Princesses In Prison: ‘Orange Is the New Black’ Gets Sentenced To Disney

by 2 mins ago

Princess Elsa is finally paying for her misdeeds.

The “Frozen” princess, alongside several other Disney princesses, is officially behind bars. Artist Maria Bayley is the mad genius responsible for this series of “Orange is the New Black” inspired redesigns of the Disney princesses, reimagining the likes of Elsa, Snow White, Mulan and others as inmates of Litchfield Correctional Facility. Even Prince Eric is getting in on the action, albeit without a “Pornstache.”

Check it out:

The princesses, from top left to bottom right, are: Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog,” Mulan, Snow White, Rapunzel from “Tangled,” Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” Belle from “Beauty and the Beast,” Prince Eric from “The Little Mermaid,” Pocahontas, Ursula from “The Little Mermaid,” and Elsa from “Frozen.”

“I could not think of anyone further from the possibility of being locked in jail than this lot of under aged princesses,” Bayley writes of the redesign.

These Disney princesses are the product of a DesignCrowd.com Photoshop contest, tasking users with reimagining famous females as the “Orange is the New Black” inmates. Check out other submissions here.

What Does Superman Have Against Underpants?

by 15 mins ago

Clark! You forgot your underpants! Again!

In “Man of Steel,” the newly designed Superman caused a bit of a stir when he arrived without red briefs hugging his blue uniform. It was a design choice that fell in line with Superman’s comic book costume seen in the recently rebooted “New 52″ DC Universe; but even then, Kal-El’s paneled page counterpart at least had a red belt to break up the big blue onesie:

For all of the faults you can lay at Zack Snyder‘s feet, design isn’t one of them. Every one of his films — “Dawn of the Dead,” “300,” “Watchmen,” “Sucker Punch” — features flawless costumes and exquisite eye-candy. Even “Man of Steel,” which many took to task for how Superman handled the chaotic climax in Metropolis — even then, the chaos looked great.

But Superman himself? A bit of a bummer in that mopey blue suit. The red cape is not enough to distinguish the suit from that monotonous blue. Even if the red underpants are dated and out of the question, a belt of some kind would go a long way. But it looks like we’re not getting that in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” judging by the first look at the “new” suit:

We put “new” in quotation marks, because there’s really very little new about it, aside from the pouring rain of ...

Before The Dawn: Watch Three ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Prequel Movies

by 45 mins ago

In little more than a week, one of the summer’s most anticipated blockbusters arrives: “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” directed by Matt Reeves and starring Andy Serkis as Caesar, the super-smart ape who leads a community of his peers in a mostly human-free world.

“Dawn” takes place ten years after “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which ended with a massive viral outbreak that rendered humanity all but extinct. But what exactly happened between “Rise” and “Dawn”?

Three new short films released by Fox and Vice answer that question. The series is called “Before the Dawn,” and it chronicles the ten years between the end of “Rise” and the beginning of the new “Planet of the Apes” film, focusing on the intimate side of global devastation.

The first film, called “Spread of Simian Flu,” takes place during the first year of the viral outbreak. It centers on a father and daughter who do their best to survive the beginning of a post-human world, and to survive the impending loss of their wife/mother.

In “Struggling to Survive,” a teenage orphan scrapes on by in year five of the apocalypse, trading items she’s stolen from dead people’s abandoned houses in order to survive.

The final film takes place ten years after the plague. It’s called “Story of the Gun,” and it’s easily the most action-packed and the longest of the three shorts, clocking in at nearly 15 minutes.

If you weren’t already amped up about “Apes,” these “Before the Dawn” videos should absolutely ...

‘Walking Dead’: Watch This ‘Disturbing’ First Look At Season Five

by 13 mins ago

They’re baaaack! Back to work, at least.

The cast and crew of “The Walking Dead” are knee-deep in the guts and gore that AMC viewers have come to know and love, with season five well underway and on track for an October premiere. But what can we expect when Rick Grimes and his fellow companions return to our television sets in the fall? Based on the first sneak peek for the new season, fans can count on even more blood and brains than ever before.

“This episode is so disturbing,” star Lauren Cohan says, “that some of the stuff we shot yesterday, I don’t know if it’ll make it to TV.”

