This Teacher Was Fired For Playing Beyonce For Her 6th-Graders

by 2 mins ago

Careful all you Beyonce-loving teachers out there, bringing Bey into the classroom could cost you your job. The Atlanta Public School System has terminated 6th grade teacher Nikki Turner for playing “Drunk In Love” to her class.

Although their problems with Ms. Turner go farther than her Beyonce playing, “Drunk in Love” definitely played a role, according to the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The administration explained, “This song contained profanity, vulgarity, and sexually explicit lyrics. This song is not [in] alignment with Teacher Keys Standard 9, Professionalism.” Unfortunately this was just one of dozens of complaints against the teacher, that included her failure to “demonstrate knowledge of the sixth-grade math concepts” and “properly plan lessons.”

College students, meanwhile, can take an entire course about Mr. and Mrs. Carter, like “Politicizing Beyonce,” at Rutgers or “Leaders In Music: Jay-Z” at NYU.

Beyonce will be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and performing this Sunday at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards at The Forum in LA. Don’t forget to tune in at 9pm EST.

Katy Perry’s BFF Riff Raff Remixed ‘This Is How We Do’

by 14 mins ago

If you’ve been wondering when Riff Raff and Katy Perry would finally come together for a remix of “This Is How We Do,” the time is now. Katy proudly announced her “aqua berry versace” surprise via her Twitter and Instagram on Thursday (August 21):

“MAY I PRESENT IN ALL ITS AQUABERRY VERSACNESS THE BEST REMIX OF ALL TIME EVEN BEFORE TIME EXISTED #THISISHOWWEDO FT. MY SIDEPIECE & THE ALADDIN TO MY JASMINE, RIFF RAFF! @jodyhighroller LINK IN BIO, PEEP DIS!”

Katy sports Riff Raff-style braids and a smirk in the side by side post with her co-conspirator, who will be known from now on as the Aladdin to Katy’s Jasmine.

We knew the two were pals (that MAYBE went on a date?) from a TBT a few months ago, but there was no hint of their work together on Katy’s track.

The remix is just the right combo of Katy’s bubble-gum pop and Riff Raff’s imaginative and sometimes comedic lines — check it out.

Katy has a big weekend ahead of her at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, where she’s nominated for Best Female Video and Best Collaboration for “Dark Horse,” featuring Juicy J.

Don’t forget to tune in to the MTV VMAs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Rita & Iggy’s VMA Performance? Two Hot Blondes Beating Up Dudes

by 8 mins ago

Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora will take the stage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards to perform their hit “Black Widow.” When the video dropped last week, Rita and Iggy impressed us all with their kung-fu-style fighting abilities, and it sounds like fans will be treated to the live version this Sunday.

MTV News caught up with Rita Ora at the launch of her new DKNY fragrance, where she revealed that “you can expect a lot of two blondes beating up dudes” at the VMAs.

Will the samurai training and poker domination continue? Will they try out a new fighting style — boxing, karate, fencing? It’s hard to say. But Ora promised that their performance will be all girl-empowerment and, obviously, all hot blondes.

“It’s a great opportunity for hot blondes to stick up for each other,” Rita laughed. “Me and Iggy are so excited about this song.”

We are, too, after such a bad-ass video. After missing out on a Rita performance at the Teen Choice Awards, fans are definitely ready to see Miss Ora in action, especially beating up dudes alongside Iggy Azalea.

Don’t miss their performance at the VMAs this Sunday, August 24, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Dillon Francis Came Up With Money Sucks, Friends Rule In The Shower

by 25 mins ago

For Dillon Francis, there is no better time to make huge career choices than when he is in the shower. His debut album, Money Sucks, Friends Rule, found its name from a fleeting mid-wash thought.

Friendship is important to the 26-year-old DJ/producer, and he tells MTV News that most of his “go-to-bros” are fellow producers and artists.

“Porter Robinson, I think I talk to him every week…just about everything in the world, about life, just being you know, an insane DJ that rants to him,” he said. “Teed, Calvin Harris, Diplo…And then Madeon.”

His buddies also weigh in on his music, offering advice, and sometimes, words of caution — especially from Porter Robinson and Madeon. “They tell me the truth, like don’t… play that,” Dillon laughed.

Money Sucks, Friends Rule is set to drop October 28 on Mad Decent, featuring the likes of Diplo, Lil Jon, Brandon Urie and many more.

by 2 hours ago

The Australian duo NERVO seem to have it all. Besides touring the world DJ’ing the twins are the well known for being the face of Covergirl, being part-time models, and now they are adding one more bullet point to their resumes: book publishers.

Mim and Liv started a kickstarter campaign in an effort to raise money for a new book dedicated to their fans. “We want to produce a super cool book with our fans for our fans, with all of our favourite memories and discoveries from the summer,” the explain on the kickstarted page. They are encouraging their fans to tweet and instagram their favorite memories with the hashtag #NERVOuncovered.

If the project raises £60,000 (around $102,000) every fan will receive a piece of NERVO merchandise, but £35,000 or $60,000 is the goal to move into production. The best part is, you don’t have to invest to be a part of the project, just post your own photo! Here are some of the best we’ve seen so far on instagram.

