This fluffy cat got Ariana Grande‘s album before me? What the heck!

While the rest of the world is waiting for My Everything, out on Monday after the VMAs on Sunday, “dis kitty” got his furry lil’ paws on the compact disc. Oh well, at least I can stream four of the songs off the album until then.

And of course, I won’t be missing Ariana when she takes the stage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 24, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. She’ll be performing “Break Free” and “Bang Bang” with Nicki Minaj and Jessie J, who dropped a little bit of album news herself today.

I’m not going to lie, when I saw Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett announce their jazz standards album, Cheek to Cheek, while standing atop 30 Rock in New York City earlier this month, I was skeptical. Gaga rose to Fame Monster status with pop music, so why does this album make sense?

Now that we’re in the midst of new singles and artwork, not only have I changed my mind, but I realize that everyone else is on board too.

There’s a reason why Lady Gaga’s dive into American classics is doing so well. Here are some of them:

1. Lady Has A Voice
If you haven’t heard her live, watch her sing the national anthem at the 2013 NYC Pride parade and hear for yourself.

2. She Has The Look
She’s a chameleon when it comes to personas, so she can really mold into anything. She’s got this thick-browed, Liza Minelli-with-a-perm thing down to a tee. Check out the album cover, which appropriately frames the couple with retro tabloid newsprint like 1970s Liz and Dick.

3. She’s A New Yorker

Sure, 5 Seconds of Summer are great as a whole; you better believe I’ll be rooting for every single one of them at the 2014 VMAs, where they’re performing live and are nominated for the Artist to Watch award and Best Lyric Video. But I’m a little ashamed to say that I, like many members of the 5SOSFam, would only really want to date one of them.

OK, I’m not that ashamed. In fact, I’ll shout it from the rooftops: I LOVE CALUM HOOD!

There. I said it.

Naturally, since we’re both going to the Video Music Awards this weekend, I thought maybe we could go together. What do you say, Calum?

First thing’s first, he’s the realest

He knows how to strut. Talk about body confidence!

OK, so he’s not the most graceful. But I can keep him sturdy as we walk to our seats.

His guitar skills are unparalleled, although Luke comes pretty close. When they go onstage, I’ll be like, “That’s my date!!” SWOON!

By now, Britney Spears’ “Slave 4 U” dance at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards is known as the most exotic moment in VMA history. Brit started the night locked in a cage with a real-life tiger, and after emerging, draped a live snake over her shoulders for her sexy, jungle-themed performance.

She wore a shredded green skirt and bejeweled bra top during the iconic performance, but during rehearsals, Spears toned it down… a little.

Wearing a revealing white tank and fearlessly carrying the iconic albino snake, the singer, sans her blond extensions, rehearsed her “Slave 4 U” VMA performance at New York City’s Lincoln Center in 2001. You’re probably like “yeah, I love Britney, and I KNOW WHAT HER PERFORMANCE LOOKED LIKE.” But check out these rarely seen photos from her rehearsal:
