‘Batman Vs. Superman’: A Closer Look At The New Batsuit

by 05/13/14

Now that the first photo has debuted, it’s clear that for his take on the Caped Crusader, Zack Snyder really wants to bring Batman back toward the darker vigilante comic book fans know from the work of Frank Miller.

When Snyder announced the meeting of Batman and Superman back at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, he used a quote from Miller’s iconic run to tease what he hoped to achieve with his “Man of Steel” follow-up.

Just a passing glance at the new Batsuit, with its stubbier ears, large emblem and gauntlet-like gloves, that this is the Batman from “The Dark Knight Returns.”

Batman’s suit obviously plays into that, but also the man beneath it. Soon after Ben Affleck joined the movie, there were rumors floating around that he had already started to bulk up. Those rumors now appear to be very, very true. While Christian Bale wasn’t exactly lean during his tenure as Bruce Wayne, Affleck is built like a bulldog.

Since Snyder took the first photo in a low-contrast monochrome, many of the other details in the Batsuit are hard to make out. It’s possible that the main portion of the costume falls in line with the “Dark Knight Returns” gray aesthetic, but we’ll have to wait for a color photo.

The suit itself has a texture that looks almost sinewy. Random scratches in the texture hint at the description of a worn-down Batman that we’ve been hearing for some time ...

Channing Tatum Confirmed For Future ‘X-Men’ Role

by 05/13/14

Do we finally have confirmation that Channing Tatum will sling cards as Gambit in an upcoming “X-Men” movie? It looks like it.

After months of “maybe’s” and “could be’s,” “X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler Donner told Total Film that, yes, Tatum will be Remy LeBeau a.k.a. Gambit, the fan-favorite mutant with total control of energy.

“He’s a rogue. Channing, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau,” Donner said. “And he can handle the action. We all know that. And he’s got a really good heart.”

At the 2014 MTV Movie Awards last month, Tatum told MTV News that he “would die” to play Gambit, and it looks like he’s getting his wish.

“I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. I would love [to]. Gambit’s really the only X-Men that I’ve ever loved. I love them all. They’re all great. I don’t know,” he said. “I guess being from down south… I just related to him. He’s the most un-X-Men X-Men that’s ever been in X-Men, other than maybe Wolverine.”

‘Godzilla’ Meets ‘Jaws’ In Monster Movie Mash-Up

by 05/12/14

In many ways, the new “Godzilla” is a lot like “Jaws.” You don’t see a lot of the title creature because he’s just out of view, but when he does finally show up, the monster really goes for the gut.

(Also, like “Jaws,” the latest “Godzilla” is really good.)

That’s what inspired us to make this trailer for “Jawzilla,” a nice mixing of the two summer monster movie gems.

“Godzilla” opens in theaters on May 16.

Live Action ‘Frozen’ And 9 Other Inevitable Remakes

by 05/09/14

The rumor of a “Lethal Weapon” remake got me thinking. I really shouldn’t be surprised anymore when a well liked, recent-ish movie gets the reboot treatment.

So why not just start preparing for some of the most beloved movies in recent memory to become remakes in 20 years? It will honestly save a lot of heartbreak later on in life.

So join with me, as I take a look at the movies that are almost definitely getting future remakes.

magic-mike-1024
“Magic Mike”
Sure, there’s a sequel on the way, but give it a decade or two. The remake for Steven Soderbergh’s stripper drama will come. Some exec will have a hot, young star they want to showcase in a big way, and soon enough we’re watching a trailer with the throwback tune “We Found Love.”

drive
“Drive”
Of course the Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn existential crime movie doesn’t need a remake, but that’s why it will get one. The (real human being and a real) hero will be a fast-talking wheelman that operates by a strict set of rules. There will be at least ten chases, and the graphic violence will get downgraded to a pleasant PG-13. Sorry, Christina Hendricks’ exploding head.

“13 Going on 30″
A teenage boy in 2013 has a crappy birthday and wishes to be a thriving 30-year-old. He gets his wish, but the year 2030 isn’t quite what he hoped it would be. The new “Call of Duty” game doesn’t use ...

Star-Lord Suits Up In New ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Still

by 05/07/14

The secret behind the renewed interest in Star-Lord isn’t that complicated. After Marvel reintroduced the character in 2006, he got a sweet mask with glowing red-orange eyes, and BOOM — now he has his own movie.