Cohan’s co-stars share the sentiment, with Andrew Lincoln labeling the season five premiere as “the most ambitious first episode we’ve ever attempted.”

“It moves like no other premiere we shot before,” he says. “If this is what we have to go by for the season, then I think this will be the best season yet.”

Sure, that’s what they always say. In fairness, “Walking Dead” is in a unique position going into season five. While Rick and friends are always in danger, season five marks the first year where the band of survivors begins in captivity. At the end of season four, Rick’s group wound up imprisoned at Terminus, the so-called sanctuary that seems like a cannibal compound in reality.

The final moments of season four showed Rick and his allies trapped inside of a train car. But as the sneak peek ...

Return Of The King: Walter White Might Return For ‘Better Call Saul’

by 11 mins ago

It’s done when he says it’s done — and he’s not done yet.

Despite the conclusive ending of “Breaking Bad,” cancer-stricken meth kingpin Walter “Heisenberg” White hasn’t finished causing chaos quite yet. At least, the possibility of his return to television is greater now than ever before, now that creators of “Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul” have confirmed that their show features a “flexible” timeline.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, “Saul” co-creator and executive producer Peter Gould revealed that the show features “scenes that move back and forth over several decades, including the era where Walter White cooked and sold crystal meth.”

“One of the great things about having a time line which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before ‘Breaking Bad,’ during ‘Breaking Bad,’ and after ‘Breaking Bad,’” said Gould. “That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on ‘Breaking Bad.’”

One such character is Mike Ehrmantraut, the ice-cold hit man played by Jonathan Banks, already confirmed for a series regular role on “Better Call Saul.” But the fact that “Saul” takes place concurrently with “Breaking Bad,” at least in part, makes it clear that Heisenberg could reemerge at some point down the line — something that seems likely to happen, given that the show has already been ordered for two full seasons.

“Better Call Saul” premieres next year.

Why Is Kevin Smith Crying On The ‘Star Wars’ Set?

by 43 mins ago

“Some … celestial event. No words. No words to describe it. Poetry. They should have sent a poet. So beautiful. So beautiful. I had no idea.”

These are the sobbing words of Jodie Foster in “Contact,” when she witnesses an extraterrestrial miracle for the very first time. But they may as well be the words of Kevin Smith, who just witnessed an extraterrestrial miracle of his own.

The “Clerks” creator visited the set of “Star Wars: Episode VII” this week, the first film in Disney and Lucasfilm’s planned revival of the “Star Wars” sequel. And while Smith is sworn to secrecy regarding what he saw on the “Episode VII” set, his selfie is worth a thousand words:

Holy Sith, indeed. What could he have seen to illicit such an extreme reaction? With “Star Wars” still close to two years away from release, we aren’t likely to know anytime soon. For now, we can just imagine that Smith’s “Star Wars” visit went a little something like this:

“Star Wars: Episode VII” hits theaters on December 18, 2015.

Rumor Patrol: Is ‘Avengers’ Building Up To ‘Planet Hulk’ After All?

by 1 min ago

WARNING: Possible spoilers for the Marvel Cinematic Universe are ahead.

Mark Ruffalo knows a whole heaping lot about Bruce Banner, comic book history included. Speaking with MTV News, the “Avengers” star basically ran down the entire plot line of “Planet Hulk” verbatim, without any cue cards or off-camera refreshing — all of it off the top of his head. And then he flat-out denied that “Planet Hulk” would be the Jade Giant’s next big-screen destination following the upcoming “Avengers” sequel.

But was Ruffalo just playing coy? Is there actually something to the rumors that Banner’s next film following “Avengers: Age of Ultron” takes place in space?

That’s the rumor according to HitFix.com’s Drew McWeeny, who seems to have reliable intel when it comes to the “Avengers” sequel. In fact, he posits that Banner is headed for a meeting with another Marvel superhero team — one that tees things up for a greater Marvel showdown in the third “Avengers” film.

Read on, but final warning: possible spoilers ahead.

According to the rumor, by the end of “Age of Ultron,” Hulk winds up aboard one of the team’s quinjets, headed off the planet “with no way to immediately turn things around. He’s going to have to ride out the trip. It’s pre-programmed and he can’t stop it.”

