Fans of Nickelodeon stars Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy know that along with killer comedic timing, the two multi-hyphenates also have some awesome singing pipes.
So, as they prepare to premiere their “iCarly”/”Victorious” spinoff, “Sam & Cat,” on June 8 on Nick, they are opening up a bit about why they won’t be singing on their series. And, it has something to do with Miley Cyrus.
“We didn’t want to sing on the show. We had the option,” Grande, who has recently launched her solo music career with her single explained to MTV News. “I think we just wanted to do like a TV show because I feel like since ‘Hannah Montana,’ it’s been so cool for kid’s shows to be musically driven. I don’t think there’s a show for kids out there now that doesn’t have music.”
McCurdy added, “This show, I think, is about being funny and making people laugh.”
The show might not have singing, but it will certainly have plenty of LOL-worthy moments for fans of “iCarly” and “Victorious.” The series follows the actresses reprising their roles of sassy Sam and ditzy Cat as they embark on their own babysitting service to make some extra dough. The premiere of “Sam & Cat” airs Saturday on Nick at 8 p.m. ET.
The ladies share the series is the perfect vehicle for them since it not only celebrates their small-screen friendship but also their real-life besties status. “We were super excited. We’ve been friends for a long time, before we heard about the show idea,” McCurdy said. “So I was excited to work with such a good friend.”
Grande added, “That’s always comforting when you’re working with someone you like, genuinely, and that you know very well.”
