‘American Idol’ Castoff Amber Holcomb, Judges React To Thursday’s Elimination

bid adieu to Amber Holcomb on Thursday night's show, a result that wasn't really all that shocking considering she was firmly entrenched in the bottom two last week, and needed a ton of votes this week just to survive.

So when MTV News spoke to Holcomb backstage following her elimination, she was taking it in stride; in fact, she'd basically been preparing for it since wrapping up performances on Wednesday.

"Through the night, I was like 'You know, whatever happens, I'm going to be proud of my position.' Fourth? Out of thousands? That's amazing," she said. "Now, I'm ready to go on the 'Idols' tour, and just experience that and perfect that, and work on my future. Until then, I'm going to get to sleep, drive my far, see my best friend, and then sleep some more!"

And those sentiments were echoed by two of Holcomb's biggest supporters ... "Idol" judges Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, both of whom were sad to see her go, though not exactly shocked that she was sent home.

"I think based on the previous week's voting, and how she's often been near the bottom, has said something about the way she's connecting, or not connecting, through the camera, for whatever reason," Urban said. "We've all been supportive of her since day one, and have often been mystified by why she hasn't connected the way that she does with us."

Of course, as Minaj added, it doesn't matter that Holcomb came up short in her quest for the season 12 title; she's already a star in ...

‘Iron Man 3’ Aims To Smash Into Top Five Debuts Of All Time

The #1 movie in most of the world is about to grab the box-office crown in North America. Thus far, has beaten last year's kickoff of overseas, but will it do the same thing here?

The superhero sequel has already beaten the total international gross for 2008's "Iron Man," the movie that started it all for Marvel's Phase 1, which eventually led to the third biggest movie of all time, "The Avengers." "Iron Man 3" debuted with nearly $200 million last week and had made $307.7 million as of Wednesday. The total overseas gross for the first "Iron Man" was $267 million; "Iron Man 2" made $312 million overseas in 2010, which "Iron Man 3" will soon surpass.

As for the superhero sequel's landing in North America, Robert Downey Jr.'s third outing as billionaire inventor Tony Stark is expected to make somewhere between $150 million and $175 million, according to different reports. That won't be enough to match the record-breaking $207.4 million of last year's "Avengers" flick, which united the namesake heroes from "Iron Man," "Hulk," "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger."

But "Iron Man 3," which has received better reviews than its predecessor, could easily land in the top five debuts of all time (not adjusted for ticket price inflation). Aside from riding wave of last year's team-up, "Iron Man 3" also features Sir Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin, Iron Man's primary adversary in Marvel Comics mythology. Kingsley recently explained his approach to the character to MTV News: "[He has] such calmness, and such belief ...

Lindsay Lohan Flees Court-Ordered Rehab Just Minutes After Arrival

Lindsay Lohan was back in an all-too-familiar place on Thursday: legal limbo. The actress was facing another potential trip to jail after fleeing a court-ordered rehab
facility just moments following her arrival.

Lohan, 26, who was ordered to enter a 90-day, locked-down rehabilitation facility
in March after pleading no contest to reckless driving and lying to police, was originally expected to check into a rehab in New York, but changed her mind at the last minute, reportedly because that facility did not allow patients to smoke cigarettes.

She flew back to Los Angeles and arrived at Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach on Thursday, but, according to <>Us Magazine, checked out almost immediately. A source said that Lohan felt Morningside was, "Not suitable for her ... There were too many paparazzi everywhere and she didn't feel safe. Nobody close to her is happy about this. They think she's really not being smart."

The New York Daily News reported that Lohan never even stepped foot inside Morningside, but instead went shopping at an electronics store in nearby Fountain Valley, California. Estranged father Michael Lohan told the paper that after a prosecutor called him he intervened and stopped Lohan from boarding a flight back to New York.

"If she's not in Morningside, she's in violation of her probation," Santa Monica city attorney Terry White said. Part of the problem is that Lohan's attorney, Mark Heller, was in court on Thursday morning where he assured prosecutors that Lohan was checking into Morningside — which is not legally licensed to provide treatment ...

