After receiving an email from Sam Smith, Lady Gaga sent a mysterious — but heartfelt — message to him last week, calling him “my baby” and complimenting his “voice of an angel.” We already know that the British singer has a way with words, but what prompted such a public display of affection?

Well, when Smith talked with the people over at 103.3 AMP Radio in Boston, he revealed just what he said.

“Someone had mentioned to me that Gaga knew of my stuff,” the singer said. “I was just completely overwhelmed by that. I wrote her an email basically just saying, ‘I remember being a 17-year-old, queuing up for your concert, dreaming up doing this, and being in the music industry.’

“And the thing I admire most about Lady Gaga was the hustle and what she did to get into the industry. And I just ran with it saying, ‘Thank you so much for inspiring me to do this because the reason why I’m here now is partly because of you.’ And she seemed touched.”

Robin Thicke admitted that everything he’s said about “Blurred Lines” in media interviews isn’t necessarily true, explaining in a court deposition obtained by The Hollywood Reporter that he lies to sell records.

“With all due respect, I was drunk and high every time I did an interview last year,” Thicke said in a deposition taken April 23. Thicke and producer Pharrell are in the middle of a legal battle with Marvin Gaye’s family over the originality of “Blurred Lines.” Thicke, Pharrell and T.I. are suing the Gaye children — who claim the song rips off their father’s “Got To Give It Up” — to ensure credit for the song goes to them.

But when it comes to credit, Thicke — who says he gets an estimated 20 percent of royalties — says the song belongs to Pharrell, who was very “generous” in allowing people to believe Thicke co-wrote the song. According to Thicke, he had nothing to do with the song’s production.

Q: Were you present during the creation of “Blurred Lines”?

Thicke: I was present. Obviously, I sang it. I had to be there.

Pete Wentz got more than he bargained for when his son, Saint Lazslo, was born on August 20. Apparently, as he waited in the delivery room with in-labor girlfriend Meagan Camper, the doctor insisted he slap on some scrubs and get in there.

“It was crazy. The doctor was like, ‘You’re going to help, you’re going to deliver this baby,’” Wentz said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Thursday (shout-out to Us for harvesting this gem). “And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m not ready.’”

And even though Wentz has experience with babies (ex-wife Ashlee Simspon gave birth to his son in 2008), the Fall Out Boy bassist wasn’t prepared for this.

“I put on the scrubs and gloves and stuff and did the delivery,” he told Seacrest. “After the head came out, I was there, you know, and all I could think was, ‘Please do not drop this baby.’”

“Newborn babies are super slippery,” he said.

Fall Out Boy recently released their new song, “Centuries,” while bandmate Patrick Stump revealed that he will become a dad too. The FOB frontman and wife Elisa Yao are expecting their first child at the end of October. Maybe Stump can get some hands-on tips from Wentz?

While the Carters were on vacation in Italy on Saturday, they did what is only acceptable for music royalty: they crashed a wedding. As paparazzi followed the couple around Portofino, they climbed straight up the steps of the church of St. Martin, and surprised an unsuspecting bride.

Sam Smith‘s “Stay With Me” isn’t for the weak. Sure, the song exudes vulnerability and heartbreak, but when it comes to singing it, you’ve got to find strength behind the words to belt it out. Scooter Braun prodigy Madison Beer took to the task of covering the hit, and it got Justin Bieber’s seal of approval.

Beer’s video shows her in the studio — with candles to fit the mood — singing into a mic and wearing headphones. And despite cheesy flirty glances and a scene where she’s texting, Madison makes the tune a little more light-hearted with a smile and cuddle time with a puppy.

Nick Jonas is going on tour! On Friday (September 5), the “Chains” singer posted dates to his Instagram. Will your town fall in his path?

Jonas just released a teaser for his new song, “Jealous,” on Thursday, and is releasing the track in full on September 8. According to Nickjonas.com/store, his self-titled album will be out November 11. Fans who pre-order it will get early access to tour tickets.

Willow Smith is whipping her hair no more — and it’s not just because she has a shorter ‘do now. The 13-year-old Smith progeny released her cover of King Krule’s “Easy Easy” on Thursday night.

Willow replaced Krule’s slack-jawed vocals with her own soulful ones over the sparse bass line, and I have to admit: it works!

Compare it to King Krule’s cool original:

The teen singer has been going in a different direction since her break-out song two years ago, sampling Radiohead in “Sugar and Spice” and joining SZA onstage in Brooklyn to sing their unreleased collaboration “Domino.”

Adam Lambert is finished touring with rock legends Queen, and he’s now ready to play the game. The “American Idol” singer alerted Glamberts on Twitter on Thursday (September 4) that he’s completing his third album, the follow-up to 2012′s Trespassing.

Lambert’s been touring with Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor since June, but had already begun work on his as-yet-untitled album before that. The singer enlisted the help of Swedish songwriter Max Martin, who wrote two songs on Lambert’s 2009 debut solo album.

In December 2013, Lambert promised the album by 2014. “If not, something is seriously wrong!”

The pressure is on.

So that “statement” Nick Cannon gave about separating from wife Mariah Carey? Apparently that wasn’t him.

In a slew of tweets on Wednesday (September 3), Cannon claimed that confirmation of the couple’s split came from “false reports.” In August, Yahoo! reportedly obtained a statement from the actor, saying “There is trouble in paradise … We have been living in separate houses for a few months.”

However, Cannon now has this to say:

“For the record I NEVER have, nor will I make a statement regarding my marriage,” he wrote on Twitter among other comments, ending his speech with “And finally, ‘Trouble in Paradise’ is the dumbest phrase I’ve ever heard! I would never say that sh!t.”
