‘Labyrinth’: Reviews Are In For The CW’s Time-Jumping Miniseries

by 05/23/14

By Shaunna Murphy

Those of you who don’t feel like shelling out the $16 to see “X-Men: Days of Future Past” on Friday (May 23) have another time-jump friendly option — The CW will conclude its two-part miniseries, “Labyrinth,” at 8 pm.

Part one aired on Thursday (you can watch it in full on The CW’s website), and critics have already had their way with the historical drama, which stars Jessica Brown Findlay (“Downton Abbey”) and Vanessa Kirby as two women living in different time periods (1209 and modern day) who are both chasing the Holy Grail. It also stars the Winter Solider himself, Sebastian Stan, as well as Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), so if that right there isn’t enough to make you tune in, here’s what the critics are saying.

Stick It Out
“The action scenes are spot on and it’s a cobblestone-aganza of gorgeous settings. The story hits its stride by the second half of the first night, and those who stick it out will likely be hooked.” — Liane Bonin Starr, HitFix

A Head-Scratcher
“The mythology is both more complicated and more vague than that, which makes the first two hours of ‘Labyrinth’ a demanding ride. It also suggests a more hard-hitting ending than the one we ultimately get. Still if you make it through the first night, the second night gets better. You just gotta have faith.” — David Hinckley, Daily News

Needs More Bowie
“Many great labyrinths exist in pop culture. There’s Jim Henson’s 1986 ...

First ‘Clouds Of Sils Maria’ Trailer Stars Kristen Stewart, Her Butt

by 05/23/14

NSFW clip below

Not long before its big Cannes premiere, the first international trailer for “Clouds of Sils Maria” premiered online. The Olivier Assayas film stars Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart as an aging actress and her possibly manipulative assistant Valentine, respectively.

The trailer highlights more of the sexual tension between Binoche’s and Stewart’s characters than previous plot descriptions had, and we get a pretty… revealing look at what’s going on with Valentine.

“Clouds of Sils Maria” has yet to secure a release date in the states, but that shouldn’t be too far away.

You can listen to “Skyscraper” on repeat and try to hit that high note of “Heart Attack” as you listen on your headphones, but nothing is quite as magical as hearing Demi Lovato sing your favorite tracks live.

Luckily, Spotify has just shared five live tracks from what she called an “intimate show” at London’s Porchester Hall. There were a mere 300 lucky fans in attendance, but now everyone’s invited. That’s right: live versions of “Heart Attack,” “Made in the USA,” “Really Don’t Care,” “Skyscraper” and “Give Your Heart A Break” are all available for you to scream along to.

Lovato, who just recently wrapped up her North American Neon Lights Tour, will return to London on June 1 to perform at Koko.

‘X-Men’ Star Ellen Page Gets Interview-Bombed By Kate Mara

by 05/22/14

By Shaunna Murphy; with reporting by Josh Horowitz

X-Woman Kitty Pryde and invisible lady Sue Storm roll with different crews on the big screen, but the actresses who play them couldn’t be closer in real life. In fact, maybe they’re a little bit too close.

Our recent chat with “X-Men: Days of Future Past” star Ellen Page took a strange turn when it was “sabotaged” by her friend Kate Mara, and it quickly became clear that you should never mention cults, bananas, or the Central Park Reservoir in front of Kitty Pryde.

“I don’t know who you’ve been talking to, but I’m not in a f–king cult, okay?” Page joked. “And it’s not about bananas, and Kate Mara is also not in it.”

We believe you.

You can catch Ellen Page (and no bananas) in “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” when it opens on May 23.

Did Destiny’s Child Just ‘Say Yes’ To A Reunion?

by 05/21/14

By Maurice Bobb

Ok, Destiny’s Child is not officially reunited.

But Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé Knowles did just prove, again, that they still know how to come together for some of that old DC magic Wednesday (May 21) with the release of the very uplifting, “Say Yes!”

The song, which is the lead single for Williams’ upcoming fourth solo album, Journey to Freedom, is a remake of a time-honored Nigerian gospel hymn, “When Jesus Says Yes.”

This ain’t your typical church song, though. The ladies manage to lift up Jesus while singing in perfect harmony over a very catchy, uptempo, and dare I say it, pop beat, with a classic choir chorus: “When Jesus says yes, nobody can say no/ When Jesus says yes, nobody can say no.”