Chris Kelly’s Kris Kross Partner Mourns Death Of Best Friend, ‘Brother’

There's a bond that forms when two lifelong friends cross the crucible of sudden fame together as teenagers that is impossible to break. That was the message in an emotional note released by Chris Smith, the other half of 1990s hip-hop duo Kris Kross, the day after his partner Chris Kelly
was found dead on Wednesday of a suspected drug overdose.

"Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother," wrote Smith, known as Daddy Mac, in a statement, according to E! Online. "I love him and will miss him dearly. Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world with my best friend. It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection. KRIS KROSS FOREVER, the 'MAC DADDY' and 'DADDY MAC.'"

A look back at Chris Kelly's influential style.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner completed an autopsy
on the body of Kelly, 34, on Thursday that showed no signs of trauma or foul play, but was inconclusive. Though a drug overdose is suspected, an official cause of death will not be determined for several weeks as officials await the results of toxicology tests.

In a police report
on the incident obtained by MTV News, officers describe arriving at Kelly's home at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday in response to a report of a death. Paramedics found Kelly, also known ...

‘Iron Man 3’: The Reviews Are In!

If you've been stuck on Asgard or somehow stranded in the 1940s, then you might not know that the highly anticipated third installment of Tony Stark's solo superhero story, has arrived in theaters.

Almost more of a follow-up to 2012's mega-blockbuster team-up film "The Avengers" than 2010's anemic "Iron Man 2," the film examines the aftermath of the worldwide alien invasion that Stark survived a near-death experience in order to defeat.

Robert Downey Jr. reprises the character that made him an international star, and his onscreen lady love Gwyneth Paltrow and best pal Don Cheadle return in the roles of Pepper Potts and Colonel James Rhodes, respectively. Although "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" helmer Jon Favreau returns, this time it's only in an acting and producing capacity, turning directing duties over to Shane Black, whose last effort behind the camera was "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," which also starred Downey.

Reviews thus far have been mostly positive, owing as much to the disappointment many had with part 2 as the fertile creativity of Black as writer and director. But others found the film as crass and money-grubbing as any of its record-shattering predecessors. Check out a cross section of reviews for "Iron Man 3":

Marvel Manufactures Another Hit
" 'Iron Man 3' benefits immeasurably from the irreverent quicksilver humor of co-writer and director Shane Black, whose obvious rapport with Robert Downey Jr. in his only other directorial outing, 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,' is further manifest here. Brandishing at least a couple of killer twists, this Disney release (having taken over from co-presenter Paramount) ...

‘American Idol’ Results: No More Second Chances

Amber Holcomb's journey came to an end Thursday night (May 2), as the 18-year-old Houston, Texas, native was voted off the show in a tearful goodbye. Holcomb's exit leaves a top three of Angie Miller, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison.

Holcomb had a strike against her going into this week, as she placed in last week's bottom two, and since no one was eliminated last week, votes were combined from last week and this week's performance episodes. More than 81 million votes were cast over the two weeks, according to host Ryan Seacrest.

Holcomb, compared to a young Whitney Houston by judge Nicki Minaj this season, sang Houston's "I Believe in You and Me" as her exit song. At the close of the song, she broke down in tears, leaving Mariah Carey crying at the judges' table.

On Wednesday's performance episode, Holcomb received mixed reviews for her take on Pink and Nate Ruess' "Just Give Me a Reason" but wowed the judges with her simmering take on "My Funny Valentine" — despite revealing that she figured the song was about "a guy, who I guess they're being like really funny and weird."

In reviewing the week's performances, "Idol" mentor Jimmy Iovine said she "crushed" "My Funny Valentine," while acknowledging she had "a lot of ground to make up" from last week. "Is this enough to save her? I don't know, but I hope so," he said.

Holcomb was in the bottom two along with Harrison. Now Harrison, along with Miller and Glover — the week's top two finishers — is headed home for ...
