Miley Cyrus Releases Live Version Of ‘Lilac Wine,’ And It’s Eerrthang

by 11 mins ago

Miley Cyrus isn’t always straddling plastic penises and causing chaos on her Bangerz Tour. Sometimes, Ms. Cyrus likes to slow it down a little.

That’s why Miley covered Jeff Buckley’s “Lilac Wine” in Melbourne. On Monday, she released the live version on her SoundCloud. Prepare to be blown away.

It’s certainly no “We Can’t Stop.” While I like both sides of Miley, it’s refreshing to be lifted from her go-hard, party-all-the-time vibe to see her getting back to her roots. She previously covered this song in her Backyard Sessions in the days before Bangerz. This one seems more free from mixing, trimming and smoothing, and Miley seems to like it more, tweeting that she’s “evolving.”

Listen to both, and tell us if you think Miley has evolved in the comments.

Selena Gomez’s Really ‘Awkward’ Video Could Be Worse

by 20 mins ago

Selena Gomez is usually the queen of poise (some might call her the “most elegant princess in the world“). So when the Stars Dance singer calls something “awkward,” it probably should be, right?

On Tuesday (October 14), Gomez posted a black-and-white video to Instagram. She’s in a Texas diner, and her song “Slow Down” comes on. That’s not really weird (more of a humble brag, if you ask me), but the awkward part? Some random dude is whistling along. Hello? Selena is right there!

Sel looks a tad pensive at the end. There’s no escaping herself!

Chin up, girl. At least it hasn’t gotten the Muzak treatment yet, or, worse, played in an elevator. Or a funeral!

This Song Makes Katy Perry’s Booty Bounce

by 8 mins ago

We all have that song — the one that has our buns shaking to and fro. For some of you, it’s Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” but what song gets Katy’s bum a-swayin’? I don’t know — it’s something in French.

On Tuesday (October 14), KP revealed what makes her “booty bounce,” and it’s French singer Yelle’s “Complètement fou.”

“Complètement fou” means “really crazy” in French — if you couldn’t infer that from the outlandish video. Yelle rides on a giant corn on the cob (Miley would be proud), bathes in popcorn and steps on shattered glass — all without breaking her scarily straight face. A dance party breaks out at the end of the song, and I do declare: There’s booty bouncing!

Yelle’s currently on tour in the U.S. and Canada, if you guys want to get your butt moving. Who knows? Maybe Katy Perry will be there.

You Need To Listen To Jacquie Lee’s Broken Ones EP Stream On MTV

by 40 mins ago

Jacquie Lee is busting out on her own. And, equipped with powerful vocals and the smarts of an industry vet, she’s finding no problem doing so.

After finishing “The Voice” as a runner-up, the 17-year-old singer signed with Atlantic Records/300 Entertainment, and it wasn’t long before Lee gushed her heart into Broken Ones, her EP that’s streaming right now on MTV before its release on October 21.

“I would describe it as real, raw music,” Jacquie told MTV News when we asked her for the scoop on her EP. “It’s very honest, in my opinion. It’s totally real ‘cause that’s my biggest concern. I wanted people to listen to real music and real lyrics so that they could relate to it. Everything came from the heart.”

Broken Ones begins with the title track, a strong ballad about accepting human flaws. “Tears Fall” follows, and it’s equally as honest, allowing people to know it’s OK to feel pain. After all, that’s how you get through life’s hiccups, like breakups.

“It’s a part of life,” a wizened Jacquie told us matter-of-factly.

There’s a reason for the clarity in her music. After listening to a lot of Adele and Sam Smith (she loves Radiohead too), she realized the music she relates to most is the stuff she can sing along to and actually mean what she says.

“Music has the power to move people and do things, but in order for that to happen, it needs to be honest,” Jacquie said. “Otherwise, you’re going to ...

Taylor Swift And Jack Antonoff Are Musical Soulmates: These Pictures Prove It

by 4 mins ago

Taylor Swift’s “Out Of The Woods” details a pretty shaky relationship (I’m looking at you, Harry). But one thing about the new song is still going strong: her relationship with co-writer/producer Jack Antonoff.

Tay dropped her second 1989 single at midnight (October 14), and shortly after it went #1 on iTunes, Jack and Taylor couldn’t be more excited.

Antonoff’s girlfriend Lena Dunham posted this throwback picture, writing, “Took this the first time @taylorswift & @jackantonoff made music together in our living room. Now they are #1 on iTunes with #OutOfTheWoods. Kvelling.” I’m kvelling, too, Lena.

That’s the first time they collaborated? We’re looking at history, people! They’re really into it — see how music-nerdy Jack seems at his computer? And Taylor’s all like, “No, we need more EMOTION.”

