Who Has The Best Hip-Hop Album Of 2014, So Far? Rappers Weigh In

by 35 mins ago

(Rappers weigh in on the Best Hip-Hop Album of 2014)

We’re past the halfway mark in the year, so it’s time to pose the question: Who’s dropped the Best Hip-Hop Album of 2014, so far? There have been a few notable releases from artists including YG, Rick Ross, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul, so we’ve definitely got enough material to work with.

Plenty of rappers walked the red carpet at the BET Awards late last month, so we decided to stick a few of them with the question. Hear what they had to say in the video above. August Alsina definitely got away with a diplomatic answer, by the way.

Go Behind-The-Scenes Of Vic Mensa’s ‘Feel That’ Video

by 18 mins ago

If Vic Mensa’s music hasn’t given you enough clues about what he’s really into, then his video for “Feel That” will pull the curtain back a little further.

The Chicago rapper took MTV News behind-the-scenes on his video set, and we weren’t mad at what we saw. Vic was posted up on a red velvet couch, with a plate of food and a stripper werkin’ hard in front of him. No objections here.

“The video completely reflects the vibe of the song,” he said. “I see music in colors and this one was like green, orange, purple, dark hues and that’s what the video is.”

He explained that the song actually came together during the wee morning hours of a studio session, since delirium sometimes breeds the best material.

Vic Mensa’s INNANETAPE Was Inspired By A Night Of Tweakin’

“Me and [Smoko Ono] was in the studio one day and I’d made a different record, and then I was like, ‘man, put on the beat, lemme just freestyle over over one of your beats,’” Vic said, recalling that fateful night. “It was like middle of the night — we’d been in the studio all evening — I was talking sh– in the booth, and I said ‘I feel that.’”

And the rest is history. Smoko asked him to repeat “Feel That” a few times, and then it just stuck.

The video for “Feel That” premieres on Wednesday, July 16, on MTV Jams, MTV Hits, AMTV and AMTV2 2. And if you’re still ...

Will Eminem Participate In The Next ‘Total Slaughter’ Battle Rap Event?

by 20 mins ago

Shady Records’ “Total Slaughter” battle rap event took over Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, on Saturday night and judging from the reaction, it’s safe to say that there’s enough demand to warrant a second show.

And, maybe Eminem will actually be present for the next one, since Hollow Da Don was bold enough to take shots at his manager Paul Rosenberg on stage — and apparently piss off Shady.

Hollow da Don faced off with Slaughterhouse’s Joe Budden for the main event of the night, going three rounds and coming out on top when Joey gave a lackluster showing in his final round. The New Jersey rapper actually threw down his mic in surrender because the crowd wouldn’t stop booing during round three, making the judges’ decision a pretty easy one.

During Hollow’s freestyles, he took shots at Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg and former Interscope president, Jimmy Iovine for messing with his money. Bold words, since Eminem’s team put the event together, but maybe that will command an appearance from Shady next time around.

Earlier in the night Murda Mook defeated Loaded Lux, Arsonal beat Big T and T-Rex got the best of Daylyt, who decided to literally strip off his clothes during their final round on stage.

Back in January, the members of Slaughterhouse appeared on “RapFix Live” to announce the launch of “The Road to Total Slaughter” reality show, which led up to the live battle. Royce, Joey, Crooked I and Joell explained why this was such ...

Waka Flocka’s Still Serious About His EDM Album So He Gave It A Title

by 26 mins ago

Waka Flocka Flame has been pretty busy on the road (and planning his wedding on “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta”) but he isn’t backtracking on plans to drop an EDM album this year.

We still don’t have a release date, but now there’s a title, so it must be real.

The Atlanta rapper told XXL that his new project will be called Turn Up God, and he hopes to release it before the end of 2014, along with Flockaveli 2.

In his downtime, Waka’s been pretty busy jumping out of planes and hitting the driving range with Girl Talk. Maybe all of this is just training for the EDM project? Adrenaline is key.

Watch Lil Wayne Tell The Story Of His First Seizure And The Birth Of His Solo Career

by 1 min ago

Lil Wayne tells the best stories. Not only does he casually throw around words like “unknowledgeable” — without knowing if it’s even in the dictionary — but somehow he manages to turn scary things like seizures into a feel-good tale.

In his latest installation of “Weezy Wednesdays,” Tune takes us back to the early era of Cash Money, before he was a breakout solo star. He starts by setting up the elaborate concert scenes, where Baby and Mannie Fresh would emerge from massive diamond Rolex watch stage props, and he would descend onto the stage in a chopper.

The severity of Wayne’s seizures became public knowledge recently, but during those early years he simply thought they were hot flashes.

At one particular show, he passed out from one of those “hot flashes” and was unable to perform for a while. The crowd was never happy to hear about his absence, and when he finally returned to the stage it was a pretty triumphant moment … one that he considers the birth of his solo career.

Get a snack, sit down, and enjoy the full story above. This summer he’ll be heading out on the Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour, where he’ll literally battle his protege, Drizzy, onstage.

