Lil Wayne Goes Absolutely Nuts On ‘D’usse’: Listen Now

by 05/15/14

By Maurice Bobb

Just in time for happy hour, Lil Wayne dropped the full version of “D’usse,” the latest shot glass of sonic heat from his “Weezy Wednesdays” series.

Tunechi let fans have a sip of “D’usse” earlier today with a teaser video that featured him pouring himself some of the Cognac and toasting to unseen companions.

The Lee Majors-produced track begins with a rhythmic piano riff, with the Young Money CEO shouting out Jay Z, the original endorser of the smooth spirit: “This motherf–kin’ D’usse got me sweatin’ and shi–. Word to God. Hov, f–k wit’ ya boy.”

Rumors, of course, spread like wildfire that the track might feature a verse from Jay, but the Roc Nation CEO is nowhere to be found on the song.

No matter. Wayne’s so focused and succinct in his lyrical assault, he doesn’t need any help.

Once he’s in the pocket of the beat, Weezy fires off provocative lines, all drenched in braggadocio and sentimentality: “The world is mine, I am selfish/I am a shark, f–k them shellfish/Everybody in the building, well I left that bitch like Elvis, n—a please, pops treated Moms like Billy Jean/like hot sauce I put that on everything/I’mma give that f–kin’ woman everything, everything.”

The projected Tha Carter V single ends with Wayne shouting out other rappers from his label like Lil Twist.

‘American Idol’ Recap: The Caleb Johnson/Jena Irene Express Won’t Be Derailed

by 05/15/14

By Adam Graham

“American Idol” continued toward its inevitable Caleb Johnson/Jena Irene finale on Wednesday, with each coming off a successful hometown visit and performing three songs apiece. Oh, and not that it mattered, but Alex Preston performed three songs too.

Preston actually scrapped together what was likely his best performance of the season, with a strong-if-unexpected version of Rihanna’s ballad “Stay.” But the Caleb/Jena finish is practically foregone, and is how this “Idol” season has been headed for weeks. Sorry, Alex.

Here’s how Wednesday’s show — “Idol’s” 500th episode — unfolded:

Caleb Battles Voice Troubles
The biggest hurdle Caleb Johnson had to overcome in his road to the finale was his own voice, which he lost after going back to Asheville, North Carolina, over the weekend for his hometown visit. At the open of Wednesday’s show, viewers were told Johnson didn’t sing at all during the show’s rehearsal, and a doctor was trotted out onstage to explain Johnson was battling a bruised vocal chord. The doc compared his performing to a runner racing with a badly bruised ankle.

Johnson’s big wail seemed weakened but not entirely sidelined during his first two songs, INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart” (Randy Jackson’s choice) and Imagine Dragons’ “Demons” (the judges’ choice). But he was able to pull out all the stops for his closer, a reprise of his version of Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused,” which had Jennifer Lopez sensually writhing at the judges’ table. Lopez called it “a true ‘Idol’ moment,” though her reaction is more likely ...

‘Arrow’: All The Biggest Moments On The Season Finale

by 05/14/14

By Ryan Rigley

With Slade Wilson’s army out for blood, Team Arrow must band together with the League of Assassins in an attempt to save Starling City from burning to the ground.

This week’s explosive season finale, entitled “Unthinkable,” sees Oliver Queen faced with an important decision: to kill Slade or not to kill Slade. As Felicity urges him to take the high road, Oliver comes up with a plan to outsmart Slade once and for all.

Here are the biggest highlights from this week’s “Arrow“:

Red Arrow
As Roy Harper finally wakes from his venom-induced coma, Oliver hands him his very own red mask. Now that the Mirakuru has completely left his system, Roy is looking a little less like Arsenal and a lot more like Red Arrow. In fact, this episode marks the first time that we’ve seen Roy successfully taking down enemies with his bow, as opposed to just punching them through a window.

Diggle’s Baby
When Dig and Lyla storm into A.R.G.U.S. headquarters, Amanda Waller reveals that Lyla is pregnant with Dig’s child. How will this affect Dig’s role on Team Arrow? Now that he’s going to be a father, perhaps Diggle will have to bow out of the vigilante business and let Roy Harper have his time to shine.

Passing the Torch
As agreed upon at the beginning of the episode, Sarah leaves Starling City to rejoin the League of Assassins; but not before handing her Canary jacket to her sister, Laurel. Since Laurel now knows Oliver’s secret and has successfully proven ...

Timbaland Compares His Upcoming Album To Dr. Dre’s The Chronic

by 05/14/14

By Maurice Bobb

Timbaland has his priorities.

After getting “emotional” while executive producing Michael Jackson’s much-anticipated posthumous album, XSCAPE, the superproducer revealed the details about his next project: Opera Noir.

Timbo’s fourth studio album was originally titled Textbook Timbo, but, over the course of the last year, the LP evolved after he realized who he was as an artist, what he was comfortable with and what he wanted to do.

“My album is called Opera Noir, ‘black opera,’” Tim told REVOLT. “It’s the truth. It’s just about life in general. My life. My personal life, and I found myself as an artist, as a human being and as a man.”

And while Timothy has had a hand in some of music’s biggest hit albums (Aaliyah’s One in a Million and Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds) and singles (Nelly Furtado’s “Promiscuous” and Jay Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder”), he set the bar pretty high for himself while comparing his upcoming solo set to a certified classic.

