‘Heaven Is For Real’: The Reviews Are In

This Easter weekend, the based-on-a-true-story movie "Heaven Is for Real" opens in theaters across the country. As the title would imply, and just like the novel and children's book of the same titles, the story focuses on a young boy (Connor Corum) who comes out of emergency surgery claiming that he took a side-trip through heaven and met Jesus (on a multi-colored horse, no less). Greg Kinnear plays his preacher father who must decide how far to spread his son's story in the face of doubters.

The film has a clearly Christian bent to it, but critics say that mainstream audiences could also give the film a shot, praising its production values and fairness to other viewpoints. Read excerpts of reviews from top critics below.

There Are Some Laughs
"This push-and-pull represents the best of 'Heaven Is For Real,' which also has some humorous moments, many coming from Thomas Haden Church as the town banker who can always be relied on for a deadpan remark or two. Wallace — who uses a bright blue palette throughout the film, the better to reflect the preternaturally blue eyes of Connor Corum, who plays Colton — sets up enough events leading to the youngster's experience that alternative explanations are readily available. Once or twice the director succumbs to facile logic and on-the-nose sentimentality, especially in Colton's childish cotton-cloud recollections. But then again, he is a child, and the kitschy staging serves to reinforce the essential tensions that propel the film." — Ann Hornaday, Washington Post

‘Maleficent’: Angelina Jolie Explores The Disney Villain’s ‘Legacy’

Everyone knows the story of Sleeping Beauty — but what happened before her story was told?

That's the key question at the heart of the new Disney movie directed by Richard Stromberg and starring Angelina Jolie as the horned, demon-eyed sorceress. In "Maleficent," the legendary villain gets a new lease on life, through a retelling of the classic fairy tale that shows a softer, more sympathetic side of Sleeping Beauty's "nemesis."

"It's the classic story of Sleeping Beauty, plus so much more," says Elle Fanning in a new "Maleficent" behind-the-scenes featurette, exploring the true "legacy" of Maleficent. Fanning stars in the film as the sleeping princess Aurora, who has a different relationship with Maleficent than the 1959 Disney animated classic led viewers to believe.

"I always felt when I watched the animated movie that I wasn't super-scared when I watched her," she says. "I was always sort of intrigued with her."

Indeed, in revisiting "Sleeping Beauty," screenwriter Linda Woolverton was equally intrigued by Maleficent's untold story.

"I watched the movie and came up with some ideas that revealed more about the character," she says. "I created a past for her that leads to the moment in which she curses Aurora, and then takes us past that moment from Maleficent's point of view. It's a reinvention, not just a retelling of the story."

"We respected the classic," adds Jolie. "We've tried to bring you what you love about this story. We also hope to bring you a world you've never seen before. It's a very beautiful story, and I think it's very ...

"Shut the f--- up & let me heal," she wrote on Thursday, seemingly in response to the rampant speculation on her health and what landed her in a hospital earlier this week. "So many ignorant stories out there no one is reading the official statement and these dumb asses are scaring my fans."

Cyrus has been forced to postpone two shows
this week as a result of what a note she posted describe as an
to an antibiotic prescribed to treat a sinus infection. "This type of extreme reaction can last from five to 27 days in these types of cases," read the statement. "She will remain hospitalized and is under a doctor's care until we see some improvement in her condition."

Johnny Depp Thinks The Technology In ‘Transcendence’ Is ‘Very Close To Being A Reality’

Could we see the events of "Johnny Depp, that kind of tech isn't too far off.

"When you look at it, it's kind of a sci-fi thing," Depp told MTV News. "But when you dig a little bit deeper, the technology that we use in the film and the technology is very close to being a reality."

In the film, Johnny Depp plays Will Caster, a leading artificial intelligence researcher whose intelligence is uploaded to the very machine he's spent his life creating.

Directed by Christopher Nolan's cinematographer Wally Pfister, making his directorial debut, it explores age-old questions about the conflict between our need to create, and how far is too far for our technological ambitions to reach.

So should we start worrying about cold-blooded supercomputers? Is the "Terminator" series' Skynet on the way? The film also features a violent clash between Will's new silicon consciousness and a group of radical anti-A.I. activists — one of whom puts a bullet in Depp's character, setting the story in motion.

But Depp seems a little more optimistic about how this may all turn out in real life.

"[Transcendence] is a foretelling of what's to come," Depp said. "Not necessarily the outcome of the film, but we have the technology to upload human consciousness and they're just fine-tuning "

Transcendence is in theaters April 18.

