‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’: What’s Marvel’s Secret?

There's something special about the Marvel Studios movies.

Is it the casting? That's part of it. Choices that seem left of center at first glance, like Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, become a key part of the Marvel movies' success. The same can be said about the directors the studio implements. Take Jon Favreau, for instance. With little more than indie and comedy experience at the time, Favreau was an instrumental factor in "Iron Man" and launching the greater Marvel franchise.

That greater Marvel franchise, too, is something that virtually all other comic book films have attempted to emulate since Nick Fury first told Stark about "the Avengers initiative" at the end of "Iron Man." Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe exists, every studio wants a shared universe of its own.

All of these elements, and more, are key to the Marvel Studios success story. But the success boils down to an even simpler ingredient: Confidence.

At the premiere in Los Angeles last month, Falcon actor Anthony Mackie praised Marvel for the studio's bold decision making and creative choices.

"They have great taste," he told MTV News. "They have the confidence and ability that if something does not work, they go back and make it work. That's part of making quality films."

That confidence trickles all the way down from executives like Kevin Feige to directors like Joe and Anthony Russo to cast members like Samuel L. Jackson, who has played one-eyed super-spy Nick Fury in six Marvel films and counting. Indeed, there are few ...

‘The Voice’ Recap: Second Round Of Battles Leaves Adam Feeling ‘Stupid’

"The Voice" debuted its new level of competition Monday night (March 31) as coaches Adam Levine, Shakira, Usher and Blake Shelton sent their singers into the arena for the second round of battles.

Instead of having eight singers on their teams as playoffs kick off, each coach has been tasked with downsizing to five — four battle winners, and one final steal. After revealing their opponents, the coaches gave the singers a list of three songs to choose from, and the pair got expert advise from Coldplay's Chris Martin before duking it out one last time on the battle stage.

Here's how the first night of the newest level of competition went down:

Sign, Sealed And Stolen
With only one steal available for each coach, Levine, Shakira, Usher, and Shelton swore they would hold out until they were blown away. Well, that didn't take too long for Shakira and Usher, both using their steal that first night.

The first steal happened when Team Blake's Jake Worthington and Tess Boyer hit the stage. It was a battle of "second chances" as Shelton's comeback cowboy and second steal pick duked it out. Shakira praised Boyer for being a "revelation to all of us" and Levine compared their performance to one he would see at the Grammys. After admitting that he now fears for his liver due to the tough decisions he'd have to make, Shelton declared Jake Worthington the winner. But it wasn't long until the other three coaches hit their steal button for Tess Boyer. She landed herself a spot on ...

Twisty Mystery ‘We Were Liars’ Launches Submit-Your-Secret App

Cadence Sinclair is many things. A child of privilege. An heir to a dynasty. A pawn in the game nobody in her family will admit to playing. A girl with a trust fund, a broken heart, and a big, black hole where her memory of her fifteenth summer should be.

But most of all, Cadence Sinclair is a Liar.

And that's about all we can tell you when it comes to the story of "We Were Liars," the book by E. Lockhart that everyone will be reading, and re-reading, this summer. It's twisty, it's mysterious, and it's got a surprise ending that'll knock your socks off and which we wouldn't dare spoil for ya.

However, we can tell you to how to start getting pumped for the book's release in May: Through the "We Were Liars" filter app on Tumblr, where you can become a beautiful, privileged, damaged Liar yourself and add your own terrible fib — or terrible truth — to a Sinclair-style photo album that will give an elegant, old-money look to even your most heinous confessions. Upload yours here, and read on below for some exclusive secrets from E. Lockhart herself about the truth behind her Liars.

If we had to sum up this book in "x meets y" format, it might be something like "Rich Kids of Instagram meets King Lear meets Memento" — all set against the backdrop of a private island where generations of Sinclairs meet each summer.

Of her island setting and the family who lives there, the author said, "I was inspired by novels about ...

O-Town Reunite, Make Our Liquid Dreams Come True

O-Town fans: Your most liquid of dreams are coming true. That's right, the early '00s boy band is reuniting, and they've got some new tunes in tow.

The band, which formed during Making The Band in 2000, relaunched their website Monday (March 31), writing: "This one's for the fans and everyone who supported us from the beginning."

