Beyonce’s Father’s Day Wish For Jay Z Is The Best

by 06/15/14

Somehow Beyoncè manages to be both the queen of hip-hop and Instagram, but she may’ve topped herself with this Father’s Day post.

It’s amazing how a simple “Happy Happy Father’s Day” caption can slay us, but consider the material, via her Instagram account this morning: Bey’s hubby Jay-Z holding their tiny daughter Blue Ivy on his shoulders.

Happy Happy Father's Day

We’re pretty sure this adorable, indelible black and white image will be our favorite of the celebrity snapshots paying tribute to dad today, but hey — there’s still time, <a href=Kim and Kanye!

Sandra Bullock Plus Matthew McConaughey Plus Hugh Grant Plus Keanu Reeves Equals Our Dream Rom-Com

by 06/08/14

Sandra Bullock was given the (totally warranted) Decade of Hotness honor at last night’s Spike TV Guys Choice Awards, and all of our wildest Rom-Com dreams came true when she was presented with the golden antlers by not one, but three of her former leading men.

As if Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant and Keanu Reeves hitting the stage wasn’t enough, her “A Time to Kill,” “Two Weeks Notice” and “Speed” co-stars brought a tiara, sash and bouquet of roses, leaving Bullock bedecked “Miss Congeniality”-style while giving her acceptance speech.

For the love of McConaughey, can we make this Sandra-plus-three situation a thing?! We’ll buy all the tickets to this movie! Better yet, they’re looking to cast three leads in season 2 of “True Detective,” right? Bring ‘em along for the ride with Rust Cohle and let’s do this, HBO!

Kanye West Busted Out A Revamped ‘Yeezus’ Stage At The Summer X Games

by 06/08/14

Kanye West rang in his birthday a day early with an epic performance at the Summer X Games last night in Austin.

West debuted a stage design reminiscent of his Yeezus tour, with a festival-friendly-sized mountain range and a massive screen backdrop that projected images of waterfalls and West himself.

The set list didn’t include any debuts from his forthcoming album, instead focusing on recent hits like “Black Skinhead,” “Power” and “Mercy,” although he also pulled out plenty of the classics for the audience – ”Jesus Walks,” “All Falls Down” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” were among his picks.

And, of course, wife Kim Kardashian was on hand to take photos of the performance.

“My husband performing tonight at XGamesAustin!!!!” she wrote via her Instagram account, captioning a photo of West silhouetted by his incredible stage backdrop.

Are Cumberbatch and Hardy Duking it Out For Doctor Strange?

by 06/07/14

Now that Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” has a director in “Sinister” helmer Scott Derrickson, it seems two major actors might be in contention for the lead role of Stephen Strange.

Hint: it’s not Johnny Depp, a “Community” cast member, or Jared Leto.

Deadline has revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy are both on Marvel’s early cast list.

We’re intrigued by the picks, in part because each actor could embody a separate side of the Doctor’s personality. We’re envisioning Cumberbatch as the brilliant neurosurgeon and Hardy as the all-powerful Sorcerer Supreme. Only time will tell if Marvel nabs one of them, or if they have to scroll further down their wish list (we still think Edgar Martinez should be on it!)

What do you think of the casting rumors? Are you Team Cumberbatch or Team Hardy? State your case in the comments!

The ‘Orange Is The New Black’ – ‘Fault In On Our Stars’ Crossover Sums Up Our Weekend

by 06/07/14

Talk about serendipitous synergy! Season 2 of “Orange is the New Black” premiered on Netflix yesterday, the same day author John Green’s big-screen adaptation of “The Fault in Our Stars” hit theaters, and fans of both are in for a fun Easter Egg of sorts.

Specifically: one of the OITNB season 2′s new characters, Vee (played by Lorraine Toussaint), reading Green’s novel.

Fans brought the exchange to Green’s attention via Tumblr, where he reblogged the screencap (featuring Vee’s, ehem, colorful review) with the caption, “HIGHLIGHT OF MY LIFE.”

Because, you know, the fact that his film just had a hugely successful opening and beat Tom Cruise at the box office ain’t no thang.

Green later Tweeted the exchange, saying, “It’s been quite a few days, but the highlight so far was watching season 2 of #OITNB when suddenly OMFG MY BOOK!”

Green’s book ties into some spoiler-y “Orange is the New Black” plot lines, so we won’t reveal all. Suffice it to say: once we recover from our Netflix binge/post-theater sobbing fits, we would watch the heck outta an OITNB-TFIOS crossover. Make it so, entertainment gods.

