‘American Horror Story’ Is Getting An O.J. Simpson Spin-Off

Everybody from “The Walking Dead” to “The Vampire Diaries” to “Breaking Bad” has recently embraced the delicate art of the spin-off, so we really shouldn’t be too surprised to learn that FX’s behemoth “American Horror Story” franchise is next on the list. But we are. Oh sweet goodness, we are.

Deadline reports that “AHS” creator Ryan Murphy’s next passion project will be another “American” anthology series, but this time around, it’s all about true crime — and it’s only fitting that the first season of “American Crime Story” will focus on one of the most famous cases in our nation’s recent history: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson.

Murphy’s take on the O.J. trial will be based on the book “The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson” by Jeffrey Toobin, and both Murphy and his “AHS” co-creator Brad Falchuk are officially set to produce.

“This is an exciting project for me, as I’ve been looking for the right property which could serve as an extension of the ‘American Horror Story’ brand I love so much,” Murphy, who will tell the story from the perspective of the lawyers, told Deadline. “The O.J. case was as tragic as it was fascinating — it seemed like everyone had a stake in the outcome. It was really the beginning of the modern tabloid age.”

Of course, every season of “ACS” will feature a different crime, and “People Vs. O.J.” will also include the Murphy staple of tackling social injustice as it explores how the LAPD’s troubled history with the city’s black community and “chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court” led to Simpson being freed.

No word yet on how Jessica Lange feels about playing O.J. Simpson. (Jokes, jokes.)
