The Flaming Lips Wonder: Does Justin Bieber Get Depressed?

For anyone who's been following the Flaming Lips' career trajectory over the past decade — during which time they've released three increasingly claustrophobic studio albums, two collaborative records and a more gelatin-based products than Jell-O — their latest effort, The Terror, probably isn't all that shocking.

After all, with its dark, dense drones, bleak lyrics and somnambulant sequencing (the songs on The Terror don't so much end as they do bleed into one another), it seems like the next step down the path the band began walking with 2006's At War With The Mystics and '09's Embryonic ... a path that has continued to lead them further and further away from their sunniest — and most successful — album, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots.

And, again, if you've loved the Lips for 30 years now, this kind of dramatic reinvention is nothing new. But, if you're looking for the bright-and-shiny sequel to "Do You Realize??" well, you're out of luck (and you'll probably really dislike The Terror.) Because on this album, there's the no sunshine to speak of; shoot, there isn't even any light.

"There's no light at the end of the tunnel; we're just singing about how there's no light. Part of the power of this type of record is that it's not trying to lift up the sun; some Flaming Lips music is this very optimistic, almost a 'Star Wars' [sentiment,] of 'We'll defeat the universe!' which is great, that's what music's for," Lips mastermind Wayne Coyne told MTV News. "I just think some of this ...

Selena Gomez ‘Hid’ After Meeting Brad Pitt At MTV Movie Awards

When Selena Gomez sauntered onstage for her inaugural MTV Movie Awards performance Sunday night, it was with the confident, sexy presence of a young woman. And while her first live performance of "Come & Get It" proved her Disney days are over, an introduction backstage shortly after had the 20-year-old giddy with girlish glee.

Fresh off the Movie Awards stage, Gomez was in her dressing room when she heard seven words that had the 14-year-old inside shaking with nerves. "Brad Pitt would like to come in."

When the singer stopped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Tuesday (April 16), she told DeGeneres she was careful to "play cool" in the presence of Mr. Pitt. But as soon as he left, she "hid under the craft service table for like, two minutes." "I couldn't believe it was happening," the explained to the talk-show host.

"He was like, 'Can I have a picture with you?' I was like, 'Can I have a picture with you?'" she said, still star-struck from the introduction. "He's so pretty."

From there, Ellen inevitably and warily steered toward ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. The two A-listers called it quits back in November after more than a year together. "I know you want to talk about you and Bieber not being together anymore. It's important to you so.... Go ahead," DeGeneres said, hopefully turning to a now-reticent Gomez.

After her sheepish laugh communicated a loud and charming "no comment," DeGeneres wanted to at least know that the star is OK.

"I met Brad Pitt," she said, confidently avoiding the ...

N.O.R.E. Reveals Student Of The Game Sequel On The Way

N.O.R.E.'s new album, Student of the Game, hasn't even been out a full day yet and already the rapper, who now goes by P.A.P.I., is gearing up to create a sequel to his latest LP. Student of the Game II: Dyslexia won't be an insignificant follow-up, though, because it has special meaning to the Queens, New York, rapper.

"I am dyslexic. A lot of people don't know that," Noreaga revealed to MTV News when he stopped by the Newsroom on Tuesday (April 16), the same day his album dropped. "A lot of people think that I pronounce words funny ... people think that it's part of my character but, actually, it's me in real life."

Rather than be ashamed of the learning disability, N.O.R.E. has embraced it and says his creativity is a positive result of the condition. "It doesn't mean that I'm stupid, it doesn't mean that I'm ignorant, it just means that I learn different from you. And that's the reason why [the album is titled] Student of the Game, because I learn different from the average individual," he explained. "I just figured, you know what, that's the 'part two' to it."

Not to be overlooked, the brand-new SOTG finds the rap veteran mixing his old and new-school hip-hop influences to form a 19-track album that takes quite a few detours. There's the rambunctious club-slapper with 2 Chainz, Pusha T and French Montana on the hook. To balance tracks like that out, N.O.R.E. hooks up with respected boom-bap producer Large Professor on "Built Pyramids." The C-N-N rapper ...

