The 11 Most Romantic Things Ed Sheeran’s Ever Said

by 06/09/14

By Emilie Cruz

Clearly Ed Sheeran, the ginger genius behind songs like “One,” “Give Me Love,” “Little Things,” and “Tenerife Sea” knows how romance goes. His songs expertly capture the hope, euphoria, vulnerability, and painful letting-go of love in a way that’s universal but also in a way that reveals that he’s just better at articulating the emotional spin cycle of love than you are. (His endless legions of Sheerios seem to have noticed.)

If he weren’t a wildly successful singer-songwriter, he could have a second career writing Valentines and other romantic greeting cards, if that weren’t a way less glamorous job (can’t knock the hustle, though).

Fortunately, based on the success of his No. 1 hit, “Sing,” from his upcoming X album, which is bound for the top of the U.S. charts, Ed Sheeran probably won’t go into the greeting card business any time soon.

There’s a lot to be learned from Ed Sheeran’s lessons in love. 11 things, specifically, all of which we’ve captured below. So check out the most romantic things Ed Sheeran’s ever said, in case you’re looking for a touching way to say “I love you” and can’t find the right words to say something as profound as “all I want is the taste that your lips allow.”

1.) “So I’ll take you to the beach/ And walk along the sand/ And I’ll make you a heart pendant/ With a pebble held in my hand/ And I’ll carve it like a necklace/ So the heart ...

Exclusive: How Hugh Jackman Pulled Off His Tonys Rap

by 06/09/14

By Josh Horowitz

In a night filled with surprising moments — from Hugh Jackman’s hopping frenzy to Carole King’s rousing duet with her theatrical doppelganger — it was a hip hop inspired rendition from “The Music Man” that provoked the most questions. For one, how did LL Cool J and T.I. hook up with Tonys host Jackman for the memorable performance?

MTV News can exclusively shed light on the super-secretive Tonys moment. A source close to Jackman gave us the inside scoop on how it all came to be, plus the host shared a few exclusive words with us about the buzzy performance.

It Was Years In The Making
The idea of the performance actually has its roots in a nearly two-year-old “Tonight Show” appearance in which Jackman sang a bit of “Music Man.” Our source explained that Jackman’s rapid-fire singing always sounded like rapping to him in his head. When Jackman signed on as Tonys host four months ago, he expressed his idea to perform this unusual rendition to the producers and they immediately responded to it.

It Was The Best Kept Secret Of The Tonys
Outside of a select few, nobody but nobody knew about the performance. Jackman met with Questlove, who helped create the beat, and LL and T.I. joined him in three top-secret rehearsals in the past week. Frankly, Jackman and his team were shocked the secret collaboration never leaked. Jackman gave much of the credit for the performance to LL and T.I., telling us, “They were able to ...

All The Gross Ways You Reacted To Seeing ‘The Fault In Our Stars’

by 06/09/14

By Caitlyn Callegari

The Fault in Our Stars” premiered this weekend so you know what that means– tears, lots of em’. If you happen to be one of those sobbing mega fans, fear not! You aren’t alone on that front. “The Fault in Our Stars” has reduced us all to blubbering, incoherent messes of people.

Here’s a blush-inducing and detailed rehashing of what you did while viewing “TFIOS” for the very first time:

1. Cried… instantly.

Opening credits rolled:

The Fault In Our Stars

You:

…And every second after the credits rolled.

2. Tried to pretend you weren’t crying when things like this happened:

Resistance is futile.

3. Mopped up aforementioned tears with any sort of fabric near you.

Shirt, scarf, shorts, pocketbook, the popcorn bag…

4. Shunned your friends when you realized that they WEREN’T crying (?!?!)

And they reacted like this…

5. Or when you did this because the person behind you wouldn’t stop talking:

6. Gripped the stranger’s hand next to you when it all became too much.

Expectation:

Reality:

7. Melted into your seat to avoid others looking at you babbling.

8. Outwardly cursing John Green for the injustice:

You:

NOT OKAY!

9. Turned to your best friend to discuss every detail that was different than the book.

To the dismay of others around you…

SORRY YOU’RE NOT SORRY FOR BEING LITERATE.

10. This:

When This Happened:

11. Or that:

Justin Bieber Spends Time With Family After One Rough Week

by 06/06/14

By Maurice Bobb

It was a really rough week for Justin Bieber.

So after enduring the malicious spin cycle of leaked videos containing racists remarks and issuing apologies, the beleaguered pop star decided to spend time with the only people he knows for certain has his back: family.

