No one does quirky quite like Bill Murray, and that continues with his turn as a retired curmudgeon in the recently released trailer for his new film, “St. Vincent.”
The clip begins with Murray’s Vincent trying to close a bank account only to learn that it’s been overdrawn. Then, while moving in next door, Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) and her movers chop down a tree branch that lands squarely on Vincent’s car, because of course.
As it turns out, Maggie’s a single mother with a young son named Oliver (newcomer Jaeden Lieberher) who’s just as hapless as his mysteriously weird older neighbor.
For $11 an hour, Vincent agrees to watch Oliver after school, beat up bullies and introduce him to the finer points of a life filled with strip clubs, race tracks and ladies of the night.
When a befuddled Maggie asks why her son is mowing the dirt patch in his backyard, Vincent has the perfect response.
“I’m showing him how the world works,” he says. “You work, you get paid, you drink.”
“St. Vincent” is slated to open in theaters nationwide on October 24.
