Three Shows That Prove That You Shouldn’t Go To (TV) College

by 06/11/14

Here’s one thing we hope is an absolute truth from “Pretty Little Liars” showrunner Marlene King’s reddit AMA yesterday: We won’t have to see the liars lie through college.

“There will be a time jump,” she said. “It may be on the TV show, or the movies we are starting to talk about, but there will be a time jump. We will ‘jump’ college.”

While normally we’d urge you to stay in school, for our own selfish reasons, we’re jumping for joy that we won’t have to DVR the girls’ lives as co-eds. These three recent past examples have shown us that when it comes to soapy shows, it’s best to bypass the books and jump ahead to the good part. After all, high school is nothing compared to how juicy adulthood can be.

“The O.C.”
The ultimate teen soap opera graduated (and, in one case, killed off, oops) its main cast at the end of Season 3, and its characters went their separate ways for the fourth and final season of the show. And guess what? It wasn’t awesome. Summer went to Brown, then came back, Taylor went to France, except she didn’t, and, ugh, everything was just all wrong.

“Glee”
No, but really: Is anyone going to say that the weird limbo of following the college kids to NYADA in New York while still trying to stay connected with the still-in-school McKinley kids worked? Anyone? That’s why we never heard from that girl with the lunch lady mom again, and we assume that now, ...

‘Insurgent’ Gets Its Uriah — And A Franchise Title?

by 06/10/14

Attention, Initiates! It’s time to meet your Uriah.

Lionsgate announced this afternoon via Twitter that Keiynan Lonsdale, an Australian actor best known for his work in the Aussie TV series “Dance Academy,” will join the cast of “Insurgent,” now shooting in Atlanta, as Uriah.

The 22-year-old will play a major role in the sequel to “Divergent,” a fellow Dauntless member who works alongside Four (Theo James) and Tris (Shailene Woodley) after the faction system begins to crumble.

Lonsdale is active on both Twitter and Instagram, but as of publication hadn’t yet made a comment on his casting announcement. So, hilariously, fans have been leaving their opinions about him on his most recent Instagram, an artful rendering of his new Timberland boots.

In another interesting tidbit, the film series also appears to have gotten an umbrella franchise name: “The Divergent Series.” Much like “Twilight” became “The Twilight Saga” from its sequel onward, it looks as if we’ll be lining up to see “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” on March 20, 2015.

Of Course This Is What Shailene Woodley Uses Instead Of A Fork

by 06/10/14

Flower moon child/”The Fault In Our Stars” star Shailene Woodley is at it again with a cover story in the July issue of Vanity Fair, and this time, she’s supplied us with a fresh new trick to be both impressed and appalled by.

In a video teasing the full interview, which hits the web June 12, she’s asked about a secret talent. And guys! It doesn’t totally seem like one that you want her to demonstrate. Not if you’re hungry, at least.

“I eat almost always using my hands, not a fork,” she says. Which, cool, we hope you wash your hands a lot, but whatever. It’s how she follows it up, and what’s implied, that puts us off our lunch a little: “And I can pick lots of things up with my feet.”

Paired with our knowledge that Lady Woodley prefers to spend her days barefoot or in Vibram fivefinger toe shoe things, this paints a picture we’d rather not pay the price of admission to see.

Just imagine: Hi, Shailene. That brown rice quinoa gluten free vegan nutritional yeast mac and cheese with seaweed on top looks so great. I’m so glad you brought that for lunch. Awesome. Why are you taking off your shoes? It’s OK, I don’t care if my floors get a little dusty. Wait — your leg — why are you bringing it on top of the table? [Thump.] Oh, are you — you’re — oh. Oh. You’re going to eat that with your toes. ...

Not only did she get to go to Kimye’s wedding, where her husband John Legend reportedly performed, not only does she have adorable puppies to play with all the time, but she also went to Medieval Times last night with a bunch of models and had a baller time.

Oh, and then she went to Outback Steakhouse afterward for a Bloomin’ Onion. She invited a knight, but he didn’t come.

And she still gets to be in possession of that booty.

Here’s Teigen with pals Bonnie Cook and Brittany Riddle and her mom, Vilailuck.

Amy Poehler And Paul Rudd Get A Little Gross On Our ‘They Came Together’ Set Visit

by 06/09/14

With reporting by Josh Horowitz.

If you have a good head on your shoulders and heart that’s true, then we know that you’re going to love hearing Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd make repeated sexual innuendos while on the set of their new rom-com sendup, “They Came Together.”

Which, if you’ll notice, is an innuendo itself. They can’t even name a movie without a wink at the audience, folks.

MTV News visited the set of the film to yuk it up with Rudd and Poehler ahead of the film’s June 27 release date to see what we could find out about the movie, which is directed by “Wet Hot American Summer” head David Wain.

“It’s kind of subversive and a little bit meta at times,” Rudd explained of the movie, which stars the duo as a couple falling in love — and falling into all the typical tropes of a romantic comedy.

“It’s pretty dumb,” Poehler added.

“Yeah, it’s ridiculous,” Rudd said. “It’s pretty stupid.”

To learn more about “They Came Together,” and to witness Rudd and Poehler’s chemistry and comedy in action, check out the video above.

