Hey Kendrick Lamar, Disclosure Have Their Eyes On You

With the release of their wildly successful debut Settle, 2013 has been a big year for British electronic duo Disclosure — and now it's getting even bigger with the news that they are officially on MTV's list of Artists to Watch.

Brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence are known for bringing together strong musicians like Jessie Ware and Sam Smith. But for their next album, they want to tackle a new genre: hip-hop.

Currently on tour with Vic Mensa, the Lawrence brothers are already getting a daily dose of rap. But who would be their dream collaboration? "One of the greatest rappers of all time," Kendrick Lamar.

"He's so incredible. But also, the album that he just put out is so musical," Howard told MTV News. Coincidentally, that was a popular word to describe Settle, especially in comparison to other bodies of electronic music, which would make Kendrick the perfect hip-hop compliment to their style. "I hear so much Outkast and Andre when I hear Kendrick... the speed of his rapping and how it's all in harmony, it's not just talking. He'll rap so fast but it'll be like a chord. It's got that attention to detail that's kind of lacking in, not just in hip-hop, just in a lot of music nowadays."

Besides Vic Mensa and Kendrick Lamar, Disclosure is also interested in linking up with A$AP Rocky, Joey Badass and Bishop Nehru. "There's so much great hip-hop from the moment, especially coming from the states," Guy explained. "This is the most excited we've been about hip-hop."

And while they have ...

One Direction Release Teaser Of Next Single! Listen Now!

One Direction fans got a bit of a surprise on Monday (October 21) when they were treated to a sneak peek of the band's upcoming single,

The fivesome gave fans a 16-second teaser of the track, but as with the release of the track list off their upcoming album Midnight Memories, they put fans up to a challenge.

Directioners were given the task of getting four One Direction phrases to trend on Twitter (one was #Storyofmylife16secClip), and, not surprisingly, it didn't take long before fans were rewarded with a short snippet of the single.

The track, upon first listen, is much different from its predecessor, the upbeat single "Best Song Ever." In the clip, the mid-tempo song keeps with the retro-rock vibe they are going for, opening with a guitar hook, possibly played by Niall Horan (who, on Twitter,

said this track was his favorite song), before incorporating big drums as the bandmembers belt out the lyrics in unison.

"The story of my life I give her hope/ I spend her love until she's broke inside/ The story of my life," the guys sing on the track.

Fans instantly took to Twitter with their reactions to the song, with Directioners calling the track "beautiful" and "perfect."

Fans won't have to wait too long to hear the entire song, since they can hear the first complete play of the track on Friday, three days before its official release on October 28.

In addition to the single snippet, One Direction, who will celebrate their album release ...

Katy Perry’s Prism: Waking Up From The Teenage Dream

Though it inspired a film that grossed more than $32 million, sold nearly 5.5 million copies and spawned 5 chart-topping singles , the sum of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream can best be described in one lyric, taken from the title track: "You and I/We'll be young forever."

The optimism of new love, the invincibility of immaturity, the confidence that comes with throwing caution to the wind ... it's all there, in that one line, and throughout the entirety of the album, really. And those sentiments clearly resonated with the record-buying public, who rescued Perry from one-hit wonder purgatory and turned her into a global superstar. It's not exactly a stretch to call her the most unlikely success story of the decade.

But here's the thing: Inevitably, time marches on. Lovers let you down. Relationships decay. And that invincibility now feels more like naiveté. Katy Perry realizes all of that now; she is older, wiser, tougher. Or at least that's the takeaway from Prism, an album that trades visceral thrills for verity, conflates sexuality with spirituality, and dispenses with immediacy in favor of intimacy. Those things certainly don't make for a pure-pop experience on par with Teenage Dream, but they do paint a portrait of an artist in the midst of a rather dramatic career reinvention.

To wit, there are large portions of Prism where Perry reimagines herself as an Inspirational Icon, purveying her personal struggles in the hopes of maximum uplift. We all know about first single a self-empowerment anthem on overdrive, but there's also the ...

’12 Years A Slave’: Is Chiwetel Ejiofor Ready For Oscar Glory?

During the course of shooting the upcoming historical drama "12 Years a Slave," British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor had to effectively portray the transformation from a free family man living in upstate New York to a man physically and spiritually beaten down by years of slavery on Louisiana plantations. This was the journey of Solomon Northup, whose incredible story is the basis for Steve McQueen's new movie.

Ejiofor told MTV News that the physical demands of the shoot were difficult, but they brought him closer to the character. "I was very keen with Steve to feel some of the physical stuff as well, to not just be kind of padded to within an inch of my life or something. I wanted to be part of it and to know some of it, just as a key into what Solomon's experience was — to try and uncover a tiny fraction of this experience."

The psychological aspect of Ejiofor's portrayal was just as challenging, if not more so. "Solomon Northup is a man who starts off in the story thinking that he's in a battle for his freedom, and he realizes at some point that he's actually in a battle for his mind," the actor said. He described Northup as "a man really grappling to the depths of his soul to keep himself intact."

Ejiofor said that it was a privilege to play Northup, and it's very likely that his efforts will be acknowledged come Oscar time. When he spoke with MTV News, "12 Years a Slave" had screened at some festivals and was already garnering ...

Kanye West Postpones Yeezus: Could His Elaborate Set Be To Blame?

While Kanye West hit a roadblock Saturday during opening night of his Yeezus Tour in Seattle, Sunday's second stop in Vancouver has been halted completely.