‘Awkward.’ Cast Promises Dark, Shirtless Drama In Season Three

It's almost time for things to get again. The hit MTV series premieres on Tuesday (April 16) night, and given how much action has gone down in the last two seasons for Jenna Hamilton and her pals, season three will certainly up the ante, the cast promises.

"Jenna's going to go to a whole new level of dark," star Ashley Rickards explained to MTV News prior to the big premiere at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. "And I am so excited to play it as an actress. And I think the fans will just love it."

According to the trailer, Jenna might be with Matty (finally), but soon, a new fella comes to town: Colin (played by Nolan Gerard Funk). His casual, romantic Jane Austen references in conversations show he might be giving hunky Matty a run for his money. Jake and Tamara also have a love blooming, and Jillian Rose Reed promises that they will "make out, a lot" in season three.

In addition to some PDA, Matty will once again pop up shirtless. And, Brett Davern teases he's more topless than ever before. Brett said, "Beau Mirchoff is shirtless, like the entire season. Actually it's more than it's ever been, pretty much. He hasn't eaten in like 3 months. Poor guy. He just comes to set and does pushups."

We spoke to Beau back in March, who also weighed in on the new season, adding that Jenna and Matty will try and take their relationship up a few emotional notches.

"Matty and Jenna have had this opportunity to really ...

‘Pitch Perfect 2’ In Tune At Universal

Just days after pitch-slapping the 2013 MTV Movie Awards with a brand-new musical mash-up, Universal Pictures announced an encore performance for the cast of "Pitch Perfect" — a movie sequel.

The studio broke the news at CinemaCon (via /Film) that "Pitch Perfect 2" will hit theaters sometime in 2015, with writer Kay Cannon attached. It's not known yet whether stars Anna Kendrick or Rebel Wilson will return.

Rumors had been circulating since late last year that the studio was mulling a sequel. In December, star Skylar Astin told MovieWeb that he was in discussions with Universal regarding a potential follow-up.

"I do have a meeting with a Universal representative next week," he said. "And I know that Rebel Wilson had hers last weekend. It's definitely a talking point."

Since its theatrical release in October, "Pitch Perfect" has grossed more than $113 million worldwide, while its soundtrack has spent the last 28 weeks on the Billboard charts. In fact, Kendrick released a brand-new music video for her song "Cups," (directed by "Pitch Perfect" helmer Jason Moore) just days before the Movie Awards performance.

The cast, including Wilson, Astin, Anna Camp, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Hana Mae Lee, Ben Platt, Brittany Snow and Utkarsh Ambudkar opened the awards ceremony on Sunday with an aca-awesome mash-up of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb," Eminem's "Lose Yourself," Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire" and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop."

Universal also announced a 2015 release date for the sequel to "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Michael Bay’s ‘Ninja Turtles’ Is ‘Sick,’ ‘Guaranteed’ To Shock Detractors

It's a new dawn for the but not everyone is ready to join in on the pizza party just yet.

The heroes in a half-shell are returning to the big-screen in 2014 with "Ninja Turtles," directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay. Yes, the Michael Bay — the same man behind "Transformers," a highly lucrative series of films, but one that many longtime fans of the franchise didn't embrace. Bay's involvement in yet another beloved geek-friendly property has left several "Turtles" loyalists worried about the "Bayhem" to come.

But one of the stars of "Ninja Turtles" — Alan Ritchson, who plays cool but rude Raphael — says the director's detractors are in for a shock.

"People think they know what this movie is about," he told MTV News on the red carpet of the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. "But they have no idea. It's going to blow people away, guaranteed."

Ritchson said he relates to fans who grew up with the "Turtles" toys, cartoons and comics. "I grew up with it, too! When I heard about it, I was like, 'Oh, I don't know. Do I really want this? It's Michael Bay. He tends to be more popcorn than a lot of people like,'" he admitted. "But as soon as I saw the renderings they have for these characters, I knew how sick this was going to be."

"It's going to be huge," he said.

