Nirvana Lead Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees List

If ever there was a band that is practically a shoo-in
to make it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year it is Nirvana.

The legendary grunge trio led by late singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain blew up the rock and roll world in the early 1990s, becoming one of the most important bands of their, or any other, era.

So it makes sense that they are among the first-time nominees for 2014 induction into the hall, for which artists become eligible 25 years after the release of their debut single or album. They join a list of veteran acts who are also up for the honor for the first time, including former Genesis leader and solo star Peter Gabriel, "You're No Good" singer Linda Ronstadt, prog rock icons Yes and rock and soul duo Hall & Oates.

Despite releasing just three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana stand as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era thanks to landmark hits such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their 1991 breakthrough album, Nevermind. Led by intense frontman Cobain, the group led a charge of loud, fuzzed-out bands from the northwest who took back the mantle of rock and roll, introducing a bit of creative chaos into a staid music scene.

Also making the list were notoriously shambolic 1980s Minneapolis rock band the Replacements, who released a string of classic albums including Let It Be and Pleased to Meet Me, but never scored the commercial success they seemed destined for.

‘Chinese Food’ Has Us Hungry For More Alison Gold

You already hung with your friends on
got "Happy" on Saturday and "Tuesday" and stuffed yourself with "It's Thanksgiving."

But clearly there was room left, because in the first 24 hours since the latest viral insta-hit form PMW Live (formerly known as Ark Music Factory) was posted on YouTube, more than one million people have shared singer Alison Gold's hunger for "Chinese Food."

The fried rice-honoring tune, which Time magazine has instantly labeled the "worst song of the year," (putting it a step below Rebecca Black's "Friday," which was dubbed by some the "worst song ever") is another classic bare-bones production from the man behind both hits, songwriter/rapper Patrice Wilson. With five times as many dislikes (23,646) as likes (5,475) at press time to go along with its nearly 1.5 million views, "Food" ups the usual absurdity angle of Wilson productions to 11 by including subtitles in constantly shift languages, creepy grown man/young girl pillow fights, shout outs to Panda Express and an intense attachment to "chow-m-m-m-m mein."

In case you haven't gotten the craving yet, here are the five weirdest moments from "Chinese Food":

Double Rainbow Of Noodles
The first face you see in "Food" is not Gold's, but an anonymous chef flipping noodles and speaking in Mandarin while conjuring up a rainbow of awesomeness that turns into Gold. Though only 13, Gold informs us that "After balling, I go clubbing/Then I'm hugging, then I'm hungry." Okay, wait, what 13 year old can get into clubs?

Lyrics, They're Just Like Real Life!

Eminem’s ‘Rap God’ Decoded: What He’s Really Saying On Venomous Track

Eminem has clearly evolved from the quick-witted, soul-crushing battle rapper who first caught the attention of Dr. Dre in the late 1990s, but old habits are hard to break. Monday's release of proves that no matter how many radio-busting chart-toppers Marshall 2.0 can churn out ("Not Afraid," "Love the Way You Lie"), Em just loves to rhyme.

Slim spews non-stop venom over the DVLP-produced track, which will appear on his upcoming November 5 album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and while it is hard to pick a favorite things about the song there were a number of moments that stood out.

Em's Reference To Bill Clinton And Monica Lewinsky
The reference is dated, but that's the point: Em uses the 1998 Lewinsky scandal to illustrate just how long he's been a dominate force in rap — he dropped his multiplatinum debut The Slim Shady LP a year later in 1999. "Gotta fat knot from that rap profit/ Made a living and a killing off it/Ever since Bill Clinton was still in office/ With Monica Lewinsky feeling on his nutsack," he raps at a ridiculous pace.

Lakim Shabazz Gets A Shout-Out
Marshall is often regarded as a top influencer for new MCs, but it's always cool to hear Em shout out those who came before him. Of course Dr. Dre and N.W.A. get mentioned, as does Tupac, Rakim, Pharoahe Monch and Run-DMC, but it was cool that the Detroit Rap God gives props to Lakim Shabazz, who got his start rapping alongside Queen Latifah in the Flavor Unit crew.

Censorship Sucks
