Miley Cyrus Drops Emotional ‘Wrecking Ball’ Director’s Cut

When you read "director's cut," you more than likely expect something exponentially riskier than what was released the first time around. And with Miley Cyrus, that turns out to be sort of true.

On Tuesday (September 24), she dropped the director's cut for as a follow-up to the record-breaking Terry Richardson-directed music video. But while the original clip saw Miley wielding a sledgehammer and riding the titular ball, the director's cut doesn't really have any cuts. It's an unbroken take of the heartbreaking close-up of Miley's face, with her emotions on center stage. The only time Richardson cuts away is at the very end, where, after a quick director's credit page, we see Terry and Miley laughing and mugging for the camera.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rolling Stone published its cover story on Cyrus, in which she expressed pride in the "real" emotion she showed in the video. While most viewers assumed she was weeping over the soon-to-be-announced breakup with Liam Hemsworth, she surprisingly attributed it to the sadness felt over the recent death of her dog.

The director's cut comes only days after Miley performed the song for the very first time before a live audience — both in Vegas and all across the country — during the iHeartRadio Music Festival. Fans were stunned as Miley, on bended knee in front of projected images of a collapsing building, was brought to tears while belting out her ballad.

On October 2, fans will get to see Cyrus like never before on MTV with the premiere of a one-hour ...

Will Kris Humphries Face Off With James Franco On ‘The Mindy Project’?

If James Franco was poking fun at his Renaissance-man public image during the season premiere of then Kim Kardashian's ex, Kris Humphries, is taking that idea to the next level. The basketball player and former Kardashian hubby will stop by the Fox sitcom this Tuesday (September 24), playing a hyped-up version of himself.

According to the show's star, Mindy Kaling, the Boston Celtics forward is not afraid to go there and address his very public breakup with the reality starlet. Kim and Kris finalized their divorce back in April.

"He's very natural and super-funny, and the way that he's incorporated into the script is he and [guest star] Bill Hader are in a support group with [co-star] Chris Messina. It's called the 'Getting Over It Gang' and it's a support group for men whose wives have left them," Kaling revealed to MTV News. "And the fact that Kris Humphries heard what that premise was and knew that we wanted him to play himself in it was so funny and he was so nice about it. And his chemistry with Bill Hader is so great."

Don't expect all the comedy to just take place in the support group though. There are more antics in store from Dr. Mindy and Franco's Dr. Leotard. "Well, we sort of sowed the seeds in the first episode that my character is sort of very attracted to his character. But also extremely annoyed," Kaling said. "[In] the second episode ... the professional animosity and the personal attraction really makes a big splash. And Bill Hader's in ...

From ’21 Questions’ To T.I.’s ’24’s’: Miley Cyrus And Mike Will Fit Right In With ’23’

Whether she's twerking, licking things or straddling wrecking balls, Miley Cyrus is always primed to break the mold and step out of the music world-spun ordinary. Her appearance in Mike Will Made It's newest video for however, renders her just one of the pack — the pack of videos featuring numerals, that is.

If you're ready to call Miley out for lying about her age in the track, which also features Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J, you better bite your protruding tongue. The "23" in the song refers not to anyone's age, but to Michael Jordan's retired #23 Chicago Bulls jersey. The video features all kinds of high school-themed shenanigans, including an epic prank, pep rally and some serious rapping in Miley's part. The number "23" also makes an appearance in the video — both on Miley's modified jersey and in a lipstick scrawl on the girl's room mirror.

To celebrate the addition of "23" to the numerically themed music video canon, we've assembled a list of our favorite number videos from 20-25. Check it out below:

"20 Years," The Civil Wars
This Grammy-winning duo held a contest for the accompanying video to their numerically monikered jam. The winning video was created by South African production company, Innerview Productions, and tells the tangled story of a couple during the apartheid regime in South Africa.

"21 Questions," 50 Cent ft. Nate Dogg
Fiddy gets all "cellblock tango" in this video for his query-laden jam about whether his lady still loves him. How many ways can she prove she loves ...

Drake’s ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ Is Just The Beginning Of His Return To Acting

Hours before Drake released his Nothing Was the Same single the Toronto rapper told MTV News that he hopes to hear the track played at weddings in 10 years, so imagine our surprise when his mafia-inspired visuals for "Hold On" dropped on Tuesday (September 24). It's all a part of Drizzy's master plan though, to return to his acting roots.

The 7-minute clip opens with Drake, A$AP Rocky and other members of their mafia crew dinging and celebrating at a Miami restaurant back in 1985. As they toast to their recent success, Drake receives a phone call that his girlfriend has been taken hostage and he sets out on a mission to rescue her.

From his earlier description of the song, it was hard to predict that there'd be a "Bad Boys"-style shootout in the accompanying video for "Hold On We're Going Home," but Drake explains that it's all a part of his plan to get back into acting.

"Bill Pope, who directed 'The Matrix,' directed the video and basically it's a video full of acting because I'm dying to get back into acting," Drake told MTV News. "So there's actually no performance in the video — it's all acting. A$AP's in it as well, plus a lot of different cameos, but it's a story-based video."

"I based it off of some of the old Michael Jackson videos like 'Moonwalker,' so it's sort of exciting, violent a little and scary a little, but it's great."

Drake got his start on the popular Canadian TV show "Degrassi" and took a major hiatus ...

Miley Cyrus: 7 Things We Learned From Her Revealing <i>Rolling Stone</i> Interview

Miley Cyrus isn't afraid to let it all hang out.

