bid adieu to Amber Holcomb on Thursday night’s show, a result that wasn’t really all that shocking considering she was firmly entrenched in the bottom two last week, and needed a ton of votes this week just to survive.
So when MTV News spoke to Holcomb backstage following her elimination, she was taking it in stride; in fact, she’d basically been preparing for it since wrapping up performances on Wednesday.
“Through the night, I was like ‘You know, whatever happens, I’m going to be proud of my position.’ Fourth? Out of thousands? That’s amazing,” she said. “Now, I’m ready to go on the ‘Idols’ tour, and just experience that and perfect that, and work on my future. Until then, I’m going to get to sleep, drive my far, see my best friend, and then sleep some more!”
And those sentiments were echoed by two of Holcomb’s biggest supporters … “Idol” judges Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, both of whom were sad to see her go, though not exactly shocked that she was sent home.
“I think based on the previous week’s voting, and how she’s often been near the bottom, has said something about the way she’s connecting, or not connecting, through the camera, for whatever reason,” Urban said. “We’ve all been supportive of her since day one, and have often been mystified by why she hasn’t connected the way that she does with us.”
Of course, as Minaj added, it doesn’t matter that Holcomb came up short in her quest for the season 12 title; she’s already a star in the making, and now, it’ll be up to her to make the most of the opportunities “Idol” has presented.
“I mean, I kind of figured [she would be voted off], which is why yesterday, I wanted to boost her spirits and let her know it doesn’t matter,” Minaj said. “I told her ‘People love you, in case you didn’t realize, and now it’s going to come down to your work ethic and your drive. You can choose to take this platform and do whatever you want to do with it, as you’ve seen from many other ‘Idols.””
