Fall Out Boy Will Thank … Fall Out Boy If They Win A VMA

Sure, most people thank their mom, or God, or their fans or even the director of their video when they win a Moonman at the VMAs.

But after a five-year absence from the lineup during their hiatus, Fall Out Boy have much different plans in mind for the August 25 2013 MTV Video Music Awards from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"I feel like the VMAs is where ... if felt like our band was first embraced or recognized is some ways," said bassist Pete Wentz of the broadcast. "So it's really exciting to come full circle. Especially because this group of videos is really important to us and is really important to the story of the album."

The boys are nominated in the Best Rock Video category for the clip, which features 2 Chainz and his henchwomen dramatically setting fire to a pile of FOB albums and then trashing all their equipment with a blowtorch. Their competition includes Imagine Dragons ("Radioactive"), Mumford & Sons ("I Will Wait"), Thirty Seconds to Mars ("Up in the Air") and Vampire Weekend ("Diane Young").

It's their first trip back to the big show since 2008, when they were nominated in the same category for the song "Beat It."

And, if their name is called next month, Wentz told the rest of the band that he has some self-congratulatory expectations for them. "If we win anything for this damn record I want you to go on stage and say, 'Thank you ... us!'"

Jay-Z Explains His ‘Big Brother Thing’ With Kanye West

Jay-Z tried rap retirement once and it didn't work out so well for the veteran MC, so don't expect Hov to hang up his mic any time soon. There are still albums he intends to get out — including one in particular with Kanye West.

"There's always Kanye and Watch the Throne 2," Jay said during the final installment of his interview with the BBC's Zane Lowe.

Hov, who released his 12th solo album, Magna Carta Holy Grail on July 4, says that he had a good time working with 'Ye on their 2011 collaboration. He has been talking about doing a sequel since almost immediately after the first Watch the Throne was released, and lately the talks have picked up.

"You might see a Jay, then Kanye and a Throne album next year. You know, we're really in a great place creatively. We really found our zone," Hov told MTV News in December 2011.

It took a little longer than Jay predicted, but fans have since gotten the two solo albums and another Throne album would surely be welcomed. The two collaborators certainly have chemistry.

"It actually was really easy, because of the relationship. It's always been a big brother thing and a respect thing. It's always a good experience," he said of working with West, who dropped his solo album Yeezus in June. "He's going to challenge everything because he's really trying to test it and poke holes to make sure that it stands up. I admire that. It kind of works for me."

During the interview, Lowe asked ...

‘Catching Fire’ Trailer At Comic-Con: A Wish List

San Diego Comic-Con is off to a blazing start, with a number of the hottest, most-anticipated YA properties (we see you, "Divergent"!) firing up exclusive first looks, and the next few days promise more of the same.

To wit, on Saturday (July 20), Lionsgate will march out its box-office victor "The Hunger Games" to debut a brand-new trailer from the series sequel "Catching Fire", during a Hall H panel with the cast.

The first look, which premiered during this year's MTV Movie Awards, was heavy on pre-Quarter Quell action, following Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) on the Victory Tour trail, while hinting at the unrest growing throughout Panem and the dastardly solution being hatched by ruling President Snow (Donald Sutherland).

Now, if the "Catching Fire" roll-out follows the same model as "The Hunger Games," we shouldn't expect too much arena-centric footage in this new look, as that's usually reserved for the film's debut. But it's not out of the question to expect this second trailer to be much more tribute-centric. With that in mind, here are five things we hope to see among the new "Catching Fire" clips:

The Yellow Envelope
"I volunteer as Tribute!" will no doubt be one of the most indelible movie lines for years to come, and though Katniss' selection for the 75th annual Hunger Games is much less melodramatic — she finds out through a televised announcement — it's just as chilling, not to mention a necessary moment to set up a Games-focused trailer.

Justin Bieber’s ‘Heartbreaker’: What We Know So Far!

As summer temperatures heat up, so do the teases for Justin Bieber's next single, "Heartbreaker." The 19-year-old gave fans a juicy glimpse at the first cut from his in the late hours of Thursday night when he sang the song's first line a cappella in a post on Instagram, sending the Internet swooning into the night.

While fans still have a lot of questions about the single — like, when are they going to hear it? — MTV News has rounded up what we know about it so far. So press play on that Instagram teaser and study up.

Let's Get It On
The first lyric from the highly anticipated tune is right in line with Bieber's penchant for romantic "Hey Girl"-like sentiments. He tantalized fans with, "Ooh, girl, I got a secret place that we can go/ 'Cause girl, I really want to be alone/ And, baby, nobody else got to know ..."

