Case Solved: Jack The Ripper Unmasked By DNA Technology

by 1 min ago

The most infamous murdering spree in London history has finally been solved 126 years after it occurred – at least, according to author Russell Edwards.

In his new book “Naming Jack the Ripper,” which releases this Tuesday, Edwards details how a shawl bearing the serial killer’s blood led him to DNA evidence that proves Aaron Kiminski – one of six suspects whittled down over the years – was the man behind the 1888 killing spree that terrorized London’s East End.

Kiminski was a Polish immigrant who lived in Mile End Old Town and was eventually admitted to a string of lunatic asylums before dying in 1899 of gangrene in the leg.

For his part, Edwards spent 14 years building a case – he purchased the shawl – which had been found by the body of Ripper victim Catherine Eddowes – at an auction in 2007, then elected the help of molecular biology expert Dr. Jari Louhelainen. DNA from Eddowes’ blood, as well as that of the killer, was found.

“We have definitively solved the mystery of who Jack the Ripper was,” Edwards told The Mirror. “Only non-believers that want to perpetuate the myth will doubt. This is it now – we have unmasked him.”

The tests have yet to be independently verified, but Dr. Louhelainen spent three years analyzing the DNA and is quite confident in the findings.

Kelly Clarkson’s Daughter Is The Cutest Concert-Goer Ever

by 32 mins ago

Kelly Clarkson made her first post-baby appearance last night when she performed at the Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood concert in Rosemont, Illinois – and she brought along a very special guest.

Shortly before the concert, Clarkson posted a photo of daughter River Rose to her Twitter account.

Those floral pants! The bedazzled headphones! The tiny feet! Squeeeeee! Little RR has certainly grown since the last time we saw her, just days after Clarkson gave birth on June 12.

Clarkson guests on Yearwood’s new song “Prize Fighter,” which she performed with the country crooner last night – quite the first-time concert for River! And as for those headphones…

Do they come in adult size? Asking for a friend.

If You Weren’t Convinced Jelena Is Back On, You Should Be Now

by 14 mins ago

For anyone doubting that the Jelena train hasn’t revved firmly into “on again” mode, Justin Bieber just posted a new photo with Selena Gomez on his Shots account.

The couple looks to be on a flight – perhaps heading back to Canada, where they recently rekindled their romance with horseback ride outings and candid photo shoots on ATVs. This could be the Bieber perspective of Gomez’s Instagram shot, wherein she divulged she was leaving Canada for New York.

This isn’t the first instance of Bieber’s Shots account giving us a different angle on the action – check out this snap of the couple, which (based on the Biebs’ attire alone) is clearly an addendum to this Instagram selfie.

There’s also this snap of Bieber riding on a horse – the reverse perspective of his Instagram shot of (we’re guessing to be) Selena.

Are these new uploads of old action, or has Jelena united once more for a retreat elsewhere? Only time (and their various social media accounts) will tell!

JK Rowling Handles Homophobic Tweet With Unexpectedly Brilliant Response

by 20 mins ago

In her five years on Twitter, J.K. Rowling has only tweeted 132 times. It’s safe to say a reply from the beloved “Harry Potter” author is more rare than Priori Incantatem, but she was all action when it came to shutting down a recent homophobic comment in her feed.

Yesterday, a user at the now now-defunct Twitter account @halfelven55ff replied to this May 2 tweet…

…by writing to the author, “once u revealed Dumbledore was homosexual I stopped being a fan. Nice how u blindsided us with that one. Enjoy your billion $”

Rowling’s reply?

She’s referring to a wealthy Scottish businessman who spent one million pounds to organize a “Keep the Clause campaign” back in 2000, which worked to oppose the Scottish government’s plans to repeal a section of the local government act that prevented local authorities from “promoting homosexuality.”

We’ve got to give her props for not sinking to this guy’s level or getting angry, but instead, kindly pointed out that he probably shouldn’t be following her. But it looks like a lot of her followers are showing support for her response.

Basically, Rowling again proved herself a class act capable of wizarding her words wisely – she bedazzling hexed an insult within a helpful suggestion. One homophobic horcrux down, countless more to go – we’ve got your back, J.K.!

Check out MTV’s Look Different Campaign for more information about how to confront anti-LGBT bias.

Rejoice! ‘Magic Mike XXL’ Has Started Filming

by 6 mins ago

The only movie that can trump our anticipation level for “Fifty Shades of Grey” is the sequel to 2012′s “Magic Mike.” The cheekily (get it? Ha!) titled “Magic Mike XXL” is being co-written by star Channing Tatum and directed by Gregory Jacobs, but original “Magic Mike” director Steven Soderbergh is clearly still heavily involved.

Soderbergh tweeted an image of a production slate yesterday, exclaiming, “It’s ON!”

We’ll just presume that – by “it” – Soderbergh means Tatum gyrating to a remix of Ginuwine’s “Pony” for 90 minutes. Does the movie really need anything beyond that?