West has already rescheduled Sunday's date to October 31, but he still left a bunch of disappointed fans who were expecting to see the star rapper and a much-hyped appearance by Jesus Christ — or rather an actor playing the biblical figure.

There is no official word on why the show was cancelled, but on Saturday, Kanye's concert was delayed approximately two hours as ticket holders were left outside of Seattle's KeyArena until doors were opened at around 9 p.m. A security guard on site told MTV News that the stage set-up took longer than expected and that was the reason for the delay. Def Jam, Kanye's record label, has yet to respond.

Kanye's Yeezus stage is rather elaborate. When we saw Saturday's set-up, it was anchored by a giant mountain, the performance space stretched out approximately 50 feet into a sea of standing fans on the KeyArena floor. During his two-hour show, West would use the entire stage, performing some songs on the mountain and others on the extended cliff-like stage.

Yeezy wasn't the only rap star to kick-off a tour and then postpone a date this weekend. Drake started his Would You Like a Tour? Tour on Friday in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but had to cancel his Saturday date at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia due to an "unexpected technical issue."

Drizzy has since set a make-up date for December 18, while ...

Chloe Grace Moretz: Don’t Make Her Choose Between Britney Spears And Rihanna

As a telekinetic teen in Kimberly Peirce's remake of the classic 1976 horror film star Chloë Grace Moretz faces her fair share of struggles (not even a battalion of Martha Stewarts could make Carrie's blood-spattered prom dress look new). But her wardrobe woes pale in comparison to the task presented to Moretz during the latest episode of After Hours. Namely, choosing between pop starlets Britney Spears and Rihanna.

But let's step back for a moment. MTV News' Josh Horowitz sat down with the 16-year-old actress for a round of "This or That?" which started off easily enough. Moretz prefers Miley Cyrus over Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling over Justin Timberlake, and One Direction over the Wanted. ("I really like the Wanted's music, but I like the affect of 1D a little bit better," she said by way of explanation.)

After a bit of lusting over Chris Hemsworth and a debate regarding the merits of first-person versus third-person video games, Horowitz finally asked the question that left Moretz stumped (and her entourage gasping and giggling): Britney Spears or Rihanna?

"That's really hard!" Moretz exclaimed.

"Britney's had better albums," she continued, with a grimace. "I'm sorry! I love you, Rihanna. Please don't be mad at me! I love you. I am one of her Navy! I am with Rihanna."

Sorry, Chloë. You can only be drafted once, and you've made your decision! Time to work, bitch.

"Carrie" is in theaters now.

‘Batman vs. Superman’: Watch Video From The First Day Of Filming

Did you catch the big game over the weekend? The one between Gotham City University and Metropolis State University? The rivals faced each other for all of two plays at East Los Angeles College as production kicked off early for "Batman vs. Superman."

The Zack Synder production took over the field Saturday during halftime, and fans in attendance got their very own costume change. Since it was a home game for Gotham, the stadium was decked out in yellow and black with fans wearing team T-shirts and hoodies.

A four-minute video of the action hit YouTube earlier, courtesy of SadPuppy Productions, who cheered on Gotham City over the course of two plays. During the second play — a touchdown for Metropolis — a small fight breaks out, perhaps teasing some bad blood between the two superhero hometowns.

It may also be noteworthy that one of the people leading the production and giving direction to the fans referred to the movie as "Batman vs. Superman." While that title has yet to be confirmed, it has quickly become the very common placeholder for a final, official title. It's not clear at this point whether that will end up being the name of the "Man of Steel" sequel, but it certainly does drive the point home.

Neither Henry Cavill nor Ben Affleck appeared to have been at the game.

Production on "Batman vs. Superman" was supposedly not to start until early next year, but as David S. Goyer hinted before, production is indeed farther along than we had known.

"Batman vs. Superman" is scheduled to hit theaters ...

‘Carrie,’ Cumberbatch, Schwarzenegger Feel The Weight Of ‘Gravity’

"

Box-office watchers predicted a close race between "Gravity" and "Carrie," but the horror flick came up short. Sandra Bullock's sci-fi hit grabbed another $31 million for a 17-day total of $170.6 million, making it the 10th biggest movie of the year. The remake of the 1976 horror hit, featuring a script more faithful to Stephen King's novel, opened at #3 with $17 million. Reviews were mixed for "Carrie," even with breakout "Kick-Ass" star Chloë Grace Moretz in the title role of the bullied teenager who manifests telekinetic powers.

Sticking Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger together proved to be more lucrative than either of the action-movie legends' respective solo outings from earlier this year, but nevertheless, "Escape Plan" fell short of "Expendables"-sized business. The duo's prison movie took in $9.8 million during its opening weekend, which was a better start than Stallone's "Bullet to the Head" or Arnold's "The Last Stand." Production is already underway on "The Expendables 3," of course, which is due in theaters August 15, 2014.

Julian Assange hasn't hidden his distaste for "The Fifth Estate," which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the beleaguered Wikileaks founder, which means he's probably celebrating the movie's terrible numbers. "The Fifth Estate" took the "worst opening of the year" crown from Liam Hemsworth's bomb, "Paranoia." With just $1.7 million, "The Fifth Estate" had the lowest debut of 2013 for any movie opening in more than 1,500 locations.

Cumberbatch is part of the ensemble for "12 Years a Slave," so the news wasn't all bad for him over the weekend. The likely Oscar contender ...