“It’s way different,” he said. “It’s more of a sound. It’s Timbaland’s Chronic. Dre have his Chronic, I finally made my Chronic. When it comes out and you see the whole package, you’ll understand why. You’ll get it, you’ll see it, and you’ll be like, ‘Wow, I’ve never seen nothing like this.’”

As for guest features, the “FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt” beat maestro is keeping it pretty simple.

“Me and my new artist, her name is V. Just me and her. And Cee-Lo. That’s it,” he said.

By Maurice Bobb

Rock, a huge fan of hip-hop (he contributed LOLs to Kanye West’s “Blame Game”), is excited he’ll finally get a chance to host on of his favorite award shows.

“I watch the BET Awards every year,” Rock said later in a statement. “It’s one of my favorite award shows combining people from movies, sports, TV and music. Bryan Cranston Wants To Teach You The Godzilla Roar

by 05/14/14

By Josh Horowitz

There are few more iconic sounds associated with the movies than that indelible 60-year-old roar from our favorite mutated lizard creature known as Godzilla. No we’re not impressed with your Darth Vader impression. Pretty much everyone can breathe heavily. But how many can approximate what “Godzilla” star Ken Watanabe delicately describes as a “scream of sadness”?

Leave it Watanabe’s co-star, Bryan Cranston himself to take the lead in educating us the on the art of the Godzilla roar. Of course, the former Mr. Walter White would be able to peer into the dark, tortured soul of our favorite antihero to come up with a step-by-step tutorial. Start practicing, friends. “Godzilla” is everywhere this Friday.

9 Ways Our Lives Would Zuck Without Birthday Boy Mark Zuckerberg

by 05/14/14

By Rachel Paoletta

As of today, Mark Zuckerberg is no longer a twentysomething billionaire – he’s a 30 year-old billionaire. In just 30 years, Zuckerberg has been called a mogul, genius, visionary and Jesse Eisenberg. In honor of his special day, we take a look at the impact he’s had on all of us.

1. He re-branded our lazy hoodie look as “Silicon Valley Chic.”

Mark Zuckerberg

Literally, the golden god of #Normcore.

2. He allowed us to covertly obsess over our crushes…

3. … while we plotted our swift and thorough revenge on high-school bullies.

4. Basically, he gave us a social network to share or express exciting news with our friends/nemeses/exes.

5. He gave us new ways to stay in touch with our families (admittedly a blessing and a curse).

6. And gave us a forum for answering some of life’s toughest questions.

7. He made not being a nerd the new “being a nerd.” He showed us that being smart is sexy (and can make you crazy rich).

The DGAF icon we deserve.

8. He showed us that the best way to be professional is to have a great business card.

He actually did this. And I am impressed.

9. Finally, he taught us to have hope. That no matter how young you are, you can turn your dream into a reality. Or a multi-billion dollar empire.

Mark Zuckerberg

In short,

Happy birthday, Mark. My life would ...

George R. R. Martin’s Computer Is Older Than You

by 05/14/14

By Kat Rosenfield

George R. R. Martin’s fans are already a bunch of excitable literary junkies; his most recent book, “A Dance with Dragons,” was published back in 2011, which means that we’ve all been experiencing Westeros withdrawal for a solid three years with no end in sight.

But now, the sadist author has added a whole new dimension to our anxieties over the whereabouts of “The Winds of Winter”: on an appearance on “Conan” Tuesday night, Martin revealed that while he does own a modern computer with an internet connection, he writes his massive novels on a word processor dating back to the Reagan administration.

“I have my writing computer, which is a DOS machine, not connected to the internet,” the author said. “I use Wordstar 4.0 as my word processing system.”

According to Martin, his ancient DOS computer serves his purposes just fine — and just as important, doesn’t feature a cranky-making talking paperclip or solicitous autocorrecting.

“It does everything I want a word-processing program to do, and it doesn’t do anything else,” he said. “I don’t want any help. I hate some of these modern systems where you type a lowercase letter and it becomes a capital. I don’t want a capital! If I’d wanted a capital, I would have typed a capital! I know how to use the shift key!”

And admittedly, and especially for an author who writes high fantasy novels full of made-up names and places and mythical creatures, that is a reasonable quibble. (Although is this really a ...

‘The Voice’ Recap: See Who’s Going To The Finale

by 05/13/14

By Emilie Cruz

Kat Perkins and Kristen Merlin bid farewell to “The Voice” Tuesday night (May 13) as Christina Grimmie survived the last instant save and earned the third slot in the finale, joining Josh Kaufman and Jake Worthington as finalists.

But before last chance performances that would decide the fate of the top three went down, country kings Rascal Flatts hit the stage to perform their latest hit, “Rewind,” and everyone’s favorite ginger Ed Sheeran stopped by to personally announce that he will perform at next week’s finale.

There was also a mini “Voice” homecoming as season five’s three finalists Jacquie Lee, Will Champlin and winner Tessanne Chin hit the stage with their new singles. Lee debuted the triumphant “Broken Ones,” while Champlin rocked out with his freshly released “Eye of the Pyramid,” and Chin got a standing ovation for her performance of “Everything Reminds Me Of You.”

For her last chance performance, Team Shakira’s Merlin gave a powerful performance of Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away.” Although she gave it her all and got Shelton to admit he has a real “soft spot” for her, the singer was unable to blow away the competition and land a spot in the finale.

Likewise, Team Adam’s rocker Kat Perkins sang Carrie Underwood’s “Good Girl,” getting Usher to compare her to a “vicious cat” that always comes out swinging, but third time was not a charm for the singer who had previously survived two instant saves.

Team Adam’s Christina Grimmie hit the stage with a ...