For Bay, "Ninja Turtles" isn't just another adaptation. It's also a reunion with his original "Transformers" leading lady, Megan Fox, who stars in "Turtles" ...

Fall Out Boy’s Save Rock And Roll Success Has Them Feeling ‘Like A–holes’

It's been nearly five years since Fall Out Boy's last album, and almost four since their now-infamous "hiatus." In that time, FOB's four members have released solo albums, experimented with electronics, and formed side projects ... but never seemed all that interested in getting the band back together.

Which is why the idea of Fall Out Boy reuniting — let alone recording a new album — seemed an impossibility. Only, in February, the impossible happened: FOB announced their return, kicking off a frantic, two-month scramble that has included triumphant shows, eye-catching music videos, and, of course, a brand-new record, Save Rock And Roll, which hits stores Tuesday. Comeback complete.

So, on a day many thought would never come, MTV News emailed FOB frontman Patrick Stump to get his take on the band's long journey back, the overwhelming reception they've received from their fans, and the success of their new album ... all of which he's still having a difficult time wrapping his head around.

"Not in a million years [did I expect this]. As I'm writing this, we have the number one album on iTunes and the number ten single," Stump wrote. "For a band that felt like a longshot the first time we got struck by career lightning to go away for a few years and sell records against powerhouses like Justin Timberlake ... If we expected to succeed on this scale? We'd be a--holes."

And that success is even sweeter, considering that there was a point when Stump believed Fall Out Boy was finished. It ...

Miley Cyrus, will.i.am Tumble Into Lyrical Love On ‘Fall Down’

Miley Cyrus is a former Disney princess who is quickly becoming the queen of collaborations. On Tuesday, she added another one to her growing roster of features when will.i.am released his new #willpower single, "Fall Down."

The tune is a bit cheeky and very party-ready. In addition to a signature will.i.am-approved club beat, it also has unexpected moments, like a whistle and orchestral samples. The album's latest single finds the Black Eyed Peas frontman and Miley in a bit of a lyrical love affair, with a fist-pumping chorus and lyrics like, "Boy, just be my lollipop/ Let me, let me lick you up."

"Fall Down" comes just weeks after she dropped her Rasta-inspired feature on Snoop Lion's Reincarnated track, Snoop told MTV News the partnership was a no-brainer, saying, "We're both going through transformation. We both love making music and doing what we do and speaking from our hearts, and it's just a great collaboration."

Proving that she's up for anything these days, she also recently partied with Tiffany Foxx and Lil' Kim in Foxx's . Fox told MTV News that she fit in with her crew perfectly. "It's crazy because she's so cool. She is so cool. It felt like I have been knowing her all my life," she said. "She's real ...

Beyonce Rocks ‘Nipple’ Bodysuit For ‘Mrs. Carter’ Tour Kickoff

Eye-catching is just one of the words that could be used to describe Beyoncé's just-launched Mrs. Carter Show Tour. Queen Bey kicked off the jaunt on Monday night in Belgrade, Serbia, at the Kombank Arena. Not only did she bust out some of her biggest tunes, but she stunned the crowd in a number of dazzling, even provocative looks.

In photos taken at the show, Bey rocks any number of sparkly bodysuits, including a glowing black cat-suit and a sparkly Janet Jackson-inspired baseball cap (with cat ears!). But there's one look in particular that's sure to shock the BeyHive. At one point during the show, Beyoncé hits the stage in a gold-sequined bodysuit that accentuates her chest in a way that leaves very little to the imagination. While fans don't actually see anything, the bedazzled get-up makes it appear that the pop star's chest is on full display — with, well, erect nipples.

As for the set list making the rounds online, new tunes from Bey's highly anticipated album were noticeably missing. And while she has dropped the single and teased , she kept the set list to previously released jams on the first night of her tour.

According to a Just Jared report, Beyoncé begins the night with her anthem "Run the World (Girls)." From there, it's more hits from her solo albums, as well as a little Destiny's Child sprinkled in. "I just have to say, I'm so happy to be here tonight," she told her Serbian fans in a video posted ...
