We know someone in Springfield is gonna die this season. The question, until now, has been who. And now that we (kind of) know, we’re kind of okay with the name at the top of the deathwatch.
“It turned out bigger than we thought it was going to be,” show runner Al Jean said during the Fox Network’s Television Critics Association panel on Sunday about the announcement that a major character would get erased during the September 28 season premiere. “It’s not going to be this bloodbath where they all get murdered.”
He wouldn’t come right out and say it, but the clues Jean gave made it pretty obvious: the voice actor who plays the character has won and Emmy for the role and the episode is called “A Clown in the Dumps.” Let’s do the math. Voice actor Dan Castellaneta, who plays Homer Simpson, also plays Grampa Simpson, lovable drunk Barney Gumble, Itchy, Sideshow Mel, Mayor Quimby, Groundskeeper Willie and the Squeaky Voiced Teen. But none of those guys’ names are in the title of the episode.
And, not for nothin’, but Krusty (born Herschel Shmoikel Pinchas Yerucham Krustofski) is a terrible dude.
We’ll have to wait two months to find out, but the good news is whoever gets the ax will receive a great send-off starting August 21, when FXX will air all 25 seasons (552 episodes) of the show during a massive marathon that will end on September 1. Then, in October, according to Read More →
