Lorde’s ‘Royals’ May Be #1, But She’s Still ‘Just A Disgusting Person’

How did Lorde celebrate becoming the youngest artist in a quarter century to have the #1 song on Billboard's Hot 100? Pretty much exactly how you'd expect her to.

"I went to see Phoenix last night at Barclays Center," she said. "And then I went home and went to bed."

That's fitting, considering the anti-affluence sentiments of her hit the rare pop song that dares to address the vapidity of the genre itself. Which is why its success is somewhat shocking: neither the track, nor the 16-year-old who sings it, seem to fit within the shiny confines of the Top 10, a rarefied sphere populated by the likes of Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus. And that's perfectly fine with Lorde.

"It's hard for me to think about it, because those people are huge stars, but I don't think of myself as such. Like, I know for fact that my hotel room is super messy, and I'm just a disgusting person in general," she laughed. "I'm not like 'Oooh, look at me!' You feel like those people are godlike beings, not the case with this cat."

Still, at the same time, she's not about to downplay the fact that she's managed to conquer the pop world ("I'm definitely not freaked out," she said. "Why should I be?") and done so on her terms. If anything, the success of "Royals" has only emboldened her: Now that she's got a hit, she's determined to prove that it wasn't a fluke.

"I'm super focused on making new music at the moment, and that's ...

‘Miley: The Movement’: 9 Miley Moments To See Again (And Again)

It may be hard to guess what life has been like for Miley Cyrus during these whirlwind few months, but after watching her MTV documentary, "Miley: The Movement," fans are now getting a whole new perspective.

Viewers were invited along for the ride on Wednesday night as Miley began her movement — from the release day of "We Can't Stop" to twerking onstage at the VMAs.

Here are the nine moments we'll be watching over and over again from "Miley: The Movement."

Miley Could Have Been In Paramore?

Miley has undergone a complete change within this past year with everything from her style to her music. Yet, if you had told Miley five years ago that she would be collaborating with Future, Big Sean and Nelly, she would have never believed you.

"When I was like a little punky teenager, I wanted to make rock music," Miley said. "That's what I thought I wanted to do. I thought I was going to come out and be some sort of like a Paramore, in a band, that's what I really thought I was going to end up doing."

Miley Remembers Her Smilers

Miley has one of the most devoted fan groups, and it turns the feeling is mutual. During one scene, Miley meets up with some of her die-hard Smilers, but there was one in particular that caught her attention as she was sporting a onsie that read "sex, drugs, rap." Not only did Miley compliment her look, she also remembered the same fan's dress from a past event. In ...

Sandra Bullock Finally Explains The Three Seashells In ‘Demolition Man’

It's been a mystery that's dogged film fans since "Demolition Man" was first released in 1993: How do you use the three seashells? And now, finally, star Sandra Bullock has given us the answer.

First, a bit of background for those of you who haven't seen the classic action flick: After being accused of crimes committed by Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), super-cop John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone) is cryogenically frozen. He's eventually thawed out in 2032 to help take down a returned Snipes. Stallone teams up with Sandra Bullock's clean-cut future cop, and naturally, cultures clash.

One moment that's stuck with fans for years: after exiting a bathroom Stallone asks why there's no toilet paper, and only three seashells on a shelf. "He doesn't know how to use the three seashells!" says fellow cop Rob Schneider. And then they all laugh, and laugh... But we never found out how the three seashells are used. Until now!

On the red carpet for "Gravity," MTV News' Josh Horowitz asked Sandra Bullock to once and for all settle the greatest mystery in movie history.

"Well, think of a bidet, right?" said Bullock. "There's several processes. You have number one, you have number two, and then the cleanup."

But it doesn't stop there. Turns out the seashells are also musical instruments. "You can use them as little maracas as well," continued Bullock, giving an example of the sort of beat you can drop with the future's answer to toilet paper. "See, it's a musical instrument, and it's a hygiene element!"

Surprised that this mystery which has plagued film ...

Britney Spears Says Original ‘Work Bitch’ Showed ‘Way More Skin’

Britney Spears cracks a whip, plays dominatrix and looks fierce in a bikini in her video, but believe it or not, the sex factor was supposed to be turned up even more.

During an interview with the TJ Show on Boston's AMP 103.3 Spears admitted that the video she released on Tuesday is actually toned down from what she and Ben Mor came up with on set.

"We showed way more skin and did way more stuff for the video than what is actually there," Spears said. "I cut out, like, half the video because I am a mother; I have children. And it's hard to play sexy mom while you're being a pop star as well, but I have to just be true to myself and feel it out when I do stuff."

