This Guy Took Over The VMA Stage To Do A Beyonce-Style ALS Challenge

by 5 mins ago

You can give up — Chase Simonds’ ALS challenge is better than yours. And he didn’t even have to throw a bucket of water over his head.

A few days before the Video Music Awards, the MTV producer was joking around doing dance moves in front of coworkers when VMAs co-executive producer Lee Lodge walked in. After Simonds’ humiliation wore off, Lodge made an offer: if Simonds learned and performed a dance routine on the VMA stage, he’d donate $500 to charity.

Since he’d recently found out his friend Clayton’s father has ALS, he had to accept the challenge — and went all out to craft a routine fit for a queen. A friend connected him to James Alsop, a choreographer who’s worked with Beyonce, who over the next couple nights helped him perfect his dance moves.

Maybe Bey will recruit him for Sunday’s VMA performance?

Is Ariana Grande Going ‘Zero-Gravity’ For Her VMA Performance?

by 6 mins ago

Janet‘s gone through it. Katy experienced it. Britney, too.

And now, judging from her extraterrestrial (and extra weird) video for “Break Free,” Ariana Grande seems to be deep into her outer space phase.

In fact when we asked her how she’d like to take the stage to perform “Break Free” at Sunday’s VMAs, she requested there be no gravity whatsoever.

“If I were given an endless budget for my VMA performance, I would have them actually simulate zero gravity onstage for me,” She said. “We would have to come up with some sort of graceful way to turn that off without me like falling to the stage and dying. I would like to fly at some point… and I would like to finish off the number with Jane Fonda dancing with me.”

We can’t guarantee that that’ll all happen at Sunday night’s show, but hey, ya never know.

Why Is The NFL Asking Rihanna And Katy Perry For Money?

by 20 mins ago

Katy Perry Rihanna and Coldplay could be performing at one of the most-watch (and most American) shows of the year … but, apparently, it’s going to cost them.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the NFL has narrowed down its list of potential performers for the Super Bowl Halftime to those three. But they’re asking “at least some of the acts” if they would contribute some of their income to the league or make “some other type of financial contribution.”

Their reps, naturally, didn’t respond too well to the request.

Then again, considering the esteem (and eyeballs) surrounding the halftime performance — this year’s show featuring Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers smashed records with 115.3 million viewers — it’s expected for artists’ album sales and publicity to spike post-show.

But at the end of the day: Whose money is it?

Super Bowl XLIX will take place in Phoenix on February 1.

Trayvon Martin’s Mom Writes Heartbreaking Letter To Michael Brown’s Family

by 24 mins ago

The death of 18-year-old Michael Brown has been emotional for people all across the country — sparking a slew of passionate protests in his hometown of Ferguson, Missouri.

But no one feels as heartbroken by Brown’s death as his family — a fact that Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, is well aware of. Fulton wrote an emotional letter the Brown’s family on Monday (August 18), as protests in Ferguson continued.

Fulton reminded the family that, despite the heartache, “neither of their lives shall be in vain” and encouraged them, and everyone, to “fight injustice”: “We will no longer be ignored. We will bond, continue our fights for justice, and make them remember our children in an appropriate light.”

To The Brown Family,

I wish I had a word of automatic comfort but I don’t. I wish I could say that it will be alright on a certain or specific day but I can’t. I wish that all of the pain that I have endured could possibly ease some of yours but it won’t. What I can do for you is what has been done for me: pray for you then share my continuing journey as you begin yours.

I hate that you and your family must join this exclusive yet growing group of parents and relatives who have lost loved ones to senseless gun violence. Of particular concern is that so many of these gun violence cases involve children far too young. But Michael is much more than a police/gun ...

Christian Bale Welcomes Second Child With Wife Sibi

by 2 mins ago

Christian Bale is a father … again!

The “Dark Knight” actor and his wife, Sibi Bale, welcomed their second child on Monday (August 18), E! News is reporting.

The two have one other child, 9-year-old daughter Emmeline, who was born in March 2005.