Mim and Liv are planning to release the project in December 2014.

Hodor’s Going On A ‘Game Of Thrones’-Themed DJ Tour

by 16 mins ago

We were already excited when we learned Irish actor Kristian Nairn — a.k.a. Hodor from “Game of Thrones” — is also a house DJ. And on Monday (July 14), we got even better news: He’s embarking on his own “GoT”-themed Australian tour.

Naturally, all of HODOR’s DJ sets will require “Game of Thrones fancy dress” enforced by the hand of the king– so plan accordingly.

The set promises to showcase the “deepest house from all seven kingdoms” and compares HODOR’s ability to bring the party vibes to his dedication to carrying Bran. The set will be “Game of Thrones”-themed, and he’s already teased surprise guests… the possibilities are endless.

Will guest DJs dress up as characters from the show? Will the venues serve only wine? There are many unanswered questions, but one thing is for sure: This dance party is sure to be a little more civilized and a little less dangerous than Westeros itself.

“Unlike the Red Wedding, these soirees will be remembered for seasons to come for all the right reasons,” the press release assures fans. Phew.

“Rave of Thrones” kicks off on August 28 in Sydney, and continues through September.

The 14 Dance Tracks Summer 2014 Can’t Do Without

by 36 mins ago

Summer 2014 is well underway and it’s literally and figuratively heating up. Whether you’re at a pool party in Vegas, heading to Croatia for Ultra Europe or just getting out of work early on a Friday and headed for the beach, this summer’s specialty is dance music. Check out some of our favorite tracks.

14. All the Way — Timeflies

This track is Timeflies’ signature genre-blending at its best: a smooth mash-up of electronic and pop with a little touch of country, making it perfect for summer listening.

13. Hideaway — Kiesza

If you’re in NYC, go for a nice walk listening to this one, and soon you’ll be dancing like Kiesza in the streets. Bonus points if you wear suspenders.

12. Jealous (I Ain’t With It) — Chromeo

Chromeo continue their triumphant return to the scene with “Jealous.” Sing along to this one in the car (or to an ex) to realize its full potential.

11. I Got U — Duke Dumont (featuring Jax Jones)

Even if you’re nowhere near a beach, the steel drums in this one bring a summer vibe to the dance beat, and the sample of our favorite Whitney song ever doesn’t hurt.

10. Find You — Zedd (featuring Matthew Koma and Miriam Bryant)

These days, Zedd can do no wrong, and he continues his musical dominance with this song. Miriam Bryant and Matthew Koma makes this dance track an equally great singalong.

Tiesto Thinks ‘Girls Can Be Just As Good As Guys’ In Dance Music

by 16 mins ago

Although Krewella and Icona Pop are featured on Tiesto‘s sixth studio album, A Town Called Paradise, the two groups are usually some of the only women in the genre in general. Popular female singers usually carry the fiercely melodic vocals on pop-EDM tracks, but when it comes to lady producers, they are few and far between.

Tiesto attributes this imbalance to the simple preferences of kids; boys tend to like tech-y stuff more than girls at a young age.

“I think it’s mainly a thing in the beginning, when you are 16 or 15…not that many girls are into the technical stuff of DJ’ing, or programming on their laptops,” he explained. “They like to do other stuff. I guess that the main reason.”

That may have been the case when EDM was first on the rise to mainstream popularity, but Tiesto agrees this trend can and will change. Already, producer duo NERVO is known for writing phenomenal tunes AND being world-class models, so these days, girls really can have it all.

On A Town Called Paradise, Tiesto says Icona Pop brings a feminine energy with “Let’s Go.”

“I met Icona Pop years ago and we always got along very well. I always wanted to work with them, but they were so busy with ‘I Love It,’” he said. “They make [Let's Go] good! I make a lot of manly songs and they made it more girly… it’s nice to make girly songs too.”

Why do you think there far fewer women ...

by 06/03/14

If you’re out and about in New York City Tuesday morning (June 3), you may notice a little something extra plastered on the subway platforms and nearby scaffolding. The familiar symbol isn’t a new subway line but rather clues about new duo Axwell /\ Ingrosso’s just-announced collaboration album.

The former manager of Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso’s Swedish House Mafia, Amy Thomson snapped a few pics on Instagram, announcing, “NYC. Let the games begin. Lines of a new song lie on your streets. Only sharing will make it grow. For everyone else who signed up we posted you your part :-)”
subway

Ingrosso then tweeted, “Watch your mail for post. If you didn’t sign up look on streets of NYC & together we’ll build a song.”

Fans have been tweeting and Instagramming any clues they have spotted throughout NYC, including lyrics like “all for a better day,” “go throw the key away,” “tell everyone under the sun,” and “you will always be the same,” as well as the duo’s trademark /\ symbol. At this point what these clues are leading up to is still TBD, but hopefully fans will be able to decode it on this massive scavenger hunt.

LYRICS

Ingrosso and Axwell will perform together for the first time since the announcement this weekend at Governor’s Ball in New York.
