When Future‘s Honest album stream was made available online via MTV on Tuesday, there was one highly anticipated song missing.
“Benz Friendz (Whatchutola),” featuring Andre 3000, had appeared on earlier track lists but was absent from the online stream. On Thursday (April 17), however, anticipation was finally satisfied as the joint was made available on Beats Music.
“This is for n—as with Benzes, and the n—as without ’em,” Three Stacks says, before the uptempo, percussive beat comes in and he kicks his part of the hook: “I told that bitch I don’t give a f–k about a Benz, bitch/ And I don’t want no bitch who need to have that kind of friendship.”
Much of the collabo follows this theme, tackling the age-old question, Would you still be around if I wasn’t rich? Future sets it off with his opening verse: “See how she react when you’re no longer in your Beamer?/ Then she find out that the Bentley wasn’t really rented/ Can you sell a kilo? Help a n—a move a kilo?/ Oh, you want the private jet to take a flight to Rio?”
Dre returns to rap the second verse. It’s the first Andre 3000 appearance since Capital Cities’ “Farrah Fawcett Hair” in June 2013, and his first rap verse since “Sorry,” from T.I.’s Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head, in late 2012.
“Told the girl I’m ’bout to sell the Porsche,” he begins, with a flow proving he hasn’t lost a step. “She go and told these folks I’m going poor.” He then questions her reaction: “Hold up, and if I were, why would you throw a party?/ Affection is so convenient when balling.”
The two rappers premiered the song this past weekend, when OutKast brought Future out during their set at Coachella.
Though this is the first song they’ve put out together, Future and Dre have known each other for years. Future’s cousin, Rico Wade, is a part of the Organized Noize production outfit, which produced every track on ‘Kast’s 1994 debut, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, as well as much of their later work.
Future’s sophomore album, Honest, is set to hit stores on April 22.