While Bale is usually very private about his family life, in an interview with Esquire in 2010, he opened up about fatherhood, saying, “I love anything [my daughter] likes … I find myself tearing up at the most ridiculous things now, sitting next to my daughter while she’s watching a movie,” he said. “Me and my wife look across at each other like, ‘Oh my God! Are we really doing this? Yes we are!’”

When he isn’t caring for his newborn, Bale is busy gearing up for his role as Moses in Ridley Scott’s “Exodus: Gods and Kings.”

Obama Speaks On Ferguson Protests: ‘We Must Listen And Not Just Shout’

by 5 mins ago

As protests continue in Ferguson, Missouri, in wake of the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown by police, President Obama addressed the nation on Monday (August 18) to urge everyone to maintain “peace and calm.”

Obama announced that the Department of Justice has opened an independent, federal civil rights investigation into Brown’s death and that Attorney General Eric Holder will visit Ferguson to meet with the prosecutors and community leaders there.

Things turned violent last week when protesters clashed with police, with police using tear gas, rubber bullets and armored vehicles. Obama denounced these actions — and emphasized the importance of maintaining a distinction between military and our domestic law enforcement — saying, “There’s no excuse for excessive force by police or any action that denies people the right to protest peacefully.”

Here Are The 27 Most Haunting Pictures From Ferguson This Weekend

But while the POTUS acknowledged that the “vast majority” of the protesters have been peaceful, he said there were still a minority who have not.

In fact, early on Monday, Gov. Jay Nixon ordered the National Guard into the city after declaring a state of emergency over the weekend.

“While I understand the passions and the anger that arise over the death of Michael Brown, giving into that anger by looting or carrying guns, and even attacking the police only serves to raise tensions and stir chaos,” he said. “It undermines rather than advancing justice.”

Rixton To Perform On ‘Haunted Hathaways’… In Tears?

by 13 mins ago

Rixton are going to make a special appearance on Saturday night’s episode of Nickelodeon’s “Haunted Hathaways,” but apparently, it isn’t going to be too pretty.

But we’re assuming that’s what happens when you’re acting with a bunch of ghosts.

When MTV News caught up with the guys on the set of the show, they said that while their cameo was fun — they perform their bouncy hit “Me and My Broken Heart,” after all — it isn’t exactly a matter of free will.

In fact, they’re held for ransom to perform at a birthday party of ghosts, and things apparently get so weird that singer Jake Roche had to tap into his acting skills to fake cry — which bandmate Danny Wilkin found “hilarious.”

The episode, titled “Mostly Ghostly Girl,” airs tonight at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon. After the episode, the guys will host a comical evening of AwesomenessTV starting at 9 p.m.

Miley Cyrus Is Getting Her Own Comic Book: Get A Sneak Peek

by 41 mins ago

Miley Cyrus has a hell of a story, and now, we’re going to see it in print.

The pop superstar is getting her own comic book, as part of Bluewater Productions’ Fame series, set for release this week.

03_Adam-West-12_letters_Gary

The story starts, naturally, with her history-making performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Ya know, the one when she violated Robin Thicke for all the world to see. From there, it looks back at her upbringing in Tennessee and her journey from “Hannah Montana” to the irreverent, hotdog-riding star that she is today.

Fame: Miley Cyrus, written by Michael L. Frizell and drawn by Juan Luis Rincón, will be available in both print and digital formats.

03_Adam-West-12_letters_Gary

“I wanted to do something different with this story,” Frizell said in a press release on Thursday (August 14). “Miley is tabloid fodder, but why? Many childhood stars have remade themselves. Sadly, many female artists tend to go the ‘sex kitten’ route to prove they’re adults and worthy of a legit career. All musicians need to remake themselves to stay relevant.”

He continued: “Christina Aguilera managed the transition successfully, but I think many people were expecting Miley to go the way of Brittney Spears and totally melt down in public. Thus, I thought it would be interesting to have the adult Miley confront her childhood and perhaps coax us to understand the reasoning behind her artistic choices. It remains to be seen whether she’ll be seen as more than a ...
