Now that we’ve had ample time to let #bendgate sink in, we can all admit to ourselves that the desire for an iPhone 6 has not yet dwindled. Nope—the need for an upgrade has still never been more real.

So, if the new 5.5-incher isn’t going to squeeze into the pocket of your skinny jeans without buckling, it’s time for another kind of upgrade. Fortunately, designers must have gotten the memo—or maybe there’s such a thing as trend forecasting* after all?—because iPhone-friendly fashion was all over the Spring/Summer 2015 runways this month.

Peep the trends that’ll keep your newly-copped prize safe.

1. Overalls (Yes, still)

Overalls had a moment last spring, and your favorite you-could-be-a-farmer-in-those-clothes clothes are sticking around for at least another season. This a revelation, because that middle pocket was made for phones. (Well, not literally speaking, but it might as well have been.)

2. Cargo Pockets

Yep, that’s right—cargo pockets are back. Fortunately (?), what’s bad news for the state of fashion is good news for the safety of our iPhones. And, as Rodarte proves, you can embrace the trend/keep your 6 safe without resorting to those baggy tan cargos you remember from middle school.

3. Baggy Jeans

The slouchy, saggy-chic (it’s a thing, OK?) denim on Gucci’s runway is basically a fancy person’s take on JNCO’s. So dig your old circa-8th grade drop-crotch jeans out. Those gallon-deep pockets were way before their time.

It’s not often we get two killer red carpets twice in one week, let alone TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW, but that’s what’s happening right this very minute. (Best week ever? Best week ever.) On the heels of the 2014 Video Music Awards, which we’re all frankly still recovering from both from sheer slayage and also lack of sleep, comes the Emmys.

There was very little overlap, neither in crowd nor in yardage of fabric. Only two crop tops made appearances tonight (on the Modern Family girls, those minxes). Twenty-four hours ago, most girls just completely forwent bottoms. Take a scroll through the best dressed to see what I mean.

At this point, it’s redundant to mention that Kiernan is so stylish at suuuuch a young age because girl’s been killing the red carpet game since she was 12. And that’s not being hyperbolic, that’s just the straight-up truth. But yeah, tonight’s incredible gray gown with a sequin waist unlike anything I’ve ever laid eyes on is no exception. Also: THOSE SHOES.

Leave it to Nicki Minaj to pull off five equally impressive costume changes within the span of a few hours, basically in the amount of time it takes me to talk myself into changing out of my pajamas. Though, OK, maybe “pulling off” is pushing it, since she technically didn’t succeed with one of those quick changes.

BUT! Did you see how masterfully she recovered? Of course you did. She oozed elegance despite the fact that she was one slipped-hand away from going full-on Janet Jackson. Ahead, a timeline of all of her outfits (and a question: How does she do it?!).

It’s rare to catch 5 Seconds of Summer in anything other than their usual beat-up bands tees. Not that we mind! (Trust me—I really, really do not mind.) But tonight marked their very first VMA performance AND MOONMAN!, so they pulled out all the stops. And by “stops,” I mean they topped their usual black skinny jeans and worn-in Vans with some very expensive jackets and a little extra hair pomade.

Ashton paired his $2 bandana with a $1,530 Vivienne Westwood blazer. Impressive high-lowing. Not one to be outdone, Michael wore a checkered vest by Christian Benner, and while it was ~custom~, the NYC designer’s stuff usually runs a couple thou NBD. Calum’s Glamour Kills vest and Luke’s Topman jacket were way less expensive but exactly 0% less stylish and impressive.

Not that they knew what they had on. When Rachel Antonoff, MTV.com’s red carpet correspondent, asked what the boys were wearing, they said, “Clothes.” Which is, yes, a true statement. But that was pretty much the extent of their sartorial knowledge. But in a charming way.

Fear not, they were back in their beloved band tees for their performance, PHEW! So, if you were worried that they went and got fancy on you now that they’re winners of important awards, well, stop yer worrying.

Demi Lovato could not have possibly matched the shade of the 2014 Video Music Awards red carpet more if she tried, nor could she have looked better. All deep Vs and high slits, her Lanvin dress was basically designed for this very moment.

The long-sleeve gown was suuuuper elegant, because LANVIN, and also because her clutch, lipstick, and manicure were color-coordinated with the dress ~all ladylike~. The fierce half-shave Demi has going on these days added a truly perfect edge to all the fanciness of the rest of the look.
