Selena Gomez Snaps Selfies With Fans After Letterman: See Her Performance Too!

Selena Gomez performed on Thursday night's "Late Show with David Letterman," and all she wanted to do was make it all

The 21-year-old appeared on the late-night staple in between dates on her Stars Dance Tour. She took the stage in a midriff-baring black top paired with a double-slit skirt and heated up the talk show with her sensual dance single. Letterman teased her, saying the sexy performance gave him chest pains.

Gomez didn't just hang out with Letterman during her time in the Big Apple. The singer also chilled with the Selenators who waited outside the show's studio to catch a glimpse of the pop star and posed for pictures.

The night before she appeared on Letterman's show, she promised her fans she'd take some time to greet them, after sharing that she wasn't allowed to Instagram from her show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

E! Online reported that Gomez got teary-eyed during the gig, supposedly during the breakup track "Love Will Remember," but she later explained that she got upset because she couldn't use the social media site. It remains unclear why she couldn't Instagram during the show.

She said, "Never ended such a beautiful show in tears because they wouldn't allow me to Instagram tonight. Completely heart broken and pissed."

Gomez is back on the road Friday night (October 18), when she will take the stage at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Her massive Stars Dance Tour will continue through December 14, when it wraps up at Boston's TD Garden.

’12 Years A Slave’: The Reviews Are In!

If there was ever any doubt whether a British director and a cast headed by British (and German-Irish) actors could make a quality film about a pivotal period in American history, should put that to rest. Critics are lauding Steve McQueen's film, which is based on Solomon Northup's account of his experiences as a free black man who was kidnapped into slavery in 1841.

Much of the praise is directed toward Chiwetel Ejiofor as Northup and Michael Fassbender as demonic slave owner Edwin Epps. This is Fassbender's third go-round with McQueen (they worked together on "Hunger" and "Shame"), and the director is also getting favorable reviews for his unflinching treatment of a difficult subject.

Here's a sampling of what critics are saying about "12 Years a Slave."

The Star
"As Solomon, Ejiofor gives an electrifying, engulfing performance that will be talked about for years. The educated Solomon is forbidden to protest his situation or even articulate it. Not without being beaten or worse. But Ejiofor's eyes, deep pools of confusion, pain and barely repressed rage, tell us all we need to know. Want proof that acting can be an art form? Here it is." — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

The Tormentor
"Proving yet again why he's one of the most exciting actors working today, Fassbender transforms his character into a compelling human monster — a figure for whom malice and affection are intrinsically entwined, as they were for Ralph Fiennes' terrifying Nazi commandant in Schindler's List." — A.A. Dowd, A.V. Club

The Director
"McQueen's images have considerable power, and I'd watch his ...

Miley Bangz Out Best Female Debut Of The Year, But Who’s Next?

Earlier this week, Miley Cyrus' Bangerz bowed at #1 on the Billboard albums chart, with sales of more than 270,000 copies.

That number wasn't enough to overtake 2013's biggest sellers — Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience, Drake's Nothing Was The Same, Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail, etc. — though it did give Miley the best first week of any female artist this year. Then again, it's not like she's had a ton of competition.

As Billboard reports, before Bangerz's debut, it was Ariana Grande who held the mark for the year's biggest debut for a female artist, selling 138,000 copies of Yours Truly back in September.

In fact, aside from Cyrus and Grande, only three other female solo artists have debuted with six-figure sales this year: Lorde, whose Pure Heroine sold 129,000 copies in late September, Tamar Braxton, who moved more than 114,000 copies of Love & War on the same week Grande's Yours Truly debuted, and Demi Lovato, who sold more than 110,000 copies of her Demi album back in May.

Selena Gomez just missed the mark, selling 97,000 copies of Stars Dance in July, and Fantasia came close with Side Effects of You, which sold 91,000 copies in May.

In short, Miley has crushed all comers ... though we suspect her reign as the year's best-selling female might not last all that long: After all, Katy Perry's Prism hits stores on Tuesday, and Lady Gaga's ARTPOP follows soon after. Oh, and then there's the much-discussed Beyoncé album, which is ...

Can ‘Carrie’ Bring Down ‘Gravity’ This Weekend?

Neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor the team of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone stand a chance of bringing down "

"Carrie" is the only new movie with any hope of dethroning "

The Stallone/Schwarzenegger prison movie team-up "Escape Plan" arrives in theaters this weekend, alongside "The Fifth Estate," a movie version of the story Wikileaks and its controversial leader, Julian Assange, played by Cumberbatch.

Reviews haven't been too great for "Escape Plan," "The Fifth Estate" or the The second cinematic adaptation of Stephen King's novel is much closer to the book than director Brian De Palma's film. For example, the cruel scene where the famous pig's blood poured on Carrie at the prom is obtained gets its first interpretation on film. The sympathetic gym teacher's name is switched back to the one she had in the book. There are modern touches as well, such as the inclusion of PDAs and social media.

Chloë Grace Moretz, 16, is no stranger to adaptations of course, having starred as Hit-Girl in both "Kick-Ass" movies as well as taking on the role of Abby in "Let Me In," the English-language adaptation of Sweden's "Let the Right One In."

"Gravity" has already given Sandra Bullock and George Clooney their biggest opening weekend of their careers and topped the box office two weekends in a row. It boasts a staggeringly strong 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, which aggregates reviews from film critics. If "Carrie" performs closer to the conservative $20 million studio prediction, a third #1 should be a cinch for "Gravity."

"Escape Plan" looks to be the ...

‘The Fifth Estate’: What Critics Are Saying About Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch has become identified as one of the most beloved and respected actors working today in an absurdly short amount of time, and this weekend, he gets his first shot at supporting a weighty real-life drama, the WikiLeaks film "The Fifth Estate."

Critics are generally split on the effectiveness of the film in portraying the ripped-from-the-headlines story, but Cumberbatch is receiving praise for his mannered performance as the eccentric Julian Assange. To get a better idea of how his work is being reviewed, here's a round up of critical reactions to "The Fifth Estate":

"Cumberbatch, in stringy long white-blonde hair that looks a bit too much like the wig it is, does a commanding impersonation of Assange's imperiousness, his whole louche Continental narcissism. His Julian is handsome in a scowling way, with a pout of aggrievement fixed on his soft, pale, babyish features, and the actor lowers his voice to a slightly slurry bass register, as if he were so full of venom that it had depressed him." — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"Given the talents of Cumberbatch and Brühl, whose credits include 'Good Bye, Lenin,' 'Inglourious Basterds' and the current 'Rush,' it is no surprise that the interplay between Assange and Domscheit-Berg, the way their relationship shifted from engaged collaborators to enraged antagonists, is the film's greatest strength. ... Obsessed and arrogant, committed and charismatic, Assange is certainly a complicated, compelling character, and Cumberbatch does a convincing job of creating a lone wolf provocateur who speaks in slogans like 'change is contagious' and never doubts he is ...

‘Carrie’: How They Remade The Iconic Blood Scene

Even if you've never seen the original "

That's the setup to Brian De Palma's "Carrie" (1976) — and the original Stephen King novel — largely reproduced in Kimberly Peirce's gorier, higher-octane starring Chloë Grace Moretz, out in theaters Friday (October 18).

It's not a spoiler to say the blood drop occurs: It would be odd for Carrie's journey not to reach that point, as written in King's novel. But its dynamics are somewhat different than the original incarnation (or the made-for-TV version starring Angela Bettis). Peirce's camera lingers on the slow spill of the blood, stretching out the moment to an almost-torturous length before it hits Carrie's shoulders. And when it does, we all know what's coming next for Carrie and her classmates.

"I'm definitely playing Carrie now, because I'm covered in blood, I'm freezing cold, and I'm uncomfortable," Moretz said in a recent interview with MTV News. The actress, who just came off a second stint as Hit-Girl Mindy Macready in "Kick-Ass 2," offers a take on Carrie that is a bit different from the version seen in the original: She's more proactive and more curious, she explained.

"Boys Don't Cry" and "Stop Loss" director Peirce told us the biggest challenge about remaking "Carrie," was taking "something this great, and this timely and this timeless and ahead of its time" and bringing it to life for a new generation.

Peirce's approach to the material is decidedly more kinetic than the original, a little more "X-Men" than horror fans might expect, with Carrie's abilities manifesting themselves in increasingly elaborate (and, later, ...
