One Direction Say They’re Less ‘Teenage Dirtbag,’ More ‘Grimy’

Much to the delight of teenage girls all over the world, One Direction have frequently covered Wheatus' 2000 hit, "Teenage Dirtbag," in concert. And on Friday (August 30) they are taking that cover to the big screen in their Morgan Spurlock-directed documentary/concert film, .

During one of the more memorable concert scenes, the fivesome are re-imagined to look like comic book superheroes, thanks to some animated costumes, as they belt out the classic ode to crushing on a hot girl who doesn't know you exist. And, if you ask Niall Horan what he thinks of that particular sequence, he'll tell you "it's great."

Harry Styles then explained how the scene came to make it into the final cut of the flick, which gives fans an inside look at what it's like to be in 1D as they travel the globe from concert stop to concert stop, while also trying to have as normal of lives as they possibly can.

Styles said, "I think basically what happened was on our tour screens, it was all like comic book [looking] in the back. Someone decided to put it in, and it stayed."

With that sequence explained, Liam Payne then broke down why the fivesome are such big fans of the track and why they love to cover it live. "It suited us as well," he said. "We're just teenage lads having... while we're not saying we're dirtbags, but we're grimy characters."

Of course, these days the guys love a whole slew of other songs as well. They shared with MTV News what songs they ...

Fergie Gives Birth

Fergie is officially a mom! The Black Eyed Peas singer gave birth to her son, Axl Jack Duhamel, on Thursday (August 29), her rep confirmed.

It is the first child for the singer and her actor husband, Josh Duhamel. The couple married in January 2009 and after years of speculation about Fergie's midsection, the couple first announced the pregnancy back in February. They made the announcement via social media, telling fans, "Josh & Me & BABY makes three!! #mylovelybabybump!" Then in July, during an appearance on "Live With Kelly and Michael," Duhamel confirmed that the couple was expecting a baby boy.

Back in March, the singer opened up about becoming a mom for the first time, telling "Good Morning America," "I know that my husband told everybody what I said. My quote when we found out — 'This 'blank' just got real,'" she said. "But it's true. When that moment occurs to you, there's going to be a human being growing inside of you ... it's reality. It's amazing, we're thrilled."

In October 2010, at the premiere of his family-themed dramedy "Life as We Know It," Duhamel said that Fergie would be a great mom, eventually. Fergie "[is] not afraid of children; she just hasn't had as much experience with little ones. She's great with kids when they grow up a little bit more, when she can interact with them," he said.

Meanwhile, his co-star Katherine Heigl gave Josh a rave review. "Oh my God! The best of the best! He's fantastic," Heigl said at the time. "He's ...

Daniel Radcliffe Is ‘Ready To Go To The Next Level,’ Says ‘Tokyo Vice’ Director

Anthony Mandler's worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna and Jay Z during his 13 years as a music video director, and now he'll add an erstwhile boy wizard to his star-powered roster.

The auteur's next film project is the thriller "Tokyo Vice," which starring former "Harry Potter" lead Daniel Radcliffe. When MTV News caught up with Mandler at Sunday's Video Music Awards — he directed VMA-nominated videos "Carry On" (Fun.), "I Knew You Were Trouble" (Taylor Swift) and "Come & Get It" (Selena Gomez) — the helmer explained more about the project and Radcliffe's role.

"It's called 'Tokyo Vice.' It's written by Jake Adelstein," Mandler said. "It takes place in Tokyo. It's about an American that becomes a reporter at the Tokyo Times, and he breaks an incredible story about the Yakuza and about the reality of what it means to do that in regards to his safety and his life and whether it's actually worth it to bring the world that truth. It's very much like a '70s kind of thriller. So far it's been incredible. We're writing the script now. We're looking to start next year."

Radcliffe's been tackling increasingly mature roles in films like "Kill Your Darlings," "Horns" and "The F Word" since graduating from Hogwarts in 2011, and Mandler said "Tokyo Vice" is the next logical step in this progression.

"I think he's absolutely ready to go to the next level," Mandler said. "We sat down a couple of times and had some incredible meetings. His take on the work and on the book is right in ...

Jay Z Premieres Moody, Massive ‘Holy Grail’ Video

Jay Z's really taking this #newrules thing to heart. Having already released his album on Samsung phones and partnered with Budweiser on the Made in America festival, he's now joined forces with Facebook for the exclusive (for 24 hours, at least) premiere of his "Holy Grail" video ... not even collaborator Justin Timberlake's allegiances to MySpace could change his mind.

And Jay didn't stop there. Because while "Holy Grail" is most certainly a video befitting of its two marquee stars — big and beautiful, full of cinematic flourishes like flames, ghostly dancers and glass shattering in slow-motion, played out on massive sets and bathed in moody lighting — it also has the artful audacity to try something entirely new: Namely, mess with the source material.

In this case, that means the song, which folks seem to like very much in its current form (it's a fixture in Billboard's Hot 100 Top 10). But in the hands of Hov and director Anthony Mandler, "Holy Grail" becomes little more than a narrative device. They re-arrange verses and repeatedly slow the track down until it practically stops entirely, stretching Timberlake's vocals to the breaking point and adding extra heft to Jay's little verses. It's a trick that gives the entire video a colossal, almost monolithic weight ... the scenes feel massive, glacial. They do not move so much as the slowly drift, filling the viewer with a subtle, yet palpable sense of the magnitude of not just the track's stars, but its subject matter, too.

