Happy Memorial Day! Here Are Our 8 Favorite Movie BBQs

by 05/26/14

Ah, Memorial Day. The unofficial start of summer. A day for respecting and remembering the sacrifices of those who fought for our country. It also happens to be a prime opportunity to turn on the grill and enjoy a little together time.

Grilling is not only a backyard tradition, it’s a movie tradition as well. Many a pivotal scene has taken place around the grill, whether it’s the humiliation of “Varsity Blues,” the gross-out of “Pain and Gain” or the awkwardness of “Waterboy.” In the movies, as in life, the BBQ is the place to be.

We may not want to attend all of them (sorry, “Final Destination 2″ and “Pain and Gain”), but that doesn’t mean we love them any less. In honor of the charred meats we will be consuming this Memorial Day, here are some of our favorite movie BBQs.

“Wet Hot American Summer”

Anywhere Paul Rudd is, we want to be. Yes, even here. “It’s pretty foul.”

“Neighbors”

It’s a newbie but a goodie: we deeply appreciate Zac Efron’s shirtless grilling endeavors while he terrorizes Seth Rogen. Delta Psi has the upper hand, indeed.

“Pain and Gain”

The Rock knows what’s cookin’, even when it’s human flesh. His top tip for a good char? “You gotta cook this s–t outside. It got really smokey in there, Danny.”

“Fast & Furious”

Vin Diesel has rules: If you’re the first to get the chicken, you have to say grace.

“Varsity Blues”

I don’t want your life — but I will take one of those burgers.

“Waterboy”

Everybody who was thirsty got ...

How Jean Ralphio Will Spend His Summer Vacation

by 05/22/14

Guess who got run over by a Lexus is going to be in Robert Zemeckis’ next movie?

Yep, Jean Ralphio of “Parks and Recreation,” whose earth name is Ben Schwartz, has been announced as the latest addition to the cast of Zemeckis’ picture about “Man on Wire” subject Philippe Petit.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play the daring tightrope walker at the center of the film, which is being produced by TriStar Pictures. You know who else is going to be in it? Sir Ben Kingsley. Jean Ralphio is going to hang out with an actual knight this summer. Oh, and make a movie.

But, really, we can’t wait to see the shenanigans Schwartz gets up to on-set.

Schwartz is also super-excited about the as-yet-untitled movie, which is kind of nice to see. The actor posted a screenshot of the casting announcement on his tumblr, flying in the face of the usual too-cool, nonchalant publicist statements confirming casting. By contrast, Schwartz is gushing that he is “beyond honored” and “can’t wait to get started!”

Slow clap for Ben Schwartz, everyone.

Emma Stone Is Enchanting In ‘Magic In The Moonlight’ Trailer

by 05/21/14

We all feel a certain connection to Emma Stone, that much is undeniable. In the trailer for Woody Allen’s latest movie, “Magic In the Moonlight,” however, it would appear that she has a connection to a world even beyond that of the living.

Colin Firth plays Stanley, an English performer who has a specialty in debunking magic tricks, being a practitioner of illusions himself. As a favor for a friend, he goes to scope out beautiful Sophie (Stone), a “visionary and a vision,” who claims to be able to commune with spirits.

Once she floats a candle off a table at a seance, among other otherworldly acts, Stanley may not be quite so ready to call her out as a fraud. Oh, and the fact that he may or may not be a little into her doesn’t help matters either. Oops.

Check out the trailer above and cast your vote. Emma Stone: Mythical, magical or both?

“Magic in the Moonlight” hits theaters July 25.

Jessica Chastain Is Winning At Cannes — And Life

by 05/21/14

It is perhaps unfair to characterize someone who’s very recently been on the receiving end of an Academy Award nomination as just now having a moment, but, hey, let’s consider this the latest in a series of moments Jessica Chastain has been having continuously.

She may have been struck from the running as one of the leads of the second season of HBO’s “True Detective” almost as soon as the rumor sprung up, but the fact is that Chastain has a reputation as the kind of actress people would be happy to see front and center in the super-serious show.

(After all, Matthew McConaughey, one of season one’s leads, didn’t have such a terrible 2013 in film. Alright, alright, alright, Oscar. And Golden Globe. And SAG Award. And Independent Spirit Award.)

Even if she isn’t on our screens solving crimes in one of the best-shot shows ever, Chastain is killing it. Reports coming out of the Cannes Film Festival, which continues through this week, all lead to one conclusion: Girl is owning.

Chastain is a lead in The Weinstein Company’s “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby,” a performance that reportedly has Harvey Weinstein seeing little Oscars dancing in the corners of his field of vision.

The movie got a 10-minute standing ovation, which is not a real thing that happens. Except it did.

Yes, start putting your money down on Chastain for a third Oscar nod (she had back to back honors for “The Help” and for being the mothereffer in ...

‘Girl Meets World’ Theme Song: Listen Now

by 05/20/14

The day we’ve all been waiting for is here: It’s “Girl Meets World” theme song day.

