‘Walking Dead’ Producer Takes Us Inside The AMC Spin-Off

Since it was announced a few short weeks ago, speculation has run high about what exactly AMC's spin-off (or companion series, as they're calling it) for "The Walking Dead" would be about. Ahead of the October 13 debut of season four, we hopped on the phone with "Walking Dead" executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, and while she remained tight-lipped about most of the details of the 2015 series, we did manage to eke out a few morsels.

"It's very early in the process," said Hurd over the phone, "But we realized it was likely to leak the minute we started initial discussions... Even checking availabilities of certain showrunners. And that's why the announcement was made."

Though they still don't have a concept — "That's still being batted around," Hurd said when asked directly about the idea for the show — they have sat down with possible showrunners and are in "early discussions." That means every high-profile showrunner in Hollywood will be asked if they've talked to "The Walking Dead" producers, though we imagine their NDAs are clamped down tighter than a Walker on its prey.

And while we don't know much, Hurd says it won't be an anthology. We brought up the idea in reference to the webisode series that launch before each season of the show. Given the production team has already rolled out three of these web series to much success, it seems like a natural progression. But sadly, it's not meant to be — ironically, because of the success of the webisodes:

"I do think the webisodes serve that purpose," Hurd ...

‘Miley Cyrus: The Movement’ Leaves Fans Asking ‘Is This Real Life?’

Miley Cyrus seemed to add a lot more followers to her "movement" Wednesday night with the premiere of her in-depth MTV documentary, which gave fans a revealing look at the road to Bangerz.

took fans into the studio with Cyrus as she recorded new music, chatted with idol Britney Spears and, of course, pounded the pavement to promote her upcoming album release. And, from the looks of her Smilers' reactions, they appreciated every minute of it — particularly gossip blogger Perez Hilton, who declared himself vice president of the Movement.

Other fans also took social media to post their equally excited reactions to the documentary, which included lots of renditions of "Wrecking Ball."

Miley also made sure her fans knew she was also spending her Wednesday night at home to watch the special.

Jamie Lynn Spears and father Jamie were sure to tune in to catch Britney hanging with Cyrus during the doc, during which they swapped war stories and recorded their track, "SMS."

‘X Factor’ Recap: Judges Put Brutal Spin On The ‘Final Four’

"The X Factor" played a rather confounding game of musical chairs on Wednesday, debuting a new elimination round called the Four-Chair Challenge.

The new competition — which judge Simon Cowell told MTV News is a little "controversial" — takes the place of the boot camp and judges' houses rounds. The rules are simple, at least on the surface: The 10 artists from each of the four categories — Boys, Girls, Over 25s and Groups — compete for the four available positions in their field, physically represented by chairs, and thereby narrowing the pool of contestants from 40 to 16. And that's what happens, eventually — after a drawn-out, passive-aggressive elimination process that removes all meaning from the phrase "final four."

Wednesday's episode focused on the Over 25s, overseen by Kelly Rowland. And while the Four-Chair Challenge had been teased in advertisements as the most brutal round of cuts ever, the reality wasn't so cruel, with the first four contestants to take the stage getting the nod of approval from Rowland and occupying those four precious chairs.

So that's it, right? Not quite. Because making it to one of the chairs means nothing until everyone has sang, because singers in those chairs can be replaced, even after their mentor has told them, in plain English, that they've "made the final four." Confused yet? Everyone is! And we haven't even gotten to the part where Rubio praised a contestant for having a lot of "gritch." (She really did.)

In the end, Rowland sent eight of her 10 singers through to her "final four." That means ...

Chris Brown Hits The Studio With Big Sean, will.i.am And … Drake?

Stranger things have happened. Wait, no they haven't.

Fans were thrown into a frenzy on Wednesday when Chris Brown posted video of himself in the studio with one-time rival Drake.

The clip was part of a two-minute montage showing Breezy recording with some of the biggest names in music, but it was the brief glimpse of Drizzy that got people talking.

It was just over a year ago that the two were at the center of a bottle-smashing brawl
between their crews in a New York nightclub that was allegedly sparked by their mutual affection for Brown's ex, Rihanna. But in the new video (which does not indicate when the footage was shot), Drake is all smiles as he praises one of Brown's songs.

It's unclear from the footage if Drake is involved in a new song or when the bit was recorded. Brown just announced that his sixth studio album, X will finally drop on November 19 after several delays.

"In the studio: Breezy spends lots of time in the studio and loves hangin' and collaborating with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Drake, the Game and Justin Bieber," reads the intro to the video.

Hunched over a laptop, a hoodie-wearing Drake is seen moving his head to an unheard track (the soundtrack to the montage is Brown's 2008 single/Doublemint gum jingle, "Forever"). He tells Brown, "Yeah, this is a big record, man." The two are then shown bobbing their heads in unison and, in a different shot, shaking hands. Brown indicated that the footage was new with ...

Justin Bieber Starts Countdown To ‘Heartbreaker’

Forget the 12 days of Christmas. What about the 10 weeks of Bieber? Starting on October 7, Justin Bieber will kick off a series he's calling Music Mondays with the long-awaited single, "Heartbreaker."

