The 33 Most Iconic Pop Moments Of Summer 2014

by 6 mins ago

I know we throw the word “iconic” around a lot in these parts, but summer 2014 gave us some truly i-con-ic moments in pop music history. Let’s unpack the 33 greatest things the season blessed us with.

1.) Officially Confirmed Song Of The Summer
There’s no denying it — Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX spent seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 this past season, and it held the #1 spot on Billboard’s Songs Of The Summer chart every single week.

2.) Song That Should’ve Been Song Of The Summer
Tinashe’s “2 On” featuring Schoolboy Q! Source: Everything I can’t remember from the Fourth of July party on my roof.

3.) Song That Was Literally A Song Of The Summer
MAGIC!’s “Rude” knocked “Fancy” out of the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and it is a song that you probably heard a lot this summer.

4.) Best Live Performance
Beyoncé’s 16-minute medley medleyat the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards was literally everything. Bow down — the wind of a thousand onstage fans compel you.

5.) Song You Were Singing In The Shower
Becky G’s “Shower.” Otherwise, you’re doing showers wrong.

6.) Best Way To ~*Express*~ Yourself
Pump up Kiesza’s “Hideaway,” and liiiiiiiiiiiive.

5SOS’ At The iTunes Festival: The 7 Most Epic Moments

by 14 mins ago

In case you missed the livestream on Thursday (September 4), 5 Seconds Of Summer played what’s probably their biggest and longest set ever on day four of the iTunes Festival 2014.

The 14-song set at the Roundhouse in London included all the hits (“She Looks So Perfect,” “Don’t Stop,” “Amnesia”) and then some, but just going down the setlist doesn’t even begin to capture just how weirdly awesome, awesomely weird and all-around 5SOS-ian the performance was.

From the dyed-red bullets of sweat and banana costumes to the onstage rapport that just makes you wanna scream “NOW KISS,” here are the seven most face-punchingly epic things that went down at the concert.

1.) Luke’s “You want I’ll take you there” moment with Luke during “Don’t Stop.”

2.) Michael told the crowd, “I color-matched my hair to my shirt” — five seconds before going onstage I’m guessing.

3.) The band asked Calum to say something profound. His response: “This… No, no. How’s everybody doing tonight? You’re all a bunch of lads, that’s what you are.”

4.) Michael shook his fist at Ed Sheeran for taking away their #1 debut in the U.K.

Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals Her Mysterious Connection With Vanilla Ice

by 9 mins ago

All right, stop — collaborate and listen. Because Gwyneth Paltrow dropped some majorly interesting tidbits about her film career past on last night’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” As she revealed to the host, the “Iron Man 3″ star was actually offered the female lead in Vanilla Ice’s Golden Raspberry Award-winning 1991 classic, “Cool As Ice.”

Unfortunately for us all, Gwyneth’s father, the late director and producer Bruce Paltrow, convinced her not to accept what would have been one of her very first roles. (“No daughter of mine shall wax a chump like a candle,” he probably didn’t say.) Then again, that decision was most likely for the best — America probably wasn’t ready for the Notorious G.O.O.P. just yet.

Lady Gaga Reunites With Her Dog, Puppy Cuddles Ensue

by 24 mins ago

The wait is over — Lady Gaga and her French bulldog, Asia, are finally back together again.

The pup surprised the “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” singer when she landed at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Monday, September 1. For those keeping track at home, it’s been nearly a month since Gaga and her pet have seen each other IRL — Asia was barred from accompanying her owner to all of the Japanese, South Korean and Australian artRave tour stops due to alleged “quarantine rules.” They just were not ready for THAT FAAAAAAAAAAACE, I guess.

Never fear, though. Gulf News has confirmed that Asia will join Gaga on the road once again when her tour picks back up on September 10 in Dubai. You may officially resume sleeping at night.

Getting major “Christian The Lion” flashbacks from this mother-daughter reunion.

Later at home, Asia was “mad at mommy for leaving.”

This pile of “Japanese Toys” seems to have eased the tension.

Gaga also had a reunion with boyfriend Taylor Kinney — or at least his disembodied hand.

Oh My God, 5SOS, That’s Not How You Breakfast

by 25 mins ago

I don’t wanna say anything I can’t take back, but 5 Seconds Of Summer might actually be the worst at breakfast. Like, if you’re looking for some professionals to help break your fast, don’t call these guys. Lord only knows how they’d desecrate brunch.

In London for the iTunes Festival — they take the stage on Thursday, September 4, FYI — the “Amnesia” singers couldn’t have effed up the most important meal of the day more if they’d tried. Who sent you, 5SOS? Lunch? Dinner?!

First, 5SOS were unable to hit up a Starbucks because it, um, wasn’t open yet.

Ashton finally got his hands on a banana and a latte, then — NO OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

We were rooting for you. WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU.

Literally no words at this “breakfast” video. It’s like watching an alien presentation on human behaviors.

All of you, see me after class.

9 Forgotten Features From Beyonce, Katy, Gaga And More

by 1 min ago

Once a pop star is firmly established, we know her persona inside and out. Rihanna is DGAF personified, Katy Perry is the queen of pinup kitsch, Lady Gaga is our resident reverse Warholian artist-in-residence and Beyoncé — hallowed be her name — reigns benevolently from above like the ***flawless goddess that she is.

But, what about before each of these pop ladies had gotten the public’s attention? By flipping back to the earliest days of their respective catalogs, we can see the very beginnings of their now-ubiquitous identities taking root. This is especially true when you listen to their earlier features, where they, as young artists just starting out, might have had even less say over their overall look, sound and feel.

So without further ado, let’s check out nine of these “Forgotten Features.” It will be fun, weird and kinda mind-blowing in places, but most of all it’s not work. Happy Labor Day!

1.) Wale’s “Chillin” featuring Lady Gaga

This video from 2009 shows Gaga at her earliest: enigmatic, mysterious, perhaps more wig than woman. She’s also affecting some kind of M.I.A. circa “Paper Planes” attitude — all cool, calm and collected. It’s a far cry from the outspoken “Applause” singer we know today.

2.) 3OH!3′s “Starstrukk” featuring Katy Perry

Back before we heard Katy “Roar,” she was just One Of The Boys — in this case Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte of 3OH!3. (They were kind of ...

Sia Wrote Maroon 5 And Gwen Stefani One Intense Song: Listen

by 25 mins ago

The deluxe, 14-track version of Maroon 5′s fifth studio album, V, is streaming right now on iTunes Radio, which means that fans of the band are finally able to listen to frontman Adam Levine’s much buzzed-about collaboration with his fellow “Voice” judge, Gwen Stefani.

The understated piano ballad was co-penned by Sia — and it shows. The sweeping sonic landscapes and the raw, elongated vowel dips have her signature all over them. Levine, Benny Blanco, Darkchild and Andre Lindal all played a hand in the song’s creation, too, just in case you need more reasons to check it out.

Other standouts on the LP include lead single “Maps”, “It Was Always You,” with verses that build to near George Michael “Freedom ’90″ levels, and a cover of Marcy Playground’s “Sex And Candy.” There’s also “Sugar,” a slinky bit of Bee Gees electronica — not unlike past hit “Makes Me Wonder” — that makes for a pretty effective comedown from the plethora of ’70s-throwback we’ve been given this past year.
