Take That Robots: Ed Sheeran Beats Daft Punk’s Spotify Record

by 15 mins ago

It’s a great week to be Ed Sheeran. Not only is his second album, X, poised to debut at #1 on the U.S. album charts, but it also just destroyed the record for streaming in its first week on Spotify.

After the album’s release in his native England on June 23, X quickly became the most-streamed album of all-time on Spotify in the UK. In one week the album streamed 6,248,130 times, besting the previous record set by Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories (6,181,583).

Across the planet, X also posted the biggest first week of album streams in Spotify’s history with 23,792,476, edging out Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (22,780,154 streams).

Time to celebrate dude.

Nicki Minaj Spills ‘Pink Print’ Secrets In Pajama Party Twitter Q&A

by 15 mins ago

If you’re a Barb, you’re a Barb all the way. Which means that if Nicki Minaj announces at 4:22 a.m. that she’s getting ready to do a Twitter Q&A, you drop what you’re doing (or wake up) and get it together. Like, now.

So, while the hour was a bit inconvenient, when Nicki came calling early Wednesday (July 2) morning and asked for a hashtag for her pajama party session, her Barbz were there for her.

We don’t know that much about The Pink Print yet, but is it really possible that the follow-up single to smash “Pills N Potions” could be called “Hard F—ing Body?” That’s what Nicki said at the top of the chat.

It was late night, so many of Nicki’s answers were R-rated, including her response to how she would describe her collaboration on the Jessie J song “Bang Bang” in one word: “F—ING INSANE.” And whether she was feeling better after her near-death experience. The answer is yes.

A few other things we learned: Pink Print will not come out before Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V and she’ll definitely tour before next summer.

Here are six other awesome responses from the Q&A:

Supreme Court Says No To Teen Gay Conversion Therapy

by 16 mins ago

On the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that some private businesses can refuse to provide insurance coverage for birth control to their employees based on the company’s religious beliefs, the justices issued another decision that is likely to have major national repercussions.

The court turned down a request for a challenge to a California law that would prohibit “gay conversion” mental health counseling focused on trying to turn gay minors straight. According to the Los Angeles Times, the justices upheld a ruling by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that found the state clearly demonstrated that this kind of conversion therapy for minors under the age of 18 had no scientific merit.

“The Supreme Court has cement shut any possible opening to allow further psychological child abuse in California,” said attorney and California State Senator Ted Lieu. “The court’s refusal to accept the appeal of extreme ideological therapists who practice the quackery of gay conversion therapy is a victory for child welfare, science and basic humane principles.” Lieu, who introduced the 2012 law banning the controversial therapy also noted that eight other states have passed similar measures.

Proponents argued that the ban violated the free speech of the therapists and the patients seeking conversion therapy, an argument the Court found invalid. They also claimed that a patient’s sexual orientation and gender identity could be changed by the therapy because those traits are not innate.

Attention Greendale Students: ‘Community’ Classes Are Back In Session

by 28 mins ago

Jeff Winger shouldn’t hang that law shingle just yet, but Dean Pelton can officially dust off his best cheerleader costume, because “Community” is back in session. Again. Again.

The little show that could has risen from the dead once more thanks to a last-minute stay-of-execution from Yahoo. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the whole gang will be back on board for the Yahoo reboot, including show runner Dan Harmon and stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash.

'Community' cast

The ratings-challenged sitcom canceled by NBC in May will join a few other original offerings on Yahoo from executive producers Paul Feig (“Bridesmaids”) and Mike Tollin (“Smallville”). At one point it looked like McHale and the gang might be headed to Hulu, but even Harmon seemed skeptical about its ninth life.

“I’m not going to be the guy that recancels cancelled ‘Community,’” he wrote in a blog post shortly after the NBC cancellation. “But there are lots of reasons a ‘Community’ resurrection could be difficult. So be prepared for that.”

But on Monday, Harmon was all smiles. “I am very pleased that ‘Community’ will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” he said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition.”

McHale was pretty pumped too, saying, “#SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank ...

Shia LaBeouf’s Legal Troubles: A Timeline

by 35 mins ago

It’s been a rough couple of years for actor Shia LaBeouf. The intense former “Transformers” star has made more headlines lately for his off-screen antics than his on-screen abilities thanks to a series of bold public pronouncements, brushes with the law, and surprising artistic endeavors that have raised eyebrows and landed him in handcuffs on more than one occasion.