In an Instagram video posted Friday (June 6) with the caption “Famtime,” the singer is shown wearing a baseball cap and a white tank top with the tattoo of Psalm 119:105 on his shoulder in plain view.

“Thy word is a lamp for my feet, and a light on my path,” says the skin art.

The clip begins with Bieber kissing his young sister Jazmyn on the top of her head and telling her, “love you.”

Jazmyn says, “love you, too” and then the camera pans over to her and her brother Jaxon watching their father, Jeremy Bieber, cut into a homemade birthday cake with the words, “Happy Birthday Daddy” on top to celebrate turning 40.

What gives this short video cuteness overload, though, is Jazmyn asking her Dad to cut her a piece of the cake while almost singing the phrase “for me.”

Three days ago, the “Looking For You” singer posted a similar message on Twitter with a selfie of him and his father.

An appreciative Jeremy posted the full version of his son’s IG video on his Twitter page Wednesday.

Tyga And Young Thug Inhale The ‘Hookah’: Watch Now

by 06/06/14

By Maurice Bobb

Tyga is taking a trip to the jungle in the new video for his Young Thug-assisted single, “Hookah,” which dropped Friday (June 6).

The T-Raww-directed clip begins with the Young Money rapper strolling the expansive grounds of a lush, picturesque garden in search of a Jade green bikini-clad beauty.

Interspersed with shots of Thug smoking in the club surrounded by a bevy of models, the visual continues with the Los Angeles rapper walking through a maze of green serenity until he catches up with his love interest.

After Thug finishes his hook, “Baby pass me the hookah/Aye, baby just pass me the hoo-kah,” Tyga settles in among various exotic animals, including a camel, a monkey and, of course, a tiger.

Once the scene is set, he rattles off rhymes with excited jubilation, rapping, “Rubbin on my chain blowing cloudmatic, Smoke something with a G and bend that ass backwards/Lay back relax and talk mathematics, Later on we test a little sex practice.”

Before the end credits roll, Tyga and his collaborator can be seen dragging tobacco smoke from hookah pipes in a club, the garden and a Versace-decorated hotel room.

Tyga’s upcoming LP, The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty, which will feature production by Kanye West, has no release date as of yet.

Hear A Preview Of Nas’ ‘No Such Thing As White Jesus’ With Frank Ocean

by 06/06/14

By Maurice Bobb

What was once a lost Hit-Boy-produced Nas song is now found.

Over a year after Hit-Boy recovered the track that was originally slated for Nas’ Life Is Good LP, fans are one step closer to hearing the Frank Ocean-assisted “No Such Thing as White Jesus.”

Hit-Boy took to Instagram Friday to post a teaser video featuring the long-lost track with the caption: “Found these files finally. For real this time. Frank ocean whattup.”

While only a few seconds long, the clip allows fans to hear the song’s beat, which is laced with a pulsing bass line and punching drums.

Unfortunately, the visual ends before Esco jumps in, but Ocean’s signature falsetto is unmistakeable a his croons the line, “Put a crown on your head and remove the chains.”

During an interview with the New York Times last year, the “No Church In The Wild” singer sang some of the song’s lyrics, so listeners can now put some of the sonic pieces of the puzzle together.

“Whatever you do, young king, don’t wind up dead/ Young queen, cross your legs/ Put a crown on your head and remove the chains/ ‘Cause even diamond chains are for slaves/ Don’t set foot in no penitentiary and don’t taste the poison/ Don’t you bail on your families,” Ocean sang.

No word on when the “N—as in Paris” producer will let the full version go, but one thing’s for sure, there will be a lot of happy hip-hop fans when it does see the light of ...

Why Strict Parenting Doesn’t Necessarily Help Prevent Teen Pregnancy

by 06/06/14

By Lauren Mann of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy

Jazmin’s “16 and Pregnantepisode probably hit home with many viewers: Her super-strict parents had very specific rules about dating and having sex — as in, no sex allowed. But Jazmin and her boyfriend, Dell, were sexually active despite her family’s beliefs. Because of her secrecy, she felt she couldn’t talk to them about protection, and it wasn’t long before she and Dell would face the consequences.

Jazmin wasn’t taking birth control pills because she thought they make you fat and lose your hair. You know what also causes weight gain, among a dozen other side effects? Pregnancy. If she didn’t want to be on the pill, there are all kinds of other options she could have explored. Bedsider.org has a helpful tool that lets you sort methods by effectiveness, ease of use or privacy (for example, private enough that your parents won’t stumble upon them).

