We Figured Out The Secret Meaning Of Pharrell’s G I R L Album Title

Pharrell Williams took another step towards ubiquity on Wednesday, announcing the release date for his second solo album, the mysteriously (and emphatically) titled G I R L.

While there's not a whole lot we know about the album — outside of the fact that it will feature his latest smash, "Happy," and, apparently, no rapping — given that his group N.E.R.D. is an acronym for "No one Ever Really Dies," I'm willing to bet this record follows suit: an early guess is that its title stands for "Greatest In Real Life" (because, after the year he's had, Pharrell can basically lay claim to that title).

Of course, that's just one option. Turns out, there are plenty of other acronyms he could choose ... and here are some of my favorites.

"Giraffes In Red Loafers"

"Get It Right, Larry"

"Grizzled Independent Rabbi League"

Really Lucky"

Gosh, It's A "Really Large (Hat)"

"Going Into Railway Law"

"Grandmas In Red Lobster"

"Gradually Ingratiating to Radio Listeners"

"Ginseng Isn't a Reliable Laxative"

"Gorillas In Reclining La-Z-Boys"

"Gonna Impugn 'Royals,' Lorde"

"Grueling Indie R&B Listen"

"Get In, Ralph Lauren"

"Getting In Really Late"

"Girls In Respectful Loungewear ('Blurred Lines, Part II')"

Pharrell Finally ‘Happy’ At #1 On Billboard Chart

Talk about impeccable timing. On the same day he announced the upcoming release of his second solo album, G I R L
, Pharrell Williams will have plenty to celebrate after landing his latest #1 hit. By now you've surely heard the "Despicable Me 2" smash "Happy," and clearly you like it because the song just keeps climbing the charts.

"Happy" To Be Here
After a few weeks of slow rise, the bouncy pop smash "Happy" finally galloped past Katy Perry's "Dark Horse"
to hop into the top spot on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. With sales up 31 percent to 329,000, the song easily took the lead, besting Perry's 277,000. It also snagged #1 on the iTunes chart and gave Skateboard P his first #1 as a lead artist in the nine-year history of the Digital Songs chart.

One of the week's biggest gainers was John Legend's "All of Me," which rose seven spots to #4, as sales grew 46 percent to 164,000. It was also a good week for Bastille, whose "Pompeii" broke into the top five for the first time at #5 (146,000).

"Frozen" And Beyoncé Hit Milestones
It was a big week for a pair of chart mainstays, as the soundtrack to animated smash "Frozen" moved another 100,000 copies to move past the one million mark in it's third month on the charts. Just a few spots behind at #4, Beyoncé's self-titled pop-up album shifted another 48,000 to boost it's 10-week total to 1.75 million, pretty much ensuring that Queen Bey will hit the two ...

6 Reasons Why Katy Perry Probably Got Engaged

Katy Perry showed up to the 2014 Elle Style Awards in London wearing a Vivienne Westwood dress, pointy pumps, and ... wait, hold up... is that an engagement ring?!?

Before she was named the U.K. Woman Of The Year by the mag, the singer strutted the red carpet with a glittery (and enormous), what-seems-to-be diamond ring on her left hand, showing it proudly to hungry photogs. Could this mean that boyfriend John Mayer finally popped the question? MTV News reached out to Katy's rep for confirmation but hadn't heard back by press time.

Here are all the reasons we think that Katy said "yes" (based on a quick poll of the engaged women in the office):

1. She Just Got A Manicure
When you get engaged, you don't just show off your ring right away. Before sharing a snap of your hand on Facebook, ladies usually get manicures first. And it looks like KP is sporting a glossy new shade of lacquer...

2. "I Will Love You Un-con-di-shon-al-lee"
Do I even have to point out the lovey dovey lyrics in her last album, Prism? Everything she sang about — unconditional love, walking on air, legendary lovers — has been preparing us for this moment. What you don't know... John Mayer actually used Juicy J's "Dark Horse" verse to propose.

3. If There's A Mechanical Bull Involved, There's Love Involved
That is an old proverb that I just made up. What I'm referring to is Katy and John's emotionally cheesy "Bound 2" parody "Who You Love" video, ...

Jada Pinkett-Smith Cast On Young Batman Series ‘Gotham’

In the latest, and most high profile casting on FOX's "Jada Pinkett-Smith ("The Matrix" trilogy) has joined the cast in a series regular role as Fish Mooney.

The character, which won't necessarily be known to comics fans because the character (as far as we can tell) is original, is described via press release as:

"A sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner, Fish Mooney's got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she's not one to be crossed."

Pinkett-Smith will be working closely with Robin Lord Taylor, who is playing Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. the young version of the villain The Penguin. Taylor's character is a low-level gangster working for Mooney; and if we're to guess the arc, will probably work his way into Mooney's inner circle before ascending to the crown.