The Key to Your Heart
With that lyric serving as the latest clue, earlier this week, Beiber teased some of the actual song in the commercial for his perfume, The Key. It's a straight-up R&B-influenced track, with a beat that sounds like it would be comfortable on a Drake track and a sexy groove to match it. During it, Bieber repeats the word "heartbreaker." So, maybe she didn't want to slip away with him after all?

Purple Heart(Breaker)
Bieber first amped up his fans about the song when he released the cover art for the track on Instagram back in June. The single artwork didn't feature Bieber's likeness, but ...

Comic Con: ‘X-Files’ Writers Want To Believe In Movie #3

On Thursday afternoon, Ballroom 20 at the San Diego Convention Center was given over to the commemoration of a television milestone: the 20th anniversary of "The X-Files." The Comic-Con; panel, hosted by TV Guide, featured many of the show's writer/producers, who have since gone on to helm series of their own. Vince Gilligan ("Breaking Bad"), Howard Gordon ("Homeland") and James Wong ("American Horror Story") were among those in attendance, as well as "X-Files" creator Chris Carter, who also co-wrote its two feature films.

The loudest applause was reserved for the series' two leads, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who played the show's pair of FBI agents, E.T. believer Fox Mulder and skeptical scientist Dana Scully. Duchovny and Anderson walked onto the darkened stage holding flashlights — implements regularly used by their "X-Files" characters as they investigated paranormal phenomena.

The panelists talked about their favorite moments and characters from the show, discussed its lasting legacy and even introduced a surprise guest: Producer John Shiban brought his son Jerry, who as an infant portrayed Mulder and Scully's baby, William, out from backstage to wave a quick hello. But they got the biggest audience reaction whenever the possibility of a third "X-Files" movie was mentioned.

Both actors expressed a willingness to make one. "The show was so flexible and could encompass so many different ideas," Duchovny said. "I always thought whenever we can do it, come back together, we would. So we will."

Anderson rejected the idea of bringing back "The X-Files" as a limited series like "24" is doing. "But a film would be ...

‘The Conjuring’: The Truth Behind The Horror

"Based on a true story." Horror fans are very used to hearing those words by now. But filmmaker James Wan didn't take the phrase lightly in his latest effort,

Wan's new thriller, in theaters now, takes place in the 1970s and tells the story of real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens were at the heart of several supernatural studies in their time, and "The Conjuring" focuses on one such case, dealing with a haunted Rhode Island farmhouse. Lorraine Warren is still alive today, and was consulted thoroughly throughout the making of "The Conjuring."

"I wanted to wear the 'based on a true story' label with a lot of pride," Wan told MTV News. "I wanted to be proud of that, I wanted it to be something I could really get behind. So we really researched and talked to the parents and to Lorraine Warren about every little thing, to build a world that I could get their stamp of approval on. If I can convince them, then I've done my job making a movie that pays respect to where they're from."

As the director of "Saw" and "Insidious," Wan is more than familiar with the horror genre. He's created outlandish ghosts and nefarious villains in his time. But with "The Conjuring," Wan sought something different for his latest form of terror: something real.

"I really wanted to ground the movie as much as I could," he said. "I honestly really believe that if I ground the movie as much as I can, the scares are much more effective."

The Warrens ...

San Diego Comic-Con: The Five Coolest Things Revealed At ‘Divergent’ Panel

SAN DIEGO — Watching the romance play out between exceptionally pretty people Shailene Woodley and Theo James in the latest dystiopian young adult novel to be adapted for the big screen, is something plenty of fans are looking forward to watching. But author Veronica Roth steered clear of the sexier scenes when it came time to visit the set of the movie.

"I kind of intentionally kept myself away from set on days when they were doing anything smoochy because I feel like that's just awkward, like that's just voyeuristic somehow," Roth told a packed Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con. That's probably the opposite of how most of us would do things, but hey, the lady created those characters, so it's her prerogative.

"Divergent" is set in a dystopian future Chicago, a walled-in, ruined city where the population is divided into five factions that devote themselves to personality traits like bravery, selflessness, and intelligence. Woodley's Tris is a selfless teen who transfers to the daredevil faction, and James plays her mentor. It shouldn't be a spoiler to say that a romance eventually blossoms.