16 and Pregnant Jazmin

It’s difficult when you don’t have parents you can communicate with about being sexually active. But knowledge is power and being responsible about your body means you’re being responsible about your future. There are a few different places you can visit to get information about sexual health and birth control, without parent involvement. You can always talk to your doctor or visit a clinic to talk to a practitioner, but if your doctor is friendly with your parent or ...

Round Two: Funkmaster Flex Goes Off On Dame Dash Again

by 06/05/14

By Maurice Bobb

Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex directed a bellicose radio rant at Dame Dash again on Thursday (June 5) after the former Roc-A-Fella mogul tried to defend his calling out of former Def Jam executive Joie Manda as one of hip-hop’s “culture vultures.”

Flex was initially riled up after reading Dame’s Instagram post Monday, which featured a headshot of Manda, calling Flex’s former A&R a “clown.”

The popular DJ fired off his own shots, but kept the audio under wraps out of “respect” for Champagne Dame.

But now, apparently, there’s a thin line between respect and rants.

After yelling “cut the song!” Funk Flex dove into a lengthy diatribe, filled with stories and explanations about how he came to know Dame, his experiences with him and why he believed his “culture vultures” insult was out of line.

“Right now, stick to artwork and clothing and slippers,” he said. “Do that. That’s all you. That’s your lane. Let me do this music thing up here. I got this. Roc-A-Fella didn’t give me any money to play nothin’, always had paper. Nice try!”

“Culture vultures? What is that?” he continued. “People who are not of his color capitalizing on the culture? Is that what is being said? Don’t try to say you ever paid me to play records. Tell the story of how you was tryin’ to pay the person next to me to get me to play records. You remember that conversation?”

Flex then dug into his archives for the origins of Jay and ...

Justin Bieber Fans Are A ‘Little Quieter’ After Latest Racist Video

by 06/05/14

By Maurice Bobb

After a second video surfaced of Justin Bieber using the N-word, fans of the embattled singer didn’t seem to be so willing to forgive him as they were after the first video leaked.

The video, which was posted to TMZ on Wednesday, shows a young Bieber singing a racist version of “One Less Lonely Girl.” Bieber offered up another mea culpa, but detractors and fans still made a beeline to social media to offer up their thoughts and comments regarding the racist remarks made by the pop star.

“The last few times Bieber got into trouble, “Beliebers” rallied w/ support. This time? Little quieter. Might be why he apologized. #tytlive,” wrote JDVarner.

Bieber supporters leaned on the “growing up” defense, but some people aren’t buying it.

“Bieber supporters who are spouting the argument, ‘Oh, he’s just growing up…’ Doesn’t growing up entail maturing and acting like an adult?” wrote PushinUpRoses.

While CNN anchor Don Lemon blamed “young people of all ages, in public, who can barely get through a sentence without using the word” for Bieber’s woes, fans are getting tired of “excuses.”

“Can we please stop making excuses for Justin Bieber now? Thanks.” wrote BlitznBeans.

Perhaps the most telling opinion came from an MTV News commenter who has a biracial daughter devoted to the Bieber fanclub.

“Today while googling her favorite singer she learned a heart breaking truth about something she has no control over!!!” she wrote about her daughter, Julie. “I have been sticking up for him for years and ...

Hey Lil Wayne, Insane Clown Posse Hate Your Pants

by 06/05/14

By Maurice Bobb

For the most part, Lil Wayne ain’t got no worries.

But the YMCMB head honcho might have a problem or two with the Insane Clown Posse after he hears about the shade they threw his way about his “swag.”

“Everybody thinks it’s wack, it’s corny, the skintight pants he wears and sh–,” ICP’s Shaggy 2 Dope told HipHopDX. “Nobody gonna say sh– about it because everybody don’t want to burn no bridge with him and Cash Money. It’s like, ‘Come on, man. Everyone knows your swag is corny as f–k.’ Just nobody want to say it.”

According to the the wicked clowns from Detroit, no one in the industry wants to slam Weezy in any shape or form. Question is, though, why did the The Mighty Death Pop! MCs feel the need to?

“Because it’s corny as f–k,” Shaggy said. “Come on, man. Look how stupid he looks. How can you be rockin’ leotards, you know? It’s like, ‘Come on, man. You can’t do that.’ It’s also tongue-in-cheek, too. He probably knows he’s corny for wearing it, but he’s like, ‘I can wear whatever the f–k I want to wear and people will respect it.’ It’s just silly.”

But before Tunechi issues an expletive-filled video tirade directed at the two leaders of the Juggalos, he should know that their “shots” are all in fun.

“It’s done in a comedian fashion,” Shaggy said. “How can you be mad if a comedian is making jokes about you? With Lil Wayne, of ...