There’s already a call for extras in Savannah, GA next month, so our interest is piqued regarding what these initial Myrtle Beach shots entail. Sure, the helicopter in the background suggests second unit shots, but we also know Tatum has recently become well-versed in the art of backflipping from above and stripping down, so…dare to dream.

“Magic Mike XXL” hits theaters July 1, 2015.

How To Prevent Your Own Leaked Photo Hack

by 11 mins ago

The flagrant violation of privacy committed by hackers after a purported iCloud leak of private photos belonging to Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and others has us all talking – and fretting – about what we’d do if we were in their position.

As the various celebrities whose personal photos have been acquired and released by Internet community 4chan release their own statements, we think it’s important to begin by making a few things clear. We’ll let the inimitable Lena Dunham take this one.

Got it? Good. Now that it’s obvious this can happen to even the most security-minded members of the public, we’d like to suggest some tips for upping the privacy quotient of your data so the same fate doesn’t befall your most intimate snapshots.

• Know how iCloud works. We’re partial to this Digital Trends guide.

• Disable sharing from iCloud. Simply go to settings/iCloud on your phone or system preferences/iCloud on your Mac and turn off anything you don’t want shared, including photos, contacts, mail, etc. Just make sure you back up all your data onto your computer or an external hard drive first – turning off your photo stream will delete all automatically stored photos from iCloud.

• Set up separate passwords for separate accounts. All the complicated encryption services in the world are only as strong as your password. We get that it seems impossible to keep a different password in mind for every account you own, but the scary fact is, if one account bearing ...

Donnie Wahlberg And Jenny McCarthy Tie The Knot

by 30 mins ago

Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg are now hangin’ tough in holy matrimony! The couple were married yesterday at the Hotel Baker in St. Charles, Illinois. No word yet on whether or not they served Wahlburgers at the reception.

The former “View” co-host and “Blue Bloods” actor – who got engaged in April (who could forget that adorable story?) – were joined by Wahlberg’s “New Kids on the Block” bandmates Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Danny Wood and Jonathan Knight. We’re just going to presume they harmonized “Step by Step” as McCarthy walked down the aisle towards Wahlberg, because weddings are for making dreams come true – never mind if they happen to be our dreams.

Noticeably absent from the festivities: Donnie’s younger brother Mark, who was busy celebrating daughter Ella’s birthday, but sent well wishes on his Twitter account…

…and followed up via Facebook with an adorable congratulations video featuring his family.

This is the second marriage for both McCarthy and Wahlberg, who were joined by Jenny’s son Evan and Donnie’s sons Xavier and Elijah. We’re sending our congratulations – and a heartfelt (albeit off-key) rendition of “I’ll Be Loving You” – to the newlyweds!

Watch Candid Videos Of 16-Year-Old Katy Perry In Her Christian Singer Phase

by 2 mins ago

Katy Perry has always been vocal about her musical beginnings, but this is the first time we’ve had an uncensored glimpse into the singer’s early days as a performer on the road.

Videographer Jim Standridge recently unearthed 90 minutes of raw footage from an electronic press kit he shot for Red Hill Records back in 2001, when they first signed a Christian music artist named Katy Hudson. He edited it down to 13-minute montage, full of priceless intimate moments with an earnest, teenage Katy.

The footage includes Katy giving a tour of her trailer, where she’s watching “Survivor,” and if the “Roar” video is any indication, she’s still fan of the show. We see her putting “loads of makeup on before the show” (some things never change!) and struggling with how to wear her hair, finally up opting for pigtails.

The shots of her greeting fans and gleefully signing autographs feel like foreshadowing. Finally, we see her belting out melodies and playing guitar onstage—and talk about raw talent – her voice is exactly the same!). Plus, we get a glimpse into her private life when she breaks down in tears when talking about how much she misses her parents and life on the road.

“I’m just some kid from California!” Perry confesses to the camera. If only she knew then what we all know now! One thing is clear: Perry may’ve been a baby-faced newbie to the music industry, but even back then this year’s Best Female Video VMA winner ...

Michael Sam Is Officially A Free Agent

by 26 mins ago

St. Louis Rams defensive end Michael Sam cleared waivers at noon ET today after being cut by the team yesterday.

Having not been claimed by one of the other 31 NFL teams, Sam is now free to sign with a practice squad. ESPN reports that Sam may still join the team’s 10-member practice squad, and that he and Rams coach Jeff Fisher are expected to discuss sometime today.

Despite failing to make the Rams’ 53-person roster, Sam – the first openly gay player drafted into the NFL – served up a team high of six tackles in the Rams’ last preseason game.

Sam was a seventh-round draft pick for the Rams in May, clocking in as the 249th NFL pick overall. He showed with a preseason total of 11 tackles and three sacks.

“I believe he can play in this league,” Fisher said in a news conference yesterday. Where he lands, on the other hand, is completely up to Sam at this point.