‘The Fault in Our Stars’ Conquers All (Specifically: Tom Cruise) At The Box Office

by 06/07/14

What does it take to defeat Tom Cruise? Ask author John Green, because the big-screen adaptation of his wildly popular “The Fault in Our Stars” soared past the A-lister’s “Edge of Tomorrow” for a huge opening, and is on track to woo the weekend crowd for a win at the box office.

No fault in this performance: the YA drama defied expectations with a $23.5-$25+ million opening, on track for what could be an incredible $53+ million grossing weekend. Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie bewitched the competition with her ability to own the box office two weekends in a row — “Maleficent” conjured second place, which leaves Tom’s “Edge of Tomorrow” on Cruise control for a third place opener – the film debuted at $10.4 million, with a projected $28-$30 million weekend.

“Edge” isn’t the only star-packed, big-budget action film that “Fault” has unhanded. It seems, based on the movie’s Thursday night numbers, that the power of young love also defeats superhero mutants! “The Fault in Our Stars” took in $8.2 million on Thursday night, while “X-Men: Days of Future Past” garnered $8.1 million on its late-night Thursday opening.

It probably doesn’t hurt that “The Fault in Our Stars” — which follows the romance between two teens who meet at a cancer support group — includes a tear duct-shattering performance by mega-star Shailene Woodley and the uber-charismatic Ansel Elgort. In our very scientific opinions, we think it has something to do with the film’s magical propensity to make your eyes leak uncontrollably. ...

Jennifer Lawrence’s Mop Movie Has a Release Date

by 06/06/14

The next dream team pairing of director David O. Russell and actress Jennifer Lawrence has an official release date: Christmas 2015.

It’s pretty clear that the prime slot for “Joy” – a biopic about Miracle Mop creator Joy Mangano – proves the film’s studio, Fox, is confident that the duo’s “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook” follow-up will follow suit in, ahem, wiping the floor with the competition come awards season.

Though it’s not official, Lawrence has all but confirmed she’s playing the lead. We’re stoked to see her embody the Long Island native and single mom of three, who rocketed to fame via QVC and became a multi-millionaire in the process – the role seems like a kind of DIY genius extension of her “American Hustle” character Rosalyn Rosenfeld. Just substitute the angry vacuuming for contemplative mopping and, voila!

If Lawrence manages to brandish one of the Miracle Mop prototypes like a bow and arrow, Katniss-style, it’ll win all of the awards. (In our hearts.)

‘Game Of Thrones’ Actor Lands Role In Netflix Drama Series

by 06/06/14

This should mend the broken hearts of all you Pedro Pascal fans: less than a week after his Red Viper rather ceremoniously exited “Game of Thrones,” Deadline has revealed that the actor will appear in the upcoming Netflix drama series “Narcos.”

The show focuses on infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar (played by Wagner Moura) and the Mexican DEA agent sent to capture him (Pascal) – it’s based on true events, and focuses on the rise of cocaine trafficking in the U.S. and Europe.

Netflix has already ordered a full season (that’s 10 episodes of Pascal goodness for you, folks) and the project is being directed by José Padilha (fresh off the “RoboCop” remake), who is executive producing along with “Children of Men” producer Eric Newman.

You’ll have to wait until early 2015 to catch Pascal in his role, but at least it gives you something to look forward to as you replay that last scene of “The Mountain and the Viper” while sobbing and babbling incoherently about your long-lost Prince of Dorne.

‘The Best of Me’ Trailer: Nicholas Sparks Continues To Make You Swoon-Cry

by 06/06/14

Moving piano music? Check. Young love? Check. A rain-soaked kiss? Check. A Southern locale? Check.

This can only mean one thing: the first trailer for the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation has arrived.

“The Best of Me” follows ex-high school sweethearts Dawson Cole (James Marsden) and Amanda Collier (Michelle Monaghan) as they reunite many years after what looks to be a torrid separation. The trailer promises plenty of sweet flashbacks to their earlier romance, a bevy of seriously hot love scenes and some decidedly chiseled Marsden abs – basically, we’ve already bought our tickets.

And while we’re sure the film will be a bittersweet ride, it’s made even more poignant when recalling that Paul Walker was originally on board to play Dawson. It can’t be a coincidence that Marsden bears an uncanny resemblance in this – his lightened, short-cropped hair is decidedly Walker-esque.

Start stocking up on Kleenex now – “The Best of Me” hits theaters October 17.
