Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s New Video Is All About The ‘F’ Word

by 12 mins ago

From Beyoncé’s all-caps “FEMINIST” backdrop at the 2014 VMAs to Taylor Swift’s realization that she’s been “taking a feminist stance” for a while, the past month has been pretty exciting for those who like their feminism planted firmly in their pop culture.

And now, Joseph Gordon-Levittno stranger to public discussions of the other “F” word himself — has chimed in with a contribution of his own.

In a new YouTube video, the “Sin City” actor announces a collaborative project for his site, HitRecord, where literally anyone who wants to can upload a video of her or himself talking about their relationship with the word “feminism.”

“To me, it just means that your gender doesn’t have to define who you are, that you can be whatever you want to be, whoever you want to be, regardless of your gender,” Gordon-Levitt explains, clarifying his own stance on feminism for the purposes of the announcement.

However, he understands that as a man he can’t really tell a woman how she should or should not feel about the word. “It should be up to the woman to decide,” he says.

“It’s complicated,” JGL says of the entire discussion, before adding that’s it’s still totally one worth having. Couldn’t agree more, dude. Who else wants to jump in?

Kiesza Teams Up With Joey Bada$$, Messy Emotional Stuff Ensues

by 1 min ago

Kiesza slows things down considerably on her new song, which, despite the title, really isn’t a “Bad Thing” for her to do at all.

“Danger when you make me ‘Ooooo,’” the “Hideaway” singer moans about some lover lovah she just can’t keep her hands off of — even though she probably should — before finally concluding: “But I think that’s a good thing.”

Featured artist Joey Bada$$ comes in to commiserate with our resident ’90s-House enthusiast. “Deluded by these illusions,” “dancing with this little devil” — ummmm, at least you’ve got each other?

The haunting, Pop/R&B track comes to us from Kiesza’s upcoming debut album, Sound Of A Woman, which is expected to drop on October 21. Along with an acoustic version of breakout single “Hideaway,” the 14-track LP will also include “Losin’ My Mind,” a collaboration with Mick Jenkins that K debuted live in New York City back in July.

And that’s a good thing.

How One Man Used Twitter To Bring Gay Bashers To Justice, And Why That’s Only Half The Story

by 13 mins ago

Earlier this week, the world gained one more shred of evidence that Twitter can, in fact, be used for good when one Philadelphia-area user saw something wrong — a group of assailants who had evaded justice after attacking two gay men in his city — and set about righting it.

On Thursday (September 18), I spoke with @FanSince09, who wishes to remain anonymous, over the phone about internet vigilantism, police outreach over social media and hate crime legislation. Oh yeah, and the Phillies — but more on that in a bit.

anonymous-twitter-hate-crimeTwitter

Just in case you’re unfamiliar with the case, and the resulting media frenzy, here are the major details directly from Lieutenant John Stanford, Commanding Officer of Public Affairs & Social Media and Public Information Officer for the Philadelphia Police Department. On September 11 at approximately 10:45 p.m., two men — a gay couple — were walking down the street when an interaction occurred with a larger group of approximately eight to ten men and women. A verbal exchange took place between the couple and the group, which then escalated to a physical altercation.

The official PhillyPolice Blog noted the verbal exchange allegedly included “disparaging remarks” made by the group about the couple’s perceived sexual orientations, a fact that, if true, would imply a homophobic motive for the attack. The blog also reported that during the attack one of the victims dropped his bag — containing his cell phone, wallet and credit cards — which ...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Parks And Recreation” actress has been tapped to play one of the greatest cats who ever internet’d in “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.”

Looks like Aubrey’s already getting into the Christmas spirit, Grumpy Cat-style.

Wait, Did Iggy Azalea Dye Her Hair Brown?

by 2 mins ago

I know what this photo of Iggy Azalea looks like, Azaleans, but don’t go freaking out yet. Your beloved rap goddess has not dyed her hair from its usual platinum blonde to a more subdued shade of brown — it’s just a wig. Actually…

…It’s Wiggy Wiggs.

The “Black Widow” rapper wore said hairpiece as she made her way through Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday, September 16.

I’m guessing this is one of her go-to undercover looks? I don’t know, the ol’ Groucho Marx glasses-and-mustache combo always works for me when I wanna be incognito. But then again, I’m nobody so #womp.

Taylor Swift ‘Doesn’t Feel Very Sexy’ In These New Outtakes

by 30 mins ago

“I am always trying so hard,” Taylor Swift admits in the latest set of outtakes released from her “Shake It Off” video, and you can’t really argue with the results. Didn’t Dolly Parton once say something about how “it costs a lot of money to look this cheap”? I feel like a similar rule must apply to goofily DGAF, awesomely bad dancing.

As the new clip reveals, neither foggy visors nor aggressively tight wigs could get in the way of Taylor’s dance party with the professional animators. “I had so much fun with it because dancers are such passionate people about what they do, and they’re so proud to be in a music video representing their style of dance — and I’m so proud to awkwardly ruin it with my dancing.”

Brava, Ms. Swift. Watch the video below.

Is This Whitney Houston’s Greatest Live Performance Of All?

by 30 mins ago

Because oh my god obviously it makes so much sense, there’s a new CD/DVD compilation of Whitney Houston’s most beloved live performances dropping later this year.

Here’s the album cover for Live: Her Greatest Performances.

whitney houstonRCA

Out November 10, Live: Her Greatest Performances will be the late singer’s first-ever live LP, the AP reports. The posthumous release, her second after 2012′s I Will Always Love You: The Best Of Whitney Houston, will feature 16 iconic live recordings spanning Houston’s entire career, from “The Merv Griffin Show” in 1983 to “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2009 — with plenty of stops at 1991′s “Welcome Home Heroes” concert special along the way.

SO READY FOR THIS.

Personally, I’ve always had the softest of soft spots for her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV in 1991. Yes, I know that it’s not a Whitney original. Yes, I know that blind patriotism is dumb. Yes, I know that the NFL is seriously effed sometimes. But please lower your pitchforks, and let me explain.

Whitney’s national anthem performance is track #7 BTW.

The power of Houston’s vocals mixed the effortless ease with which she lays waste to Tampa Stadium is nothing short of inspiring. (And I haven’t even begun to extoll the virtues of that early-’90s windbreaker/headband combo…) Quite simply, it’s the gold standard against which all other ...

Rihanna Has Two Words For CBS Pulling Her Song: ‘F-ck You!’

by 12 mins ago

Let it be known that Rihanna is not pleased with CBS.

The “Diamonds” singer took to Twitter on Tuesday (September 16) to call out the network for “penalizing” her on account of suspended NFL player Ray Rice’s domestic assault charges. The league and the network cut the season-opening Thursday Night Football song “Run This Town,” citing the Rice incident.

“CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, F-ck you! Y’all are sad for penalizing me for this.” She added: “The audacity…”

A video of the former Baltimore Raven beating his wife was leaked by TMZ last week, resulting in his indefinite suspension by the NFL. The planned Thursday Night Football Theme, a Jay Z trackfeaturing Rihanna and Kanye West, was subsequently omitted from the September 11 game.

While CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus vaguely explained to Sports Illustrated that the decision was a matter of “time” and “tone,” many in the media felt that CBS and the NFL were, in essence, punishing Rihanna for being a victim of domestic violence herself at the hands of her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, in 2009.

“She was not the perpetrator, but rather the victim,” Scott Mendelson wrote for Forbes, “yet she is being (indirectly?) punished due to her association with domestic violence as opposed to being thought of as ...
