Katy Perry Makes History, Sells More Music Than Anyone Else, Ever

by 9 mins ago

In completely unsurprising (but still exciting) news, Katy Perry has been named the top certified digital artist ever by the RIAA. She earned the title by reaching 72 million cumulative Digital Single certifications, which is a fancy way of saying that people really, really love downloading and streaming her music.

No artist had ever passed the 70 million mark until now, so she’s kind of a big deal. Rihanna and Taylor Swift follow her on the Digital Singles chart with 52 and 51 million certifications, respectively.

Here’s How Katy Nabbed This Honor

She’s had 18 hit songs, ranking all the way back to her “I Kissed a Girl” days.

She got a 9x multi-Platinum certification for “Firework.”

She scored 7x multi-Platinums for both “California Gurls” and “E.T.”

She also got 6x multi-Platinums for “Dark Horse,” “Hot N Cold,” and “Teenage Dream.”

She won 18 Gold Digital Single Awards.

And she nabbed 16 Platinum Digital Single Awards.

And don’t forgot those 56 multi-Platinum Digital Single Awards she also won.

Her 2x multi-Platinum album Teenage Dream is also a factor.

And of course, her Platinum album One Of The Boys contributed.

Go Katy! We can’t wait to see what you do next.

When you wake up on your first day of work:

When you walk into the office for the first time:

When you meet your boss and co-workers:

When you introduce yourself:

When you give yourself a mental pep talk:

When you ask a question that sounds stupid in your head:

When you read up on the company and its industry:

When someone asks you a question you don’t know the answer to, so you make something up:

When you attempt to make small talk with your co-workers:

When you’re running late for a meeting and someone’s walking slowly in front of you:

When you rummage through your closet searching for business casual clothes:

When you stalk LinkedIn profiles:

When you accidentally hit reply-all:

When you try to speak the office lingo:

When you need an afternoon pick-me-up:

When your older co-workers give you life advice:

When you get your first paycheck:

When someone asks you what your strengths ...
