The Weeknd — a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye — is not one for interviews, at least in the traditional sense. That's why it doesn't surprise us that in the wake of dropping Kiss Land this week, the musician decided to field the public's questions via a less-than-traditional arena — a Reddit AMA (or Ask Me Anything) thread in which he revealed, among other things, where the name "The Weeknd" came from.

"I left home when I was about 17 dropped out of high school and convinced Lamar to do the same lol," he said in answer to a query, referring to a member of his XO crew. "We grabbed our mattresses from our parents threw it in our friends shitty van and left one weekend and never came back home. It was gonna be the title of HOB [House of Balloons]. I hated my name at the time though so I tried it as a stage name. It sounded cool. I took out the "e" because there was already a Canadian band named the weekend (copyright issues)."

Tesfaye also revealed a bit more about his personal life in answers to other queries, telling fans that all of his dark, languid music is based on his real-life experiences, and giving us a glimpse into his upbringing in Canada. Although the musician is a Canadian native, his family hails from Ethiopia, and that ancestry has been a strong force in his life."[Ahmaric was the] First language I learned," said Tesfaye. "Had no dad and mom was working 24/7 so my grandma ...

Crisis averted! Earlier this week, Ariana Grande was ordered by her doctors to go on vocal rest after suffering from a hemorrhaged vocal cord. Now, the 20-year-old chart-topper wants her fans to know that she's feeling just fine.

"Everybody on Instagram telling me to feel better, I thank you so much for the well wishes, but I'm actually completely fine. My voice is healthy. I'm talking right now," she said in the short video message posted on her Instagram. "I just lost my voice at my party for my album, but I'm completely fine now. Thank you!"

And, the recovering Grande was already trying to make some plans for the weekend, floating around some potential ideas to her 9 million-plus Twitter followers Friday. She wrote, "It's Friday the 13th I wanna go some place haunted tonight."

It's been a big week for the "Sam & Cat" star, who is still celebrating the success of her chart-topping debut album, Yours Truly. She thanked her fans earlier this week, "My 1st album has debuted at #1 & I can't even begin to express my gratitude. Thank you for supporting my music, this really means the world."

The album's success had already generated a lot of buzz, and on Monday night, the singer was joined by her contributor Mac Miller and partner Big Sean when she closed out her Listening Sessions tour in L.A.

Earlier this year, scared up more than $135 million at the box office, and now, Patrick Wilson and director James Wan are back for round two with which could even set a new September record.

In July, "The Conjuring" debuted with $41.9 million, the biggest horror opening in a year full of low-budget shocker successes like January's Guillermo del Toro-produced "Mama" and June's "The Purge," from "Insidious" producer Jason Blum. Going into the weekend, Fandango reported "Insidious: Chapter 2" had sold more pre-sale tickets than any other horror flick this year.

2011's "Insidious" made $97 million worldwide. "Insidious: Chapter 2" reunites Wan, Wilson, Rose Byrne and Lin Shaye with the supernatural horror premise of the first film. Box-office forecasters predicted an opening around $32 million for the less well-reviewed $5 million sequel.

The month of September is generally slow for movie theaters, with students returning to school and football hitting TV. If "Insidious: Chapter 2" does open north of $30 million, it will be the only live-action movie to have done so in the last 10 years, aside from the similarly PG-13 "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," which debuted with $30 million back in 2005.

The weekend's other major new release, mining familiar mafia territory for laughs. Despite originating with writer/director Luc Besson ("The Professional") and boasting an executive producer credit for Martin Scorsese, "The Family" has been panned by most film critics.

Nevertheless, a debut in the $11 million to $13 million range should be enough to give "The Family" the #2 spot over last week's box-office ...

The third installment of MMG's Self Made series finds Rick Ross adding Chicago native Rockie Fresh to the mix along with Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley and Omarion and a long-list of features. From newcomers to veteran signees, Rozay's crew are ready to kick off MMG season with Self Made Vol. 3.

"I see evolution," Meek told MTV News. "There's more people, new talent and we're definitely growing with music. I think we're all getting better and growing."

Self Made Vol. 3 opens with Meek's late Dreamchasers signee Lil Snupe, who recorded the feature shortly before his death. "He was one of the hottest young guys — I met him in his town [after doing a show]. I was on my way back to the plane and he knocked on the window with a demo, so I signed him, and he was special," Meek explained. "But unfortunately he got caught in the streets and lost his life at an early age."

"I texted Snupe like 'Ross wants you on Self Made, this is your big shot right here. This was about five days before he passed away. And Ross is a real dude, he sticks to his word, so he still wanted Snupe to be part of the project he even though he passed away."

While Meek's singles "Like A Boss" and "Tupac Back" were smash hits from Self Made Vol. 1, recent MMG signee Rockie Fresh will appear on the compilation for the first time.

"I just wanted to be myself on records," he told MTV News. "I just think it's dope. ...

When Miley Cyrus revealed the tracklist for Bangerz earlier this week, we learned that she'd been getting busy with several famous friends, including Britney Spears, Big Sean and Nelly.

In recent months, Nelly's been riding high on the success of another collaboration: his cameo on Florida Georgia Line's crossover smash "Cruise." And, from the sound of things, his contribution to Bangerz — a track called "4x4" — doesn't stray all that far from "Cruise's" country roots.

"It's kind of a country, hip-hop, pop feel, if you can believe that," Nelly told MTV News. "It's about having fun; kind of how a 4x4 truck symbolizes rebelliousness ... you know, mashing out, wanting to ride with the bad boys. It's a dope track."

Nelly said that Miley does "a little rapping and a little singing" on the Pharrell-produced track, and he was quick to compliment her skills on the mic. She may have grown up with a County-crooning father, but it seems her hip-hop knowledge runs deeper than most realize.

"She grew up with hip hop. Hip hop is a way of life, she's not a rapper but she loves hip hop. It's about how she expresses herself," he explained. "I know a lot of kids her age that are just like her; they grew up loving this music. People act like they want her to be 30 years old; she's not even 21, she has no kids, she's been working with Disney for her whole life, she wants to have some fun."

All hail Julianne Moore! The Academy Award-nominated actress is set to play President Alma Coin in the last two flicks in the "Hunger Games" franchise,

Lionsgate confirmed the casting on Friday (September 13); however Moore has been attached to the role since back in June.

"Mockingjay," the final book in the three-part dystopian series by Suzanne Collins, is being split up into two movies. The last acts of the franchise follow the enduring Quarter Quell tributes, who are now entering a rebellion that will decide the fate of their oppressed country. Coin has a pivotal role in the last part of the franchise as she is the president of District 13, where much of the action in Panem takes place as the series closes out.

Moore's casting comes hot on the heels of several other new castings, including "Game of Thrones" star Natalie Dormer, former and Hollywood newcomer Stef Dawson. will be back to close out the franchise in the director's chair. And the series' leading stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will be back for more action as well.

While the second "Hunger Games" film has yet to hit theaters ("Catching Fire" is slated to be released on November 22), both "Mockingjay" movies already have release dates. "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1," is scheduled for a November 21, 2014, release with "Mockingjay - Part 2" opening in theaters November 20, 2015.