Swift also needed her pal’s tech skillz this morning when it came to managing iTunes. Turns out, buying your own song is harder than it seems.

Jack already walked into wall while walking his dog. TSwift posted this text convo, while telling fans, “Clearly, we are very nonchalant about the whole thing. #whereismyCHILL.”

Taylor posted lyrics on her Tumblr, and Jack professed his love for working with her. Musical soulmates? Yes, indeed.

One Direction’s Acoustic Version Of ‘Steal My Girl’ Still Has Zayn’s High Note, So Don’t Worry

by 8 mins ago

One Direction almost had me for a second. When they released the acoustic version of “Steal My Girl” early Tuesday (October 14), I almost thought they released the same song. That’s because 1D’s vocals sound flawless with or without production.

The difference is in the piano, but most of the song stays the same — which means, yes, Zayn’s beautiful, angelic high note is still there. Instead of the powerful Journey-esque chords, the song is slightly stripped down, exposing more of the guys’ harmonies.

“Steal My Girl” is getting a video treatment, as Zayn, Harry, Liam, Niall and Louis continue to tease us with photos of sumo wrestlers and Danny Devito on set. I know. It’s strange, but we love them. The “Steal My Girl” video is expected out October 24. Until then, watch this teaser they put out yesterday:

What do you think of the acoustic version? Let us know in the comments below!

It’s official: Kids are running the world.

I know what you’re thinking: “Duh.” But for those of you who don’t believe me, the proof is in TIME‘s list of The 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014.

The list isn’t ranked, but young’uns like Kendall and Kylie Jenner are placed among people like Sasha and Malia Obama and Google Science Fair winners Ciara Judge, Émer Hickey and Sophie Healy-Thow.

As for the musicians who made it? Lorde is sitting pretty on throne, along with Jaden Smith and Troye Sivan. Shawn Mendes and Becky G also share the list with Austin Mahone, who they have both opened for on tour.

And the most influential list wouldn’t be a most influential list without a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Malala Yousafzai, 17, is acknowledged for her work fighting for girls’ education in Pakistan.

by 3 mins ago

Taylor Swift finally led us “Out of the Woods” with her new 1989 track, which she premiered on “Good Morning America” on Monday morning (October 13).

“I wanted to makes sure the songs sounded exactly the way the emotions felt,” she told the morning talk show, explaining the “fragility” of a former relationship, which Rolling Stone says is with Harry Styles.

“This was a relationship where I was kind of, living day to day, wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day,” Swift said. “It was a relationship where you, kind of, never feel like you’re standing on solid ground … .”

The track is available on Tuesday, but we got a preview of the pop song this morning. Through the screams of fans out on the street, you can hear the ’80s inspiration of the song, which was co-written by fun.’s Jack Antonoff.

Bethany Mota’s New Song ‘Need You Right Now’ Proves There’s Nothing She Can’t Do

by 1 min ago

Is there anything Bethany Mota can’t do? She’s dancing with the stars, she’s designing her own clothing line, and now she has a new song out with Mike Tompkins!?!

The YouTube star released “Need You Right Now” early Monday morning (October 13). Fans can buy the song on iTunes.

Listen to ‘Need You Right Now’… Right Now!

BzzPY5XCIAADv2s

Mota teamed up with producer Tompkins, who also sings on the track, for a song about love you just can’t wait for. “A million millions separate our hearts, I know/ I need you right now,” the two sing above a heavy, EDM-influenced beat. Tompkins also got his start on YouTube, continuing on to open for The Jonas Brothers and Karmin on tour.

Since creating a name for herself on YouTube, showing her now-millions of “Motavators” cute outfits ideas, hair and makeup tutorials and life updates, Bethers has hit up the MTV Movie Awards, appeared in thousands of YouTube ads and launched her own line of clothes at Aeropostale. She’s currently shaking it off on “Dancing With The Stars”, gaining the attention of Taylor Swift.

It seems like Beth can do anything. Maybe she’ll bring back dinosaurs next?

Motavators, of course, are in full support. Even Kevin Jonas is into it:

Watch A Passionate Friend Sign For Her Deaf Pal At TomorrowWorld

by 2 mins ago

Sign language, is, first, a language, but when it comes to music, ASL can also become an art. At the recent TomorrowWorld music festival in Atlanta, Keelin Lambert interpreted the lyrics to Gareth Emery’s “U” for her deaf friend Monica Frederick, dancing along.

TomorrowWorld included insanely orchestrated stages and set designs intended to make the music festival look otherworldly.

This video went viral shortly after it was posted, and you’ll soon see why. The way Keelin translates is so genuine, since she’s totally invested in the song and her friend.