“Here’s where I’d wager his spaceship is headed: wherever the Guardians of the Galaxy are located,” reports McWeeny. “If I was a betting man, I’d say there will be no Hulk solo film as part ...

Go Bananas: The First ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Reviews Are In

by 22 mins ago

The monkeys are running the zoo — and by zoo, we mean the “Planet of the Apes” franchise, and by monkeys, we really do mean monkeys.

Even though it’s still a couple weeks away from release, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” reviews are starting to trickle in, thanks to early critic screenings. So far, the reactions are overwhelmingly positive, with some critics calling it an instant classic in the science fiction genre, even if one review is considerably colder. Still, even the harshest “Dawn” review finds praise for Andy Serkis‘ groundbreaking work as Caesar, the super-smart simian at the heart of the series.

What else are people saying about the latest installment in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise? Read on and find out:

1. Rise Of The ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Expectations

“Walking in to ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes,’ I hoped Matt Reeves had made a solid and respectful follow-up, one that expanded on ‘Rise’ in interesting ways. That’s all I wanted from it. What I got instead is a film that digs deep, that challenges not only the notion of what a studio blockbuster looks like but also how sequels are supposed to work in a commercial world, a movie about real ideas with a spectacular sense of character and mood. ‘Dawn’ is not just a good genre movie or a good summer movie. It’s a great science-fiction film, full-stop, and one of the year’s very best movies so ...

Out Of This World: Mark Ruffalo Weighs In On ‘Planet Hulk’

by 31 mins ago

With Reporting by Josh Horowitz

Despite Bruce Banner’s claims to the contrary, everyone likes Hulk when he’s angry. The Jade Giant’s breakout role in “Marvel’s The Avengers” more than proves how much the world adores Earth’s mightiest and most gamma-radiated hero. But is the world ready for Hulk to strike out on his own?

For his part, actor Mark Ruffalo is very much game for a solo “Hulk” movie, once Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” wraps up. It would be the third attempt to build a film around Bruce Banner all on his lonesome; thus far, he’s a character that’s worked best when surrounded by other massive personalities like Iron Man and Captain America.

But Ruffalo says he and Marvel are both getting ready to give the world another “Hulk” movie — even if they’re not ready to give the Hulk his own world.

Speaking with MTV News for his new film “Begin Again,” Ruffalo shot down rumors that he’s gearing up to star in “Planet Hulk,” an adaptation of a popular storyline where the Green Goliath winds up in space, courtesy of the Avengers.

“They launch Bruce Banner into space to try to get rid of him and the Hulk. He ends up freaking out, smashing up the spaceship, and it goes off course and ends up on this planet of gladiator creatures,” Ruffalo summarized. “He falls in love, has a Hulk baby … and then the Avengers nuke the planet.”

That’s the long and short of it, ...

17 Transformers We Need In The ‘Age Of Extinction’ Sequel

by 16 mins ago

After four feature-length films, the “Transformers” series has offered up more Autobots and Decepticons than you can possibly keep track of. But that doesn’t mean the franchise is running out of ‘bots to bring into the mix. With more than three decades of “Transformers” material to mine, there are still countless Autobots, Decepticons, Maximals, Predacons and more to introduce.

With that in mind, here are 17 of the Transformers we want to see in the franchise’s future:

1. Arcee

She was in “Revenge of the Fallen,” but it doesn’t count. We can forget that. The most prominent female Transformer by miles and miles was not given her due. Give her another shot, Bay.

2. Astrotrain

He’s a massive space train that transports Decepticons all over the galaxy. What more do you need to know?

3. Blackarachnia

From the “Beast Wars” continuity, Blackarachnia is a former Predacon who eventually aligns with the Maximals. She’s deadly, takes no nonsense, and brings a killer instinct that the movie Autobots could really use.

4. Blaster

The Autobots’ answer to Soundwave. One of Prime’s best bros.

5. Cyclonus

The warrior.

6. Dinobot

Grimlock and the other Dinobots had zero personality in “Age of Extinction,” so let’s try this again: Introduce the “Beast Wars” era Dinobot into the mix, and have him kick all of the Decepticon/Predacon tail — or die trying.

7. Hot Rod

But no Rodimus Prime, please. And make sure he blows up, Bay.

8. Kup

One of few Autobots who can buy ...