Roth was joined at the panel by Woodley, James, director Neil Burger, and a ton of their supporting cast members to present the very first footage of the film, which is scheduled to come out March 21, 2014. Here are five takeaways from the panel, which brought the cast together in one of their very first public appearances:

James might be the most handsome human specimen to hit the Hall H stage in quite ...

Avril Lavigne Declares She’s ‘Motherfreaking Princess’ On ‘Rock N Roll’

If fans thought Avril Lavigne would soften with age, they were very wrong. On Lavigne's just-released new single, "Rock N Roll," she proudly declares, "I am the motherfreaking princess."

The upbeat, pop-punk song, the latest release from her forthcoming album, is a boisterous declaration of rebellion on which the 28-year-old Mrs. Chad Kroeger puts up her "middle finger to the sky" to "let 'em know that we're still rock and roll."

In the wake of the release, Lavigne's dedicated legion of fans has proudly jumped on the "Rock N Roll" bandwagon, upgrading her royal status to "queen." @YafitAsus wrote, "@AvrilLavigne What a fun!!! I jump. I dance. I'm so happy! Rock N' Roll so amazing Avril! I so love it! I so love you! THANK YOU MY LOVE."

Now that the track is out, fans can't wait to see what kind of video the newlywed might dream up. "@AvrilLavigne Rock N Roll sounds amazing!!!!" @AdmireBieber wrote. "So excited to see how the video's gonna look."

The track, sonically and thematically, picks up where her first single, left off, thanks to its sing-along chorus, rocking beat and carpe diem attitude.

Lavigne opened up to MTV News about it back in May, chatting about and how she doesn't feel she needs to embrace age on her music. "It's about wanting to be young forever," she shared. "Doesn't matter what age you are; it's all about your spirit, state of mind. And I know I certainly don't want to grow up, so there are more songs on the record like ...

Pharrell And Timbaland Have ‘Secret Disco Meetings’?

When it comes to producing and mixing music, we don't usually think of Ed Sheeran. After all, the kid only needs a guitar and his loop pedal and he's set. No soundboard needed.

But when you ask him about the state of music production these days, he has a wealth of ideas — especially when it comes to famed producers Timbaland and Pharrell. Ed thinks they're doing something fishy behind our backs.

"I think Timbaland and Pharrell must have this kind of secret meeting every year where they go, 'We're gonna change disco music this year,' " the VMA-nominated Sheeran told MTV News.

Timb and Skateboard P have been in the producing game for a minute, both catching on in the '90s, working with the biggest stars and even making their own albums. So how would a meeting between the two legends go down? Sheeran showed us through a bit of roleplay.

"You know what," Ed began, as Pharrell. "That stuff on the radio sounds shit, so I'm gonna work with Daft Punk and Robin Thicke, and you're gonna work with Timberlake and Jay-Z and we're gonna change the game for this year."

Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky:' Dated Disco, Or A Bold Reinvention Of Dance Music?

Despite the sensitive side Sheeran bases his songwriting off, there is a part of him that raves for dance music. And with Pharrell and Timbaland leading its reincarnation, he's hoping other producers will follow suit.

"They made disco music a genre again — like with 'Suit and Tie,' 'Blurred Lines' and with 'Get Lucky,' " he ...

Too Many ‘Spider-Man’ Villains? Marc Webb Tells Fans Not To Worry

SAN DIEGO— A video of Jamie Foxx in this glowing blue Electro getup from "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" announced that the web-slinger's new foe had arrived at San Diego Comic-Con, but anyone who has been paying attention to the news surrounding the sequel starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone knows that he isn't the only baddie showing up to the party.

Director Marc Webb was kind enough to stop by MTV News Comic-Con headquarters the night before the big Hall H panel, where he'll possibly showing footage from the recently wrapped film, and early in his talk with Josh Horowitz, he addressed concerns that "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" would suffer from the same problem other superhero sequels have had: too many villains.

"I'll tell you that the main villain in this movie is Electro," Webb said. "These movies are sort of on-going, and there are hints and teases of what's going to unfold in the future, but we were very focused on that simple conflict between Spider-Man and Electro. Electro is, to me, a really captivating and interesting villain because at this point, Spider-Man is really good at being Spider-Man. There is a level of virtuosity that is really fun to make and really fun to watch. Those abilities need to be challenged."

And from the way Webb talks about the electrifying villain as played by Foxx, it sounds like Spider-Man will have his hands full. "If you think about it, [Electro] is god-like in his power," Webb said. "He can disembody and go into electrical sockets. If you ...