Clint Eastwood’s ‘Jersey Boys’ Trailer: Watch Now

With only two months to go before it hits theaters, the upcoming musical has belted out its first official trailer.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker and Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood, "Jersey Boys" tells the equally legendary story of 1960s rock vocalist band The Four Seasons, led by Frankie Valli. It's an adaptation of the Broadway hit of the same name, and based on the first trailer, the all-music all-the-time vibe remains very much in place.

The trailer spends equal amounts of time establishing the sound of the film, while also showing a healthy amount of story. As the trailer begins, it promises that everything "started with a sound that became a sensation — but every legend has a beginning."

We see those beginnings as the four members of the Four Seasons come together: John Lloyd Young as lead singer Frankie Valli, Erich Bergen as keyboardist Bob Gaudio, Vincent Piazza as lead guitarist Tommy DeVito and Michael Lomenada as bassist Nick Massi. Don't look away, and you'll even catch a Christopher Walken sighting; he plays gangster Angelo "Gyp" DeCarlo.

Several of the Four Seasons' greatest hits can be heard throughout the trailer, including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" and "Who Loves You." There will be even more classics when "Jersey Boys" bows in theaters on June 20.

What do you think of the first "Jersey Boys" trailer?

Watch Future And Kanye West Hit The Beach In ‘I Won’ Video

Earlier this month, Future described what the video for "I Won," his Kanye West-assisted single, would look like.

"We on the water, on the beach, and it's beautiful women," the the Atlanta rapper told Hot 97's Angie Martinez in March.

Yup. That sounds about right.

Filmed primarily in black and white, the visuals for the Honest cut flip back and forth between shots of the rappers standing alone on the beach and close-ups of women rolling around in the sand.

"We made [them] look like the old Hype Williams' video girls," Future said. "You know when video girls were stars back then. Video vixens, you really got them from the Hype Williams videos."

Williams, one of the most famed hip-hop video directors of all-time, has a resume that boasts everything from 2Pac and Dr. Dre's 1995 "California Love," to Beyonce and Jay Z's recent "Drunk in Love."

Future and Yeezy never interact in the video. Instead, they each get their own sections. The majority of screen time, of course, belongs to the ATLien, who both sings the chorus and raps the first verse. 'Ye then appears in the video's second half, to spit his verse swooning over Kim Kardashian.

It's been a buzz-building day for Future, whose sophomore disc drops in less than a week. In addition to the "I Won" video, the audio for another of his big-name collabs, , hit the Web.

Ariana Grande Teams With Iggy Azalea For ‘Problems’: See The Cover Art

The Arianators have spoken. Last week, Ariana Grande took to Instagram to choose between two possible black-and-white images for her upcoming "Problems" single cover art.

After the votes were tallied, the "Baby I" singer revealed the winning image via IG with the hashtag #10daystilproblem, and revealed that Iggy Azalea will be assisting her on the track.

The winner, of course, was the more seductive image of the pair, which shows Grande leaning back in a foldout chair, dressed in a black camisole, white thigh-highs and metal-tipped stilettos. The sultry singer is also shown flipping through her hair while looking directly into the camera with her best "come hither" look.

The losing image was more of an artistic take, featuring a close-up of Grande's face shadowed by a pinwheel light.

"Problems" will likely be the lead single from Grande's yet-untitled sophomore album. Earlier this week, Chris Brown released a dance teaser their long-simmering duet,

The club-ready track was slated to come out in March, but it was delayed because of Brown's legal problems -- he was arrested in March for violating his probation and beings trial on April 21 in a D.C. assault case.

Nas Makes First Signing On New Label

With the recent release of Illmatic XX, Wednesday's premiere of his , and the impending 20-year anniversary of his debut album, Nas has been celebrating the past a lot of late. But now, he's looking to the future.

On Thursday (April 17) it was announced God's Son had signed Detroit rapper Boldy James to the recently launched Mass Appeal label, according to Fake Shore Drive.

Last year, Nas invested in Mass Appeal, where he became Associate Publisher of the magazine. "I always liked what they represented," he told Forbes in April 2013. "They invested into the culture ... I saw their vision for what they planned and I thought I could add value across the board."

In January, Nas tweeted about the rapper:

Then, last month in Texas, the Queens native brought Boldy out at the SXSW Mass Appeal showcase. Rumors were floating that he was aligning himself with James in some fashion, but that only became official on Thursday.

James released his debut album, My 1st Chemistry Set, produced entirely by the Alchemist, in October. He has also had a relationship with MC Serch, who helped Nas secure his first recording contract, in the early 1990s, at Columbia.

"Mass Appeal has a legacy and respect," Nas told Forbes. "It already has a foundation ... I just feel like I can add on because I can lend my kind of cultural expertise and my professional acumen, and develop the business."
