5 Seconds Of Summer Break Our Hearts With Their VMA Performance

5 Seconds of Summer touched more than the 5SOSFam on Sunday (August 24), when they enchanted the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards with their stripped-down, sincere performance of “Amnesia.”

Ashton, Luke, Michael and Calum made their music video come to life, standing on a set made of reclaimed pallets (when we talked to them after rehearsals, they said they were from IKEA). A soft light streamed through the slats as the guys harmonized the heartbreaking lyrics, “If what we had was real, how could you be fine? … I wish that I could wake up with amnesia, and forget about the stupid, little things.”

Taylor Swift Goes Retro With Adorable Old-Timey VMA Performance

Taylor Swift went all ’30s retro at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 24), getting escorted onstage with dozens of suited men, who sprang over each other, tumbled and offered to catch her as she stood atop a giant platform.

As Tay Tay looked down from her 1989 structure, she quivered in fear, not trusting her dancers to catch her for her big finish. Instead, she took the stairs down, belted her high note after she caught her breath.

The Busby Berkeley-inspired performance included aerial shots and lots of gymnastics. Swift got into the throwback vibe by donning a fringey dress that would look equally good in an old Hollywood flick.

What does Austin Mahone have up his sleeve for the VMAs today? The singer posted a teaser Instagram on Sunday (August 24) to give us a little glimpse of what he has in store.

“I always wanted to be a drummer,” Austin wrote on the pic. As he pounds away with the UCLA drum line, I can’t help but think “damn, he’s actually really good!” I guess he’s more than just a singer/dancer/hottie/overall good guy. Add “percussionist” to his resume.

Mahone will be on the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet tonight during the pre-show, which starts at 8 p.m. Fans have been daring him different scenarios for his red carpet arrival. Could this drum line be a part of it?

Attention, Nicki Minaj! 5SOS Have Some Killer Tips For Handling A Snake

5 Seconds of Summer know a little something about handling snakes — as native Australians, they’ve grown up with them slithering around. So naturally, they gave us some snake safety tips before they play the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, which has rich snake history.

1. Don’t get bitten
Luke Hemmings is more of a precautionary guy, which explains this obvious rule. But sometimes it’s not so easy to avoid a snake, especially if you’re dancing with one onstage, like Nicki Minaj’s VMA dancer, who was bitten during rehearsals on Friday. (Fortunately she’s fine, by the way!)

2. Don’t lick the snake
This piece of advice comes from Michael Clifford, who thought it was necessary to issue that warning. Maybe he was speaking directly to Miley Cyrus?

3. The snake fears you
“The snake is more afraid of you then you are of it,” Luke reminded us, although Calum countered, “When the snake starts chasing you, that’s when the tables start to turn.”

5SOS Is Ready For Anything At The VMAs — Even Peeing Next To Eminem

When you’re going to the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, you have to be prepared for any situation.

When I spoke with 5SOS after their VMA rehearsal on Saturday (August 23), I thought I’d test them on their awards-show readiness.

First of all, they’re committed to pants-less solidarity — so, if you’re on the VMA red carpet and you suddenly realize your pants have dropped, you won’t be alone. 5 Seconds of Summer admit they’d all strip off their knickers if one of their mates got pantsed.

And while they have their wardrobe backup plan thought out, they’re completely ready for anything else VMA night throws at them — like if Beyoncé invited them to perform with her. Turns out, Michael would have no problem taking on an alter ego for her set: “I’d jump on stage and be May Z,” he said.

OK, but most importantly, what if they took a bathroom break and the only urinal available was between two legends, like, say, Pharrell and Eminem? Apparently, there are a lot of bathroom politics involved, so watch below to see how 5SOS would handle the delicate and intimate situation of peeing next to celebs.

Celebrate Your First Day Of School With 4-Year-Old Selena Gomez

Nervous for your first day of school? Hopefully you’ll have someone like Selena Gomez on your side. The “Slow Down” singer posted an adorable throwback photo of her first day of pre-K on Saturday (August 23).

“My nana just sent me my first ever news clipping,” Selena wrote on Instagram. “I was convinced I could help her through pre K. Cause you know, it’s brutal. Naps and stuff. #spreadthelove”

In 1996, Selena was just a 4-year-old trying to make other kids comfortable in her Grand Prairie preschool. Thanks, Grandma Gomez for keeping this little gem safe!

5 Seconds of Summer have their band shirts pressed, their guitars tuned and their extremely cool set constructed — they’re ready for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

Ashton, Luke, Michael and Calem rehearsed “Amnesia” at the Forum in Inglewood, California, on Saturday (August 23), a day before the big show. The guys wore their signature band tees as they worked out harmonies and perfected lighting.

Well, I guess that’s the end of Ashton Irwin as we knew him. The 5 Seconds of Summer drummer is now a shrimp, according the hilarious Vines they made after their VMA rehearsal on Saturday (August 23).

We hung out with the pop punk band in a dressing room backstage (possibly Rita Ora’s… hey, Rita) and had tons of fun talking about their performance and competing against Demi Lovato for Best Lyric Video.

The 5SOSFam is going neck-and-neck with Lovatics in the socially voted category, and the race is too close to call. But the dudes know how to get their fans voting: llama hands. Who can resist a llama hand telling you to #Vote5SOS?


When it comes to their performance tomorrow, we don’t know what to expect. But if the guys were to explain it in emojis, it would look a little bit like this.

Watch Usher Crash Logan Paul’s Meet-Up On A Motorcycle

When Logan Paul told his Vine fans to meet him on a random corner in Los Angeles, they had no idea this was going to happen:

Yeah, that’s USHER, and he rode into the meet-and-greet on a MOTORCYCLE in total Usher fashion. Cue the freaking out. And to make things more spectacular, he and Logan gave away tickets to the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. I’ve never seen so much joy in my life.

Fans showed up on the corner of Van Ness and Lemon Grove on Friday, but they started to suspect something more was up after they were pulled into a room with MTV’s Moonman. And when they heard a motor revving in the distance, Logan announced that his friend was going to come visit.

A helmeted man rode in skillfully on his motorcycle — right into the crowd — and as he peeled off his gloves and removed his helmet, fans erupted with screams, surrounding the “Good Kisser” singer with hugs and happiness. It only got better when they gave everyone blue Pepsi folders. Some of them had tickets to the VMAs, and some of them didn’t.

Usher is performing at the VMAs on Sunday, and he told us earlier that he’s going to give us the full “U R experience.”