The show focuses on a young Commissioner Gordon (Benjamin McKenzie), starting with the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents and then moving forward to show the development of both Batman, and the villains who define him.

Also cast on the show, which has a series commitment for next season from FOX, are Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, and Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth. Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome") wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer. Danny Cannon ("CSI," "Nikita") will direct and executive produce the pilot.

Stay tuned for more news on "Gotham" as it breaks.

‘American Idol’ Live Shows Begin: Do You Like Its New Look? [Poll]

"American Idol" launched its Rush Week on Tuesday (February 18), putting a brand-new twist on its semifinal round. There have been several tweaks to the "Idol" formula so far this season, but Tuesday's episode marked the biggest departure yet from the "Idol" of old.

In a snazzy new studio, fans packed the floor and grandstand behind the judges (the Coke cups are back, of course). The judges don't enter from center stage, but rather from the side, where they stroll through a gauntlet of fans before taking their seats. These minor changes give the show a fresh feel and an updated look, like a badly needed software upgrade on an aging app.

Of the top 15 women, 10 got to perform and five were cut based on the judges' evaluations of their dress rehearsal performances. To add another twist to the mix, the contestants didn't know which of them would be performing, or when — they learned when everyone else learned, when the judges called their name to come out and hit the stage.

Here are the notable moments from Tuesday's kickoff of "Idol's" Rush Week:

Randy Returns
"American Idol" didn't escape Randy Jackson for long. "The Dawgfather," as he was introduced by Ryan Seacrest, was back on Tuesday, in a relaxed capacity as a mentor for the "Idols."

Jackson was also on hand to introduce "Idol's" team of bandmembers, singing coaches and assorted other personnel, including, the show's first-ever "non-denominational spiritual advisors." Former "Idol" finalists Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry also serve as mentors.

Wait, Was That Harry Styles On Jimmy Fallon’s Second ‘Tonight Show?’

Maybe Jimmy's gonna make it after all. After putting up big numbers on the celebrity-packed
night one of his
tenure — around 11.3 million viewers and a 7.1 rating — Jimmy Fallon hit another pair of homers on Tuesday night with a bit and a song that were further proof that he really is bringing an old-school variety show vibe to his new gig.

Harry Styles Looks Weird
One of the night's biggest laughs came when Fallon introduced surprise guest Harry Styles of One Direction. Okay, it was totally not Harry, but old "Saturday Night Live" pal Kristen Wiig in a slim black suit, V-neck t-shirt, pointy boots and a swirly head wig.

And, for a minute, she seemed to forget she was Harry, because she just totally bailed on her English accent. "You're accent is different in person, I thought you'd have more of an accent," he told Harry/Kristen. "Oh," Wiig replied.

So, about a minute in, she dropped into the accent, and then immediately out of it as she, very poorly, recalled how One Direction formed. "I have to use two hair dryers at the same," he/she then explained about how his/her famous hairdo came together.

Fallon then hit the fake Harry with the "Rapid Fire Round" and here's what we found out about the British heartthrob: Favorite food: carnitas Favorite color: green Favorite animal: giraffe Favorite movie: "Star Wars" Favorite actor: Denzel Washington Favorite snowboarding trick: The Half-Kicker (totally not a thing)

For the record, as opposed to what Wiig said, 1D were not discovered after sending a cassette ...

Pharrell’s Upcoming Solo Album Is All About A G I R L

Pharrell Williams is about to make a lot of people very "Happy." The superstar producer and hook master announced that he's releasing his second solo album, G I R L, on March 3.

According to the iTunes preview page for the album, it will feature 10 songs, including the "Despicable Me 2" soundtrack smash "Happy," which hit #1 on iTunes and could be headed to #1
on the Billboard Digital Songs chart this week.

No other song titles are currently listed. A trailer for the album shows the producer in the studio with an orchestra clearly enjoying the creative process and, at the end, shedding a tear at the awesomeness he's created.

"When Columbia Records presented me with the opportunity to make an album, three things came to mind," Pharrell said in a statement about the album. "One was the sense of overwhelming honor that I felt when I realized that they were interested in partnering with me on the album that I had always dreamt of making. Two, it would have to feel festive and urgent. And three, I instantly knew it would be called G I R L. I hope you like it."

Pharrell's solo debut, In My Mind, was released in 2006 and it featured the single "Can I Have It Like That" with Gwen Stefani and "Number One" with Kanye West. Because he's Skateboard P, he, of course, also roped in a bunch of other stars to appear on that one, including Snoop Dogg and Charlie Wilson, Pusha T, Nelly and Slim Thug.

He released a Neptunes ...