Michelle takes the lead, then passes the baton to Bey, who then lets Kelly sing anchor leg, each singing the phrase, “I’m not worried about a thing, cause I know you are guiding me/where you lead me Lord I will go, I have no fear cause I know who’s in control.”

According to Hot 97’s Miss Info, the triumvirate also shot a video for the record to support Michelle’s new LP, which is slated to arrive later this year.

Everyone In The ‘X-Men’ Cast Wants To Have Sex With Professor X

by 05/21/14

By Josh Horowitz

Maybe it was Jennifer Lawrence walking around naked all the time. Or Hugh Jackman debuting Wolverine’s bare butt when he travels back to the past. Whatever the reason, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” had us pondering weighty questions about sex, love and, yes, death.

So we decided to turn these provocative questions right back on the cast in this decidedly silly and often very illuminating game of “F–k, Marry, Kill.”

To give it a decidedly mutant-y twist, the cast was asked to ponder who among Professor X, Beast, and Wolverine they’d want to, well, you know the game. After some hemming and hawing (Hugh Jackman’s first response: “I’m so getting in trouble for this.”), we were off to the races. In the hot seat were Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage and Nicholas Hoult. Their answers may surprise you. Who knew so many people wanted to bed Charles Xavier?

Robert Pattinson On Surviving Childhood Fame: ‘Get In Therapy’

by 05/21/14

By Shaunna Murphy

Robert Pattinson has some… concerns… when it comes to today’s child stars.

The former “Twilight” hunk told Vanity Fair that Benjie — the bratty, drug-addled teen star at the center of his new film, “Maps to the Stars” — hit a little too close to home.

“I think Benjie is probably the truest character,” Pattinson said during an interview at the Cannes Film Festival. “I’ve met a lot of kids like him… when you see these kids, there is only one way: you either get in therapy now or become a serial killer, or kill yourself. I mean, you can see it really early on — it’s terrifying.”

Terrifying is definitely one way to put it. But before you decide to beef up your home security in case Bella Thorne comes to town, know that Pattinson thinks there’s another way — apparently, taking a few years off after “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” made a huge difference when it came to dealing with the pressures of “Twilight”-level fame.

“I did ‘Harry Potter’ when I was like 17, and nothing really happened after that,” Pattinson continued. “I mean, I made loads of money compared to anyone my age — it was incredible. But I mean, then I just did little TV things afterwards. But I got to live from 18 to 21, you get your own apartment and basically I didn’t star in ‘Twilight’ until 21. It’s different because you’re still young, but you’ve had a life ...

‘The Voice’ Recap: See Who Won Season Six

by 05/21/14

By Emilie Cruz
Weeks of grueling competition came to an end Tuesday night (May 20), as Josh Kaufman was crowned the season-six champion of “The Voice.”

Not only did the soulful singer best his competitors, Team Adam’s Christina Grimmie and Team Blake’s Jake Worthington, to land a recording contract with Universal Music, but Kaufman’s win also marked a first in “Voice” history. Team Usher’s win ended the five-season reign that saw only Levine and Shelton’s artists winning the singing competition.

OneRepublic kicked off the star-studded night with a performance of their newest single “Love Runs Out,” a song that champion Kaufman sang during the competition. Country star Justin Moore hit the stage to sing his hit “Lettin’ the Night Roll” before country all-star Tim McGraw debuted a brand new song called “City Lights.” Then it was Brit invasion as Ed Sheeran jammed out to “Sing,” and Coldplay performed their latest hit “Sky Full of Stars.”

But it wasn’t just about the biggest names in music – no, the big names of tomorrow, also known as the top 20 artists of “The Voice” returned to the stage as well.

For their “Bring Back” performances, Worthington brought back buddies Kat Perkins, Kristen Merlin, Audra McLaughlin, Morgan Wallen, and Ryan Maloney for a fun-in-the-sun performance of Kenny Chesney’s “Summertime,” while Grimmie brought back her BFFs Tess Boyer, Bria Kelly, and Jake Barker for Lorde’s “Team,” and Kaufman assembled the soulful T.J. Perkins, Sisaundra Lewis, and Stevie Jo for Nico and Vinz’s “Am I Wrong?”