Being true to herself certainly paid off, as her dance moves and S&M-inspired outfits that have her Britney Army rejoicing that their "bad bitch" is back.

"It's great. The reaction has been incredible. Everyone is gushing about it, I'm really happy about it," Spears' manager Larry Rudolph told MTV News. "I think she looks amazing in it, her performance is amazing, the concept was great; not many people have live sharks in their video. I can't say [how much it cost] but it wasn't cheap."

And even though Mor told MTV News that there was "no going backwards" after "Work Bitch," it seems like Spears is ready to take things old school.

"Sometimes I would like to bring it back to the old days when ...

Kendrick Tucks In A ‘Sensitive Rapper’ — Is Drake A Target?

Looks like Kendrick Lamar is determined to finish the rap drama he started. The good kid set off a whirlwind in hip-hop when he dropped his verse on Big Sean's "Control" in August, calling out folks like J. Cole, Meek Mill and Drake.

Now that a number of his rap counterparts have fired back, Kendrick is turning up the heat with a freestyle in BET's upcoming 2013 Hip Hop Awards cypher.

The show doesn't air until October 15, but a snippet video of the pre-tapped cypher was posted on AllHipHop.com on Thursday (October 3) and it appears that Drake's the intended target.

"Yeah, and nothing's been the same since they dropped 'Control'/ And tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes/ Haha, jokes on you, high-five, I'm bulletproof," K-Dot spits while giving his Black Hippy partner Schoolboy Q a high-five right on cue.

For those who missed the references, Drake, whose been taken to task for tapping into his "emo" side, just dropped his third solo album, Nothing Was the Same.

"Ya sh-- will never penetrate/ Pin a tail on the donkey, boy ya been a fake," Lamar adds, flowing over Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones Pt. II" instrumental.

Drake brushed off K-Dot's initial "Control" lyric, on which he threatened to figuratively murder Drizzy and other MCs. "It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That's all it was," Drake told Billboard back in August. "I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess ...

When Miley Met Britney: The Story Behind One Of ‘The Movement’s’ Key Scenes

One of the most memorable moments in MTV's documentary happens when the normally unflappable Miley Cyrus meets her idol, Britney Spears, in the recording studio, and, well, acts like a total fangirl.

It's definitely a side of Miley that we don't see all that often — if ever — and getting to watch the two stars interact in the sanctity of the studio (Britney was in to record vocals on the Bangerz track "SMS") may be the behind-the-scenes moment to end all behind-the-scenes moments. So you could imagine what it was like to be in the room when the two pop megastars met.

"It was great; they both have an insane mutual admiration for each other. Britney loves Miley and what she's doing right now," Larry Rudolph, who manages both artists, told MTV News. "It reminds her of some of the things she was doing back when she was around that age, making these huge waves at the VMAs and creating these huge pop-culture moments, they're very similar.

"Obviously, it's done in a slightly different way, but the outcome is very similar: get people talking, get in there and don't be safe, go in there and just blow the doors down." he continued. "Britney can relate to that. And Miley, she's said that the first album she ever bought was Britney's ... Baby One More Time album, it's what got her into pop music in the first place. She loves Britney, she idolizes her, so, for her, working with her was literally #1 on her list of things to ...

Ariana Grande Drops ‘Pink Champagne’ And Has ‘Cool, Weird Things’ On The Way

Ariana Grande may have dropped her chart-topping debut album, Yours Truly, back in September, but the 20-year-old singer and Nick star is already giving fans more new music.

In addition to hitting the studio for February's follow-up album, Grande also premiered a previously unreleased track, "Pink Champagne."

"I cannot believe I have 10 million followers on Twitter. That's the craziest thing in the world," she said in a video. "So as a 'thank you' I wanted to give you guys this song, which I know you love and makes you so happy. It's a fetus song. I recorded it when I was about 17. This is a rough, rough, rough, rough and it's really ancient, but you know how I feel about my fetus music."

To "satisfy" her fans who wanted it on the debut album, she decided to drop it earlier this week. The track is a peppy pop tune that bounces with upbeat lyrics like "Make it pop like Pink Champagne/ In the purple rain/ Gonna paint, paint, paint the city/ We're gonna show off all our pretty, pretty/ In a pink champagne."

When MTV News spoke to Grande earlier this year, she opened up a bit about songs she recorded around the time of Yours Truly, weighing in on if they would ever see the light of day, especially tunes she recorded with Mac Miller, who appeared on

"No, you know the kind of music that Mac and I make is kind of experimental and weird and, like, it's super cool. I would love to ...