The new sitcom, a spin-off from the classic ’90s Disney series “Boy Meets World,” which aired from 1993 to 2000, follows the life of Cory and Topanga’s daughter, played by Rowan Blanchard. And now that we have a theme song, “Take On the World,” performed by Sabrina Carpenter and Blanchard, we know exactly what it sounds like when that girl meets aforementioned world.

For the purpose of comparison, here’s a compilation of “Boy Meets World” theme songs, which were mostly instrumental, upbeat jams, save for a later iteration that mostly consisted of the lyrics “when this boy meets world,” repeated, lest we forget which show we were watching. Oh, Cory! The shenanigans you got up to.

Entertainment Weekly also debuted the credits for “Girl Meets World,” which you can watch on your very own television set when the show premieres on June 27.

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Teaser Is Something Good

by 05/16/14

Here come the Guardians!

Today brought us a new poster for our super-anticipated superhero flick, and the full trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy” drops on Monday. To hold us over through the long, cold weekend, however, the powers that be (ahem, Marvel) have dropped a 30 second teaser on us.

And though Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord, also known as Peter Quill, theorizes that he and his band of intergalactic buddies have been put here for “something good, something bad, bit of both,” we mostly think of this teasy, teasy snippet as something good. Something very good.

The gang’s all here, including Star-Lord (Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), Drax (Dave Bautista) and Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper). And this time, you don’t even have to get “Hooked on a Feeling” stuck in your head! Oh, wait. There it is.

The new trailer for “Guardians of the Galaxy” will premiere Monday, May 19 on the movie’s Facebook page. “Guardians of the Galaxy” hits theaters August 1.

by 05/16/14

OK, everyone, it’s tissue time. Yes, there’s a new clip from “The Fault In Our Stars.” Yes, it’s a fan-favorite scene. Yes, you’ll probably cry. (This is “The Fault In Our Stars” we’re talking about here.)

Popsugar debuted the new clip, and dang, it’s a weapon of weepy destruction. Watch Hazel and Gus chillax on the Swing Set of Tears, while she explains exactly why she can’t be with him, even though he is a tall, handsome, one-legged drink of water. And then — no, shut up, you’re crying! — he tells her it would be a privilege to have his heart broken by her.

A privilege.

Thud.

Love Jennifer Lawrence? So Do Her ‘X-Men’ Co-Stars

by 05/16/14

With reporting by Josh Horowitz

We trawled the earth trying to find someone who wasn’t wild about Jennifer Lawrence, America’s Sweetheart, BFF and girl crush supreme. We hate to break it to you, but we couldn’t find a soul who had a bad word to say about the “X-Men: Days of Future Past” star.

Not even a mutant!

That’s right. We quizzed Lawrence’s co-stars to try and get them to say something bad about the girl, and there was nothing to be found. Patrick Stewart literally growled at the mention of the fact that he doesn’t get to share any screen time with Lawrence in the upcoming movie, and that guy is a knight. People have to call him sir.

“The way you imagine she is in real life, she is in real life,” co-star Hugh Jackman said of Lawrence.

Watch the clip above to see Lawrence’s co-stars list the million ways they love her.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” hits theaters May 23.

‘Frozen’ Princesses On ‘Once Upon A Time’? Star Makes Her Picks

by 05/16/14

With reporting by Christina Garibaldi.

We’re absolutely shivering with anticipation for next season’s premiere of ABC’s fairy tale spin “Once Upon A Time” after the current season closed out with a cliffhanger reveal of none other than Princess Elsa, the ice-cold ruler of Arendelle.

At the ABC upfronts this week, MTV News caught up with “Once Upon A Time” star Jennifer Morrison to get her thoughts on the surprise character introduction. There had been rumors for months that the “OUAT” creative team was obsessed with “Frozen” and wanted to integrate characters, but the appearance of a cape-wearing blonde shooting ice out of her fingers in Rumple’s vault was still a massive surprise.

“I knew that there were conversations going on about it,” Morrison said. “I didn’t know it was going to actually happen.”

The character hasn’t yet been cast, and we haven’t seen her face, but Morrison said she’d love if Idina Menzel or Kristen Bell, who voiced princesses Anna and Elsa in “Frozen,” could make an appearance.

“I don’t know with their schedules that that’s feasible, but I’m a huge fan of both those girls and they would be an incredible addition to the show,” she said.

“Once Upon A Time” will return to ABC next fall.

The First Stills From ‘Mockingjay’ Are Here

by 05/15/14

Be still, our hearts. Literally. The first official stills from “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” have been released, and they have us feeling a lot of feelings, but mostly we feel excited.

The countdown to November 21 is on, and we’ll be obnoxiously whistling the Mockingjay call until then. We’re still waiting on official pics of Katniss, Peeta, Gale and the gang (sneaky set photos aren’t quite the same as seeing the characters in action), but today brought us our first look at Julianne Moore’s President Alma Coin (and her alluring dye job) and Mahershala Ali as Coin’s right hand man turned Katniss’ personal security detail.

Let’s also give a hearty welcome back to Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), Woody Harrelson (Haymitch) and, of course, Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee) in his final role.

Check out the pics below, then raise your hand in a solemn three-finger salute and count down the days til November.