Sci-fi masks are cool. (How else do you explain the popularity of Boba Fett?) And two new stills from “Guardians of the Galaxy” feature Chris Pratt in the movie version of the mask.

It’s nice to see Star-Lord actually wearing his headgear, since it wouldn’t be terribly surprising if Marvel came up with an excuse to keep him out of it and better display Pratt’s handsome face on-screen.

If I had to guess, I’d say these photos come after the big jail break that brings the members of the Guardians together. Peter Quill is out of his prison yellows and reclaiming his space outlaw gear.

Now that Star-Lord’s mask is finally getting some love, here’s to hoping we see a lot more of it when “Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theaters on August 1.

Can this movie please just open already? I’m tired of being way too excited for it.

‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′: The Post-Credit Scene You Didn’t See

by 05/06/14

Breaking from the tradition set by Marvel Studios, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ didn’t feature an in-credits tease for an upcoming movie.

Well, it did if you count this “X-Men: Days of Future Past” scene.

But this wasn’t always the plan. Rumors of a proper post-credit scene featuring the frozen head of Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper) cropped up months ago, but when “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ hit theaters this past weekend, the sequence disappeared.

The rumor was basically dismissed once the press caught early screenings, but now Geek Tyrant has a photo that seems to prove the scene’s existence after all.

The still shows Gustav Fiers walking through the Oscorp underground, away from what is pretty easily identified as the frozen head of Norman Osborn.

According to the original rumor, the man in the hat approaches the cryogenic case and says, “Wake up old friend.”

It’s not clear what kind of implications the twist would have on the future films, but by deleting the scene, the filmmakers have appeared to take Norman Osborn out of the equation, possibly leaving him dead for good.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ is in theaters now.

Watch The Post-Credits ‘X-Men’ Scene From ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′

by 05/05/14

Audiences that stuck around until after the credits of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ were treated to a special look at the next adaptation of another Marvel Comics property.

That clip from “X-Men: Days of Future Past” is now online (via IGN) and features another good look at Jennifer Lawrence in action as the shape-shifting Mystique.

In the preview, a young William Stryker arrives on an army base to collect a number of mutants, including Toad (Evan Jonigkeit) and Havok (Lucas Till). What Stryker doesn’t count on is Mystique hiding under the skin of one of men present in the bunker.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens in theaters on May 23.

Poll: How Did ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Handle Its Big Scene?

by 05/05/14

Going into “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” it was hard to say which direction the movie would take in terms of Gwen Stacy.

Spoilers below!

Emma Stone‘s character is known best in the comics for dying. In fact, the debate over whether Spider-Man killed her while trying to save her still wages on.

Since Gwen’s identity is so closely tied to her demise, it became a question of whether “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ would follow the path drawn for it for 40 years, or set the audience up for possibly the most surprising non-death of all time.

As anyone who saw “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ this past weekend knows, the filmmakers chose the former, and a lot of fans aren’t sure how to feel about it.

There’s the camp that understands that the nature of Gwen’s character and her role in Peter’s life requires her to die. To them, keeping her alive would fly in the face of the source material, a cardinal sin for a superhero movie.

On the other hand, the chemistry between Stone and Andrew Garfield was one of the best things that the series had going for it. Replacing Gwen with Felicia Hardy or Mary Jane Watson means bringing in an actress who could never possibly measure up to Garfield’s real-life girl.

What, are they going to find someone who shares more chemistry with Garfield? Unlikely.

But enough about what I think, it’s time to share your thoughts. Vote in the poll above and share your thoughts below in the comments.

‘Terminator: Genesis’ Casts Geek Favorite In Major Role

by 05/02/14

The “Terminator” reboot — tentatively subtitled “Genesis” — is already pretty nerdy.

It’s launching a new sci-fi trilogy based on the James Cameron classic, and it stars Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones.” Plus, other star Jason Clarke is about to meet some damn dirty apes in “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”

But can it be nerdier?

Yes. Yes, it can.

Deadline is reporting that former “Doctor Who” actor Matt Smith has just been cast in “Terminator: Genesis” for a “major role that will grow in the second and third films.”

Making “Genesis” Smith’s first major post-Doctor role just bumped the geek factor ten-fold, and I’m very, very okay with that.

It’s also interesting that the filmmakers already have an idea of where things are headed in the future of the series. And they’ve picked a solid actor to hang it on.

“Terminator: Genesis” — or whatever it’s eventually called — also stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, J.K. Simmons, Jai Courtney and Day Okeniyi. It opens in theaters on July 1, 2015.
