Superheroes may be overpowering everyone at the box office right now, but the new images from are a reminder that it won't be long until the apes once again inherit the earth.
In brand-new stills that debuted on USA Today, 20th Century Fox reveals vivid images of Caesar (Andy Serkis), now seasoned in his role as the leader of ape nation. Director Matt Reeves has expertly set up the much-anticipated sequel in a post-apocalyptic world, where the humans are grappling for survival after the deadly virus from the conclusion of "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" nearly wipes out humanity.
In one photo, Caesar is shown with a very expressive face, with a red streak down the center of his forehead, signifying that he's ready for war at all times. In another picture, an unnamed ape wields a shotgun, ready to fire on his enemies, which appear to be the five survivors from another still who also have their guns drawn.
Apes can definitely ride horses now as one picture shows them riding out like the cavalry. As it turns out, the MacGuffin for this film is power, not of absolute rule, but of precious electricity. The humans have no energy and the apes have the capability of creating hydra power using their land in Muir Woods. The humans, led by Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell, try to convince Caesar that they can co-exist with he and his clan, but that proves to be a tall order given their violent history.