With her hair slicked back, her eye makeup smudged and her tongue sticking out, Cyrus poses nude for the cover of the October issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

Cyrus holds nothing back in the revealing interview, where she openly speaks on topics ranging from her 2013 VMA performance to her friendships with Justin Bieber and Kanye West.

Smilers are bound to learn something new about the star of MTV's October 2 documentary, "Miley: The Movement," which is why MTV News rounded up seven new facts about the "We Can't Stop" singer from her candid new interview.

Miley's Foot Tattoo
For her first-ever Rolling Stone cover, Cyrus wanted to do something "fun." And after ruling out bowling and laser tag, the next step was a tattoo, inking the word "Rolling" on the bottom of her right foot and "$tone" on the bottom of her left.

Will She Twerk Again?
For the past month, fans have not stopped talking — good or bad — about Cyrus' Video Music Awards performance with Robin Thicke. Miley revealed she "could have gone further" with the performance and shared that she received supportive messages from Pharrell and Lil' Kim. She wasn't expecting so much backlash following the performance, but still isn't bothered by the haters.

"I wasn't trying to be sexy, if I was trying to be sexy, I could have been sexy. I can dance a lot better than I was dancing..." she said. "People are like, 'Miley thinks she's a black girl, but she's got ...

One Direction Fans Named ‘Diana’ Are Freaking Out Right Now

Up until recently, Diana was the goddess of the moon and hunting, an iconic princess whose death inspired Elton John's "Candle in the Wind," the queen of Motown — now, however, she's the envy of millions of unfortunately monikered Directioners. Whoever, that is, she may be.

A track titled "Diana" has leaked online, but the band has yet to confirm whether the track is official. Reminiscent of the vocal stylings of Sting and the Police, it adds another name to the list of most-envied by Directioners — right up there with

On Twitter, those named "Diana" are on a full-blown gloating spree, and who can blame them? Having a song about you — however tangentially — is the dream. "MY NAME IS DIANA ONE DIRECTION HAVE A SONG CALLED DIANA THEREFORE I AM BETTER THAN ALL OF YOU AND I SHOULDNT WAIT IN LINE," tweeted fan @heroinzarry, taking an opportunistic tone. @ilovehelpingbff was just stoked to be mentioned — "@1DThisIsUs hey guys my name is diana and i loved ur song named diana it was amzing" -- and @haniDeVilliers appreciated the extra cache: "my little sister logic : one direction's new single 'Diana' is written and dedicated to me because my name is Diana. -__- i'm sickkkkkk."

Others fought for the veracity of their names in the face of doubting fans. @iCASHTONARRY said, "I'm 302% sure that my name is actually Diana bc it says it on my student ID and my credit card and birth certificate okay," while @Ellena17Diana said, ...

J. Cole’s ‘Fruitvale Station’ Tears Rolled Into ‘Crooked Smile’ Video

J. Cole's imperfections inspired "Crooked Smile" and while his latest Born Sinner single is cheery and uplifting, the song's video takes a very serious turn.

The Roc Nation MC puts his acting skills on display as he plays a drug dealer, who watches his fictional little sister murdered by police. He dedicates the short-film clip to Aiyana Stanley-Jones, a 7-year old Detroit girl who was shot and killed when police raided her home in 2010.

"I wanted to come and strike a nerve with this video. It just so happened at the same time 'Fruitvale Station' came out — the story about Oscar Grant. I watched that movie and I cried the entire movie," Cole told MTV News at the iHeart Radio Music Festival, of the critically acclaimed drama released in July.

Filled with fiery emotion, Cole wanted to tell a story that would shed light on police brutality and the injustices that young people of color face on a continuing basis. "I never forgot about this little girl Aiyana Stanley-Jones, I never forgot about her story when it happened a few years ago," he said. "I definitely wanted to dedicate this video to her and get more people to know about her story."

Cole isn't concerned that the grim video doesn't exactly match the tone of the song — for him it was the right message to send. Two days before the Fayetteville, North Carolina, spitter dropped the video, a 24-year-old NC man, Jonathan Ferrell, was shot and killed by police after he survived a car crash and stumbled ...

Kanye West Adds Five Awesome New Ye-Isms To His Resume: ‘I Know How To Make Perfect’

There are a few things Kanye West knows he's good at: music, fashion, art and, well, kind of everything. In a wide-ranging one-hour interview with BBC Radio 1 host Zane Lowe, the always humble West served up a kind of greatest hits of Ye-isms, including the bold statement that he's the "#1 rock star on the planet."

Looking relaxed and smiling, Yeezy also dropped what could be his ultimate motto at the top of the chat: "Live like you're gonna die tomorrow."

Here are a five best modest moments from the first part of the sit-down:

Emperor of Pop?
Sure, Michael Jackson dubbed himself the King of Pop and is widely considered to be one of the most successful solo acts of all time. But Kanye is pretty confident that he's got MJ beat. "I was able to ascend to massive levels, heights and never stop because of the foundation that my mother and my father and my grandfather laid through civil rights. What Michael Jackson did with music videos ... there would be no Kanye West without Michael Jackson."

And then 'Ye explained why he goes on his rants and gives impassioned speeches about his awesomeness during his shows. "I've reached a point in my life where my 'Truman Show' boat has reached the painting," he said of the 1998 Jim Carrey movie about a man who discovers that his life is part of a reality show. "I've got to a point that Michael Jackson did not break down. I have reached the glass ceiling, as a creative ...