Watch Neil Patrick Harris’ Barney Stinson React To NPH’s All-Out Tony Performance

by 06/09/14

Listen, sometimes it can be really, really, super hard to separate an actor from the persona that they play on, say, a TV show or movie franchise. For many watching the 68th Annual Tony Awards last night (June 8), it must have been a bit of a departure to see Neil Patrick Harris, erstwhile star of nine seasons of CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother,” don sky-high platforms, a blonde wig and a gallon or so of body glitter to perform a number from Broadway’s “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”

Harris totally owns the role of the glam-rock songwriter left with “an angry inch” after a botched gender reassignment surgery in communist Berlin, which is why he won the Tony for Best Actor In A Musical for his work later in the night. However, nine seasons of a show really make an impression on a person, so we couldn’t help but wonder what the legen-waitforit-dary Barney Stinson would think of Harris’ all-out performance as Hedwig.

When He Climbed Onto Orlando Bloom’s Face And Said He Was “Blooming”

When He Licked Samuel L. Jackson’s Spectacles

When He Bounced On Sting’s Knee

When He Swooned Upon Kevin Bacon

When He Planted A Wet One On His Adoring Husband

T.I., LL Cool J And Hugh Jackman Rapped To ‘Music Man’ And Now Everything Is Different

by 06/09/14

File this one under both “This Happened” and “Pardon Me?”: Last night at the Tony Awards, L.L. Cool J, T.I. and Wolverine Hugh Jackman performed an amped-up rap version of “Rock Island” from the classic Broadway musical “The Music Man.”

Yeah, 76 trombones “Music Man.” That “Music Man.”

It’s like those Choose Your Own Adventure books of yesteryear — do you go down the path of pure delight, or is there a horror story unfolding in front of you when you choose to hit play on the video above. (Not watching the video is not an option, obviously.)

And when your first viewing is over, do you choose to watch again (and and again and again)? Or do you try and move on with your life, aware in your heart that something within you has irreversibly changed after witnessing the events above. There are two chapters to your life now: Before “Music Man” Rap and After “Music Man” Rap.

Welcome to the other side, friend. You’ll learn to love it here. What happens next is up to you.

Shailene Woodley And Ansel Elgort Have Out-Cuted Themselves With This One

by 06/08/14

We’re just about cried out after this weekend’s opening of teen cancer romance (cancermance?) “The Fault In Our Stars,” but ever-adorable stars Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley have given us yet another reason to smile while we wait in line to re-up our tissue stock.

As fans of the movie and the John Green novel of the same name it’s adapted from know, star-crossed lovers Hazel (Woodley) and Gus (Elgort) have an ongoing exchange involving the word “okay” — it’s their shorthand for being there for each other, checking in and reassuring one another.

Y’all, real-life cuties Elgort and Woodley are hitting us right in the feelings gland by demonstrating their beffie-dom on Twitter.

Friday evening, when most fans were still on their first wave of “Fault”-related tears, Elgort threw a bone to fans on Twitter:

As if that wasn’t enough to get us sniffling into our hankies once more, Shailene just had to join in on the fun:

GUH. You GUYS.

“The Fault In Our Stars” is in theaters now.

9 Movie Musical Moments That Have Us Singing In Our Showers

by 06/08/14

Tonight (June 8) marks the presentation of the 68th annual Tony Awards, Broadway’s biggest night. Performers from the season’s top shows will tap and jazz-hand their way across the stage, belting it out for all to hear. And, honestly, it makes us want to sing it out ourselves.

In honor of tonight’s festivities, we’ve pulled together our favorite movie musical moments, the ones that have us obnoxiously wailing it out in the shower. After all, that bottle of shampoo makes for a super-receptive audience. (Quit booing, roommates!) Click the song title for a clip of the sequence, and get ready for that (shower) curtain call.

“Chicago,” “Cell Block Tango

After all, he did have it comin’. Be sure to keep that balance — you’ll be so embarrassed if you have to tell your friends you got hurt stomping it out to the song in the shower. Bathmats are key!

“The Muppet Christmas Carol,” “Scrooge

Say it with us: When a cold wind blows it chills you, chills you to the bone. A lesser-recognized masterpiece of movie musicals, the Muppet retelling of “A Christmas Carol” is so worth the watch, any time of year.

“Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “Wig In A Box

Neil Patrick Harris’Broadway performance has given the role of a slip of a girly boy from communist East Berlin a new legen-waitforit-dary life, but you’re the star when it comes to putting on some makeup, putting on an 8-track and, well. You ...

Ansel Elgort Auditioned For ‘Fault In Our Stars’…Where?

by 06/08/14

With reporting by Josh Horowitz.

Everyone has their habits, and for a long time, it would see that filming screen tests and audition tapes in his home’s stairwell was one of Ansel Elgort‘s.

This was the case for his tape for “The Fault In Our Stars,” the new movie hitting theaters this weekend featuring Elgort as Augustus Waters, a cancer-stricken teen in the process of falling in love with fellow cancer patient Hazel (Shailene Woodley).

Elgort told MTV News that he recently rewatched his audition tape, with himself and a friend playing Hazel, and that he didn’t mind what he saw. (Obviously producers didn’t mind either, as he ultimately got the part.)

“I was watching it and I was like, ‘That was pretty good,’” he said.

Find out more about Elgort’s audition tape in the clip above.