The plan calls for a new song to be released at midnight on Sunday in the lead-up to Bieber's upcoming movie. "Sunday Midnight #heartbreaker #MusicMondays #10weeks," Bieber tweeted on Wednesday.

Back in July, Bieber posted the first line
of the song on Instagram. "Ooh, girl, I got a secret place that we can go/ 'Cause girl, I really want to be alone/ And, baby, nobody else got to know," he sings on the R&B-influenced track that has a sexy groove. The tease for "Heartbreaker" has been going on for months, including the release of the cover art back in June, which consisted of a crumbling purple heart
.

He reposted the cover on Wednesday with the message, "Are you ready?" Manager Scooter Braun seconded that emotion, adding later that night, "So it begins ... #Sunday #midnight #10weeks #musicmondays -- expect the unexpected."

Not much is known about the follow-up to 2011's "Never Say Never" movie, but Braun has promised
that a sequel is coming later this year. "[Justin] gives u some new music in October until December and then a special movie on Christmas," Braun said of the in-the-works documentary on his Believe album. That is, assuming director Jon Chu can finish it in time.

How ‘Gravity’ Special Effects Made Its Director’s Hair Go Gray

The problem with "

Those effects didn't come easily, however. Cuarón and his production crew developed technologies over the course of four and a half years to make the space walks and other zero-gravity environments believable. When MTV News sat down with Cuarón at the junket for "Gravity," he told us more about how he realized that this film would be a bigger project than he had ever anticipated.

"When we finished the screenplay, we thought it was going to be a film with a fair amount of visual effects, but it was going to be a straight-forward kind of shoot," he said. "It was not until we started testing the existing technologies that we realized they were not going to work. We learned that we had to invent our own technologies. From that point, it was a big unknown for almost two years."

Fearing that he was stuck, Cuarón turned to his filmmaker friends David Fincher, who had experience with "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and James Cameron, who pioneered motion-capture technology for "Avatar."

"David Fincher said, 'The technology is not ready. You have to wait five years.' And he was right. It took us four and a half, not five, but he was right," Cuarón said. "Cameron was the one saying, 'Look, the technology is there. Everything is possible. It's how you use the technology and how the tools that you developed based upon this technology.' Both in many ways were encouraging. They were saying, 'Yes, it's going to happen.' "

"Gravity" and its breathtaking visuals are the ultimate proof of ...

‘Miley: The Movement’ Brings The Mission To The Masses

Miley Cyrus is on a mission.

That much is clear after watching the MTV documentary that followed her through the recording of her Bangerz album, from the day "We Can't Stop" debuted on radio, to the night of her much-discussed VMA performance and beyond. Needless to say, it's a pretty remarkable journey; one that's even more amazing considering Miley is making all the calls ... and continuing to get them right.

At every point along the way, Cyrus makes it clear that Bangerz is more than a mere album; it's her declaration of independence, her attempt at pushing pop music forward, not to mention the opening salvo in her bid to conquer the world. Most artists would shy away from those kind of sentiments; then again, most artists aren't her.

"It's an army, moving at once, pushing the boundaries, being new and creative," she tells the camera. "It's bigger than just a record, it represents taking over the world."

It's little wonder, then, to learn that she came up with the title of the film. To her, this really is a Movement, and she's prepared to work overtime to make it happen. That ambition is one of the most revealing aspects of the film; Miley is an avowed perfectionist, an artist who rarely takes the easy route and never settles for second-best ("If you're not first, you're last," is how she puts it). She battles sickness and sleepless nights, criss-crosses the country to perform on television programs, takes a hands-on approach to just about everything involved in the production of ...

‘Thor: The Dark World’ Primed For A Grimy ‘Game Of Thrones’ Makeover

Fans of the Marvel world got their first glimpse of another realm in 2011's "

The filmmakers created their own version of the Norse religion's home base, populated with super-powered gods like Loki, Odin, and Avenger-to-be Thor, including visuals that were seemingly pulled right out of Thor co-creator Jack Kirby's lovingly and elaborately rendered comic book pages.

But this year's upcoming "Thor: The Dark World" will see an entirely new influence leaving its mark on the franchise: that of the popular HBO dark fantasy drama "Game of Thrones." The dirt and grit comes courtesy of director Alan Taylor, one of the minds behind the show's first two seasons. And despite the differences in medium, origin and tone, from what we can tell, the aesthetic marriage of these gigantic properties has created a big-screen interpretation of Asgard unlike any we've seen before.

"Coming off 'Game of Thrones,' where we sort of enjoyed combining fantasy with some sense of three-dimensionality and real life, that's what I tried to bring in here," Taylor explained to MTV News during our set visit. "It's a funny balancing act because you have to be funny in the way that Marvel [movies are] funny, and you have to be true to some pretty absurd things — like elves in spaceships. But then [you have] to try to make that relatable and real and textured and rich and stuff."

This slightly skewed Asgard means that the film will journey to corners of the realm that have previously been shrouded in darkness. "We're seeing the back ...