LaBeouf, 28, got his start in the ’90s in a series of TV gigs before graduating to the big screen in 2003′s “Holes” and going on to star in such films as “Disturbia,” “Transformers,” “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” “Lawless” and the two-part “Nymphomaniac.” But he began running into legal problems back in 2007, when, shortly after his 21st birthday, the star was arrested at a Chicago Walgreens after appearing intoxicated and refusing to leave the store.

In the ensuing years there have been alleged bar fights in Vancouver in 2011, and London earlier in 2014. He also seriously injured his hand in a car accident in 2008, when police claimed he was intoxicated (though the other driver was cited), acted strangely at the press junket for “Nyphomaniac,” was accused of plagiarism several times, then mounted a most unusual apology art project. Just last week he was filmed attempting to tangle with a homeless man and was handcuffed and escorted during a live performance of “Cabaret.”

If it feels like a lot to keep track of, well, it is. So ...

Kelly Osbourne Got A Tattoo Where?

by 41 mins ago

When you grew up in public on your own MTV reality show, your dad is the heavy metal prince of darkness and your mom has a daytime talk show you have lots of stories to tell. But do you have so many that you have to, literally, write them on your skull?

When you’re Kelly Osbourne, 29, apparently you do. The daughter of Ozzy and Sharon and co-host of E!’s “Fashion Police” made a serious fashion statement over the weekend when she got the word “stories” tattooed on her head.

You figure Ozzy can’t really complain, since he started getting his ink at 15. Though we’d kill to have pics of Ozzy getting that first dagger on his arm, thanks to Instagram we have all the evidence of Kelly’s latest.

It started with a new touch-up to her purple rooster mohawk.

A momentary second-guessing of her plan.

And then the deed.

No regrets.

And, of course, a fresh manicure to top it off.

Lorde Ain’t Afraid Of No Ghosts

by 3 mins ago

It doesn’t really matter whether you believe in ghosts or not. When they show up, you just kind of have to deal with it.

Just ask Lorde. Because apparently the singer has been haunted by some spectral spirits during sessions for the follow-up to her smash 2013 debut, Pure Heroine. On Monday morning (June 30), the teen queen said she’s been visited by a ghost in the machine that is trying to block her from laying down new tracks.

This would, of course, make Lorde just the latest celebrity to bust out her ghost story, but the take away here is that she’s back in the studio and we’re, hopefully, going to hear some new music soon.

Last month she told the BBC that the music she’s working on now is very different from her debut. “I think I’ve learnt so much as a songwriter, there’s going to be so much of an improvement because of that,” she said. “I’m working on stuff quite tentatively, it’s definitely still at the beginning and yeah, it’s totally different. I wrote the last album about that world which was the suburb where I grew up and populated by my friends and people who were really familiar to me. Now I’m in a different place every day and I’m with new people every day and it’s a different vibe.”

DOMA: One Year Later, What’s Changed?

by 2 mins ago

Things have changed so quickly since the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was struck down by the Supreme Court that it’s hard to believe it’s only been one year since that historic day. The decision paved the way for even more States to embrace marriage equality for LGBT Americans and as of today (June 26), nearly half of the states have passed laws legalizing some form of same-sex marriage.

After years of promises and stalled momentum, the past 365 days have been one of the most exciting and energizing periods in the movement toward marriage equality. With President Obama stating unequivocally that “same-sex couples should be able to get married” and potential 2016 presidential candidate (and former First Lady/Secretary of State) Hillary Clinton recently stating that she, too, supports gay marriage and would like to see States decide the matter, it appears the movement’s momentum is unstoppable.

DISCOVER DETAILS ON SAME-SEX UNIONS, BANS, AND COURT APPEALS OVER THE PAST DECADE IN OUR INTERACTIVE MARRIAGE EQUALITY MAP AND TIMELINE.

In fact, according to a recent poll, half of all Americans believe that same-sex couples should have a constitutional right to marry. In addition, a record-high 59 percent said they support same-sex marriage, with 34 percent opposed.

“It’s been a really successful and positive path since that decision,” said Brian Silva, executive director of Marriage Equality USA. “We’ve seen a continued rise in polls in terms of people supporting marriage, across all demos: age, race, gender, ...