"We started this reunion purely for the fun of it," Jacob Underwood told Billboard. "We had discussed a summer tour to perform our old songs and finally give the fans what they've been asking us for the last 10 years. However, once we began working, what developed was something a little more ambitious. The ideas kept flying and we couldn't help but start making new music."

According to a video posted to their site, the guys will be doing it alone this time — sans TV show, manager, label, etc.

O-Town had their heyday in the early aughts, selling 1.7 million copies of their self-titled album and scoring hits with singles "Liquid Dreams" and "All Or Nothing."

After releasing their sophomore record, O2, in 2002, the band broke up in 2004.

The new iteration of O-Town will include Erik-Michael Estrada, Dan Miller, Trevor Penick and Jacob Underwood. Ashley Parker Angel will not be making a return visit to O-Town, however.

This isn't the first time the band has buzzed about a reunion — or that Angel has declined to participate. Underwood tweeted, "Did someone say O-town reunion?!?" in 2011, with Angel's rep subsequently telling TMZ: "O-Town was one of the greatest chapters ...

Karmin Are Ready To Sweat Like Gwen Stefani On Tour: Watch

Karmin's new album is finally here. And while the duo, Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, can't wait for you to hear their three-year-in-the-making debut, they're even more excited for you to experience it live.

"I want [fans] to listen [to Pulses] and be like, this is really, I connect to so many different songs in this, this is amazing. It's sonically ... it's different and it's fresh but I am so curious about this I want to see them live and see what it's really about," Nick told MTV News. "Our live show still is our favorite part, we are ... everybody that sees our live show is like, I did not expect that, so if you love the album, make sure to come see us live."

So what exactly does a Karmin concert look like? Well, according to the pair, it's very similar to the stage show of one of Amy's idols: Gwen Stefani.

"It's a high-energy show. If you remember No Doubt back in the '90s, they also did push-ups onstage and a lot of sweating and jumping around and crowd participation, and that's really what a Karmin show feels like. It's almost like a rock show," she said.

Also joining them for the second leg of their Pulses Tour in April is labelmate Bonnie McKee. Although both members of Karmin are pumped to have her as an opening act, Amy is especially looking forward to having a female friend along for the adventure.

"I'm a huge fan of her and her energy and personality is — I'm just excited to ...

Fifth Harmony Pie Demi Lovato In The Face (And Also Announce New Tour)

Things got a little messy between Demi Lovato and Fifth Harmony on the final night of the Neon Lights tour.

In an effort to thank Demi for employing them as an opening act for her tour, the girls of 5H decided to give her a bit of a parting gift ... in the form of a pie in the face.

Demi is seen talking with the girls backstage after the show, chatting about how she's headed back to Los Angeles. Soon after, Dinah Hansen says to Demi, "I just want to say I love you," before smashing her in the face with a cream pie. A stunned but still smiling Demi tries to wipe some of the pie on the other girls before addressing Dinah: "When I see you in L.A., your ass is mine."

Jokes and pranks aside, 5H were truly grateful to be a part of the tour, with the girls tweeting their thanks to the "Neon Lights" singer, whom they first met when they were formed on the "X Factor" in 2012.

But the "Miss Movin' On" singers aren't slowing down now that the tour is wrapped up, because they are now gearing up for their own stint on the road. On Monday (March 31), the fivesome announced their Fifth Time's a Charm tour, which kicks off May 3 in Georgia. The nearly two-month tour has them traveling all over the United States, with stops in New York, Maryland, Chicago, California and more.

Here are Fifth Harmony's tour dates:

»5/3 - Valdosta, GA @ Wild Adventures
»5/31 - Mansfield, ...

One Direction Look Like They’re Smelling Farts, Not Perfume, In New Ad

Happiness. Shock. Confusion. Love. What do you look like when you're feeling "that moment"?

Well, according to One Direction in an ad for their new fragrance, That Moment, it's all of the above.

Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn work with a very special photographer for the spot. His name is Girolle, an inspired photog with a jewel-crusted crotch and a disregard for the guys' names. Niall turns into Nail, and Zayn is reduced to a bunch of Zzzzzzs.

Girolle instructs them to portray the fragrance's smell in just one look — which looks as hard as it seems. Harry, doesn't look in love; it looks like he's sniffing a fart.

Watch the teaser ad (and an even longer one at the OneDirectionFragrance.com website) and tell us who makes the cutest face when Girolle tells them to find "that moment."

Which One Direction member has the cutest pose in their new ad?
