Simon Cowell Says Britney Spears ‘Couldn’t Talk’ On ‘X Factor’

"X Factor" boss Simon Cowell sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show on Tuesday (September 10) to talk about lots of things, including opening up about his impending fatherhood and explaining why his experiment with Britney Spears on "Factor" was a bust.

You might recall the hype that surrounded the addition of Spears to the "Factor" panel last year. "There was a time where I think everybody was trying to up themselves in terms of who could find the biggest known star to be on a panel," Cowell said, naming "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez and the "other one ... blondie" on "The Voice," in reference to Christina Aguilera.

"And so we thought, 'well, we'll take Britney. And she was fine, but I think she found it very uncomfortable," he said, perhaps explaining Spears' GIF-worthy series of odd faces, bland platitudes and lack of engagement during her single-season run.

"She's not a big talker," DeGeneres offered. "I didn't realize that," Cowell admitted with a laugh. "I kind of booked someone who couldn't talk, which is a bit of a problem when you want someone to judge." Cowell further explained that Spears was also not comfortable giving negative critiques and was even less at ease with sassy contestants who talked back to her.

"She was just uncomfortable ... I liked her ... so we decided to change it this year and I thought, 'I'll work with three girls,' because I like working with girls," Cowell said, by way of explaining why he filled Spears' and departed judge L.A. Reid's spots with ...

Rick Ross Doubles Up In Miami For MMG’s ‘Gallardo,’ ‘Stack On My Belt’: Watch

Rick Ross and his MMG team are dropping their Self Made Vol. 3 album in just one week, and last week MTV News caught up with them in Miami on the set of two videos, for the singles "Gallardo" and "Stack on My Belt."

"Ross is the mastermind and he put the record together," Gunplay said of the second single from the album, which features Rozay and Yo Gotti. That clip was filmed right alongside "Stack on My Belt," featuring Ross, Wale and Birdman, and was also directed by MMG's Dre Films.

"The concept behind 'Gallardo' is basically fly whips," Dre Films told MTV News. "We've got a couple [Gallardos] out here. We have beautiful women, so it's a fly record and the ladies are gonna love it. This is one of the videos that I notice has the most cameos in it. A lot of the people who are featured on Self Made Vol. 3 are in the video and I'm just glad they came out and showed love and support."

Ross explained that the song came about organically. "We was in the studio and actually there were four Gallardo Lamborghinis outside, and we pulled up a beat and we just was having fun, man," he said. "It's a real good vibe, it's for the women who really just shooting for the stars. She don't mean no harm, she just wanna be with a bawse."

"Stack on My Belt" isn't any lighter on the high-end accessories, according to Dre Films. "That's another record that we're just trying show off ...

Zedd Says Hayley Williams ‘Fits So Well’ On ‘Stay The Night’

One listen to Paramore's new album should tell you that Hayley Williams and the guys are very interested in expanding their musical boundaries ... which is just part of the reason why Zedd recruited Williams for his new single,

Seems he's got a lot more in common with the fiery frontwoman than most folks realize.

"Although my music is electronic, it has a lot of influences from my past, which is all sorts of genres; I've been in a rock-metal band for a longtime, and I still feel like, personally, I have a lot of influence from that," Zedd told MTV News. "My classical influence, you can find spots here and there. I think we have a similar background, musically, and maybe that's why it fits so well ... I feel like a lot of other genres are in my music even though they're not in the spotlight."

And those similar sensibilities are what make "Stay the Night" — which is available digitally Tuesday — such a natural fit. Williams' soulful vocals blend seamlessly with Zedd's keening, electronic production, creating a song that's certainly ready for the clubs, but also contains nods to the rush of rock and the compositions of classical music. Though, when Zedd spoke to MTV News, he wasn't all that interested in figuring out where the track fit ... rather, he was focused on nailing his portion of the music video.

"I don't have to think about anything, I just have to play the song, but I have to play it in double speed, which ...

The Wanted Debut ‘Epic’ New Ballad ‘Show Me Love’

The Wanted may have had to push back the release of Word of Mouth, but on Tuesday (September 10), the boy band offered up fans some new music thanks to their new single, "Show Me Love."

The ballad offers up a change of pace for the group, who previously dropped two peppier singles and off their November 4 effort. Their latest single, which bandmate Nathan Sykes helped co-write, is about coming to terms with a relationship that just isn't going to work out. The boy bander spoke to MTV News about the track, explaining why he wanted to write it.

"Personally, for me, there's a song called 'Show Me Love' and it's a song I wrote in an afternoon with a friend of mine. And it really means a lot to me 'cause it kind of goes into how hard it is to hold a relationship when you're in this business, traveling the world and stuff like that," he told us about the slow jam. "And it's just saying to someone 'I could have shown you the world but obviously we're on different paths.' I think that's kind of how a lot of people in this industry kind of feel, but I think it's very relatable to a lot of the fans as well because sometimes in life that just happens and people end up on different paths and it just doesn't work out."

While the guys are best known for creating party-themed jams, their new track recalls "All Time Low," a ballad off their 2010 self-titled ...

Need More One Direction? ‘This Is Us’ Extended Version Coming Your Way

Hankering to see more of One Direction? Well, in just three days, an extended cut of is coming to a theater near you.

According to Billboard, the extended version of the Morgan Spurlock-directed flick, which first hit theaters on August 30, will include 20 minutes of never-before-seen footage as well as four songs not originally included in the first cut.

When MTV News spoke to Spurlock back in August, he explained that he had enough footage left on the cutting-room floor to include in future releases of the flick, including a DVD release, or now, the extended version. "We shot for six months. We shot 963 hours of footage over six months. It was massive," he explained about the film, which follows the guys on the road, onstage and with their families.

"It's tough when you start editing down a film to 90 minutes. What do you keep? What do you get rid of? And ultimately, it's what continues to feed the narrative the best, what tells the best linear story. And that's what we kind of focused on," he said. "For me, the core of the movie is about dreams and it's about family and everything that inter-relates to that."

With the news of the extended version confirmed, there's also been some speculation that a sequel could also be in the works. At the "This Is Us" premiere, the guys told MTV News they'd be down for another (as long as Niall's nipples made the cut). Mentor Simon Cowell, meanwhile, co-signed a sequel as long as ...

Kanye West Disses Ray J During Surprise Performance On Jimmy Fallon

When Kanye West wants to pop in, you don't say no.

And when he's dropping by to perform the Yeezus track "Bound 2" with R&B legend Charlie Wilson, backed by the Roots, well, who could resist that? So when Jimmy Fallon tweeted "@kanyewest surprises Late Night and performs "Bound 2" with @theroots and kills it," on Monday night, you knew something special was in the offing.

And Kanye didn't disappoint. In his first-ever performance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" (as well as the live debut of the song) 'Ye let Wilson do the singing first, as the Gap band legend was in fine voice on the opening hook, "I know you're tired of loving, of loving" over majestic piano backing.

Moments later, the Roots kicked in full force, along with a six-voice children's chorus as West leaned into the song's reworked-for-TV opening bridge. In those lines, he took a not-so-subtle jab at his girlfriend Kim Kardashian's ex, Ray J, with a biting new couplet. "Brandy's little sister lame, man, he know it now," he rapped. "When a real brother hold you down you supposed to drown."

Wearing his signature black leather kilt over black leather pants, along with a green tank top and matching jacket, West was his typically fierce self, not censoring all the lyrics to the song and earning a few bleeps from the network censors.

All the while, Wilson soulfully scatted behind the rapper as 'Ye worked the stage, and, near the end of the almost five-minute performance, threw his head back and splayed his arms ...