It would be easier to ...

Becky G Ready To ‘Groove’ On Austin Mahone’s Tour

Becky G is a rapper, singer, songwriter and a model who recently became the youngest COVERGIRL ever — pretty impressive for only being 16.

The Ingelwood, California, native got her start on YouTube back in 2011, and since then, has been featured on tracks with Cody Simpson and Cher Lloyd. But this year, Becky G has started to venture out on her own.

Back in April she released her debut single and video, "Becky from the Block," a remix of Jennifer Lopez's hit single, "Jenny from the Block," and even got Lopez to make a cameo in the video. She followed that up with the release of her EP, Play It Again, in July and just recently released a collaboration with fellow rising pop star, and 2013 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show performer Austin Mahone called "Magik 2.0."

Yet the collaboration with Mahone doesn't stop there, she will be featured as Mahone's opening act for his first-ever headlining tour, which is sponsored by MTV's Artist to Watch.

"It's super, super exciting to be working and to go on tour with somebody closer in age and going through the same things and have the same passions do the same things," Becky G told MTV News recently at COVERGIRL's Easy, Breezy, Brooklyn VMA event. "And he's just really a lot of fun to hang out with."

The tour kicks off October 17 in Miami and for all those attending, Becky G warns fans that there will be lots of dancing.

"I think you can expect my set to be fun," ...

James Spader As Ultron: Five Burning Questions About ‘Avengers 2’ Villain

Out of nowhere, James Spader has just been cast as the titular bad guy in "Avengers: Age of Ultron." The Emmy award-winning actor has signed on to play the team's most reviled villain, the artificial intelligence known as Ultron. Unlike other villain castings, though, the role isn't as cut and dry as one would initially think. This casting — and the press release's lack of details outside of Spader's name — has called into question a few things we already know about the evil robot, as well as created a few new ones.

Here are the five burning questions we have regarding James Spader's forthcoming turn as Ultron.

Just The Voice
Ultron possesses many powers, including heightened strength, stamina, durability, speed and reflexes in addition to flight capability and concussive energy blasts — but turning into a human has never been a prominent power of his. When Ultron shows up, he's all metal, all the time. This would indicate that Spader's signed on to at least voice the character, and at most, provide motion capture similar to how Mark Ruffalo brought the rampaging Hulk to life in last year's "Marvel's the Avengers." Spader's voice isn't particularly well-known, which would allow his disturbingly smooth tones to seamlessly blend in with the work of the animation team.

But other voice-only castings have been labeled as such from the get-go, like Bradley Cooper's rumored involvement as Rocket Raccoon's voice in "Guardians of the Galaxy." If Spader is only contributing his voice, wouldn't that have been part of the announcement?

A Human Ultron
Joss ...

‘Gravity’: How The Script Changed And Launched Sandra Bullock Into Space

As we heard yesterday, Alfonso Cuarón's "early reviews from Venice, the tale of two astronauts stranded in space has already captured the imaginations of film fans eager for the weightier fare of the fall movie season.

In anticipation of the upcoming season, MTV News spoke with Jonás Cuarón, who wrote "Gravity" with his dad, for our Fall Movie Preview, and we learned that the space movie had origins set in a very different place.

The story of "Gravity" started four years ago, when the younger Cuarón gave his dad a script to get his feedback, as he has always done, but Alfonso came back with another idea. "When he read it, he really didn't have that much feedback at the time," Jonás told us, "but he wanted to do something in a similar spirit."

Jonás' original idea was based on the premise of delivering 90 straight minutes of nonstop suspense, while still delivering characters and human emotions that the audience could connect with. "The idea was to do basically a roller coaster ride, but not only a roller coaster of adrenaline but also of emotions. We started talking about the best place to set the roller coaster," he said. "For several reasons, we both really like space exploration. In a way, if you're going to set up a story where a character is struggling and having to overcome several obstacles, there is no more terrifying place than space."

So Alfonso and Jonás had their concept and their setting. Now they needed a reason to put their astronauts in peril. Since the father-son duo ...

Kendrick On ‘Control’ Controversy: Maybe I’ll ‘Dumb Down’ My Lyrics Now

With his controversial verse, Kendrick Lamar challenged his rap peers to get better. So it's ironic that after the fallout from his fiery bars on the Big Sean track, K-Dot now feels like he may have to tone down his complex lyrics.

"It made me go back here and made me feel that I probably need to dumb down my lyrics nowadays, for people to take it way out of context the way they did," the Top Dawg MC said during an interview with Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg, which aired on Thursday morning (August 29).

Sean first released the song on August 12, and Lamar finally broke his silence surrounding the verse this week. He not only spoke on calling out his friends J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electronica, Tyler, the Creator and Mac Miller, Dot also addressed his fiery "king of New York" line, which a number of Big Apple MCs took exception to.

"I'm Makaveli's offspring, I'm the king of New York/ King of the coast, one hand, I juggle them both," Dot spits in his gravelly voice, putting his own spin on a Kurupt lyric from Terrace Martin's Internet single "Get Bizy."

"It's not about the [East and West] coasts, it's not about what side we're on," Lamar clarified, "it's about being great as Biggie, as 'Pac — the two cats that I referenced from jump." The Compton MC made a point to explain that he was referring to Tupac Shakur, who once recorded under ...