Rihanna And Miley Cyrus Get Shout-Outs On French Montana’s ‘R&B Chicks’

by 4 mins ago

Guess it’s too soon for French Montana to be making songs about reality TV stars? His latest release, “R&B Chicks” features Wale and Fabolous, and the title pretty much says it all.

The three rappers run through a slew of names, shouting out all of the lovely ladies they’d like to shack up with. Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Tinashe, Ashanti, Christina Milian — and even Madonna, are namedropped.

Wale also give a special wink to Mary J. Blige rapping, “I’m young enough to be your son but what’s the 411?” And we cringed a little.

French is currently working on his Mac and Cheese 4 album, which he’s planning to drop in November. Expect to hear collaborations with Kanye West on the project. This week we got new photos of him and his lady, Khloe Kardashian, on set of his “Don’t Panic” video.

Hear French talk about his upcoming work with ‘Ye, in the video below.

Did Stacey Dash Just Say Kanye West Should Go To Prison And Learn About Rape?

by 38 mins ago

Sorry Kanye West, Stacey Dash definitely doesn’t understand where you’re coming from. Over the weekend, ‘Ye performed at the Wireless Festival in London, and his ranting made headlines once again. He was quoted as comparing the paparazzi’s intrusion in his life to rape, which drew plenty of criticism.

One of those critics was Yeezy’s “All Falls Down” video co-star Stacey Dash, who voiced her opinion on the matter on Fox’s “Outnumbered” talk show.

“For Kanye to say ‘rape,’ maybe he needs to spend some time on Rikers Island,” Dash said, referring to the New York City penitentiary. “Go to Rikers for a while, and then he’ll know what rape is.”

She also added that the paparazzi are “just doing their job,” and pointed fingers at Kanye for being disrespectful to them. “If you’re nice, if you’re polite to them, they leave you alone,” she said. “It’s when you start to call them names and act crazy and put your hands up and do all this drama that they make it a big deal.”

Yikes.

Meek Mill Put His Wale Beef Aside To Go Help Philly Fire Victims

by 36 mins ago

Meek Mill surprised everyone on Tuesday, when he suddenly lashed out at his labelmate Wale on Twitter, but after all of the drama he was out in his hometown, Philadelphia, trying to do something positive in the community.

The 27-year-old rapper visited the site of a fatal fire in Southwest Philly that claimed the lives of four children on Saturday. “I just wanted to come by and show my support to all of the families and everybody that was hurt by this situation,” he told NBC Philadelphia.

“I feel I’m in a position where I can help these people. Anything I can do to help them with their losses, I’m gonna do it,” he continued.

Meek visited the site just one day after protesters congregated in front of the city’s Engine 40 & Ladder 4 firehouse, accusing firefighters of a delayed response to the flames. The mayor has denied that there was any delay, but it hasn’t quelled the outraged.

Meek vowed to donate money to the families who suffered because of the fire.

Do Usher And Nicki Minaj Have Another Hit? Listen To ‘She Came To Give It To You’

by 3 mins ago

We’re forecasting a little bit, but it seems like Usher has a banger on his hands. The latest single from his untitled eighth album is “She Came to Give it to You,” with a feature from Nicki Minaj and production from Pharrell.

This is Usher and Nicki’s second collabo (following 2010′s “Lil Freak”), and these two really do well together. This time, they teamed up over P’s funky, horn-heavy disco beat, making this one a potential hit in the clubs.

Nicki complements Usher’s tale of love in the club with her own ferocious bars that actually manage to promote safe sex — like only her Minajesty can.

Now we’re wondering if Ursh might make an appearance on Nicki’s upcoming third album, The Pink Print.

Wale Responds To Meek Mill’s Rant, Very Thoughtfully

by 23 mins ago

Three hours feels like an eternity on the Internet, and that’s approximately how long it took for Wale to write a response to Meek Mill’s accusations of him “hating.” The D.C. rapper wanted to say so much that he actually took it to Instagram, so he could go way beyond 140 characters.

Meek was upset that Wale hasn’t tweeted anything in support of his upcoming album Dreams Worth More Than Money, after the release date was announced on Monday.

In his rebuttal, Wale pointed out that just a few weeks back he was still trying to show support, by talking up Meek’s single “I Don’t Know.” He also admitted that he’s come to terms with the fact that he doesn’t exactly fit the mold of what a typical rapper should be.

Read Wale’s response below.

“Few weeks ago. (7w) I posted this .but ok. Movin along . My Avi always changed when it’s THAT time .. Ok that’s not enough y’all see “razor ramon ” post on his no. But I don’t care.. I wrote a long ass post day before his single dropped .. Mariah record dropped nobody said a word I didn’t care .. I still don’t… I carry myself with confidence and humility ., I always try to have a lighter side to MMG.. Cuz I understand I don’t “fit the mold” so if I’m tryna spruce an interview up to show that we not tryn be “serious tough guys” on the red carpet ...
