Chance The Rapper’s Brother, Taylor Bennett, Charged With Battery After Party Assault

by 15 mins ago

Chance the Rapper’s younger brother, Taylor Bennett, has been working hard on his music career over the past year, dropping off gems like “New Chevy.” But now the 18-year-old Chicago resident has some legal trouble to deal with.

According to DNAinfo Chicago, Bennett and his friend Jake Kalmin attended a party in Chicago back on September 28, where the rapper reportedly assaulted another man who was drunk and accidentally stepped on his foot.

Prosecutors claim that other party goers captured cell phone footage of Taylor Bennett and Jake Kalmin as they kicked, punched and stomped on the man, leaving him bleeding as they quickly left the party.

Bennett turned himself into police last Thursday, and was charged with aggravated battery for causing great bodily harm. He and and Kalmin were held on $75,000 bond.

The 19-year-old victim received surgical staples in his head and he was treated for bleeding in his brain, a fracture in his skull and now suffers from headaches and a speech impediment, according to prosecutors.

Bennett’s camp has not issued a public statement about the incident.

Nicki Minaj Explains Why That Banana In Her ‘Anaconda’ Video Was Very Important

by 45 mins ago

At this point it seems like we’ve dissected Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” video (and single artwork) in just about every way possible, but some people are still looking for more answers. Like, what’s the deeper meaning behind all of that “Anaconda” imagery — is there any? Is it all about the ass?

In a new interview with GQ, Nicki Minaj reiterates that maybe we’re just searching too intently for answers here. She told MTV News something similar on VMA night, explaining that she didn’t think the video was sexy to begin with.

“She is just talking about two guys that she dated in the past and what they’re good at and what they bought her and what they said to her. It’s just cheeky, like a funny story,” the YMCMB rapper told GQ.

“I don’t know what there is to really talk about,” she added. “I’m being serious. I just see the video as being a normal video.”

When pressed further, she added another layer. “I think the video is about what girls do,” she said. “Girls love being with other girls, and when you go back to us being younger, we would have slumber parties and we’d be dancing with our friends.”

Nicki even maintains that she was surprised at people’s reaction to the “Anaconda” cover art, which she shot when the video was filmed. “I just said I’ll put it out, never thought in a billion years that people would be putting [other] ...

Amber Rose And Nick Cannon Enjoy A Friendly Roller Coaster Ride

by 10 mins ago

Amber Rose has already shot down rumors that she’s dating her new manager, Nick Cannon, but friendly roller coaster rides aren’t going to make the whispers stop.

Over the weekend Amber and Nicki were spotted on a roller coaster together, just having some good old fashioned fun. According to TMZ, on Friday night they were on a solo outing to Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. It looks like an excited fan was the one who captured a video of them riding together.

Last week, Amber told E! News that the biggest lie she’s ever heard about herself is, “That I’ve slept with Nick Cannon!!!” She added that it’s, “Not true. Cool for him…but no, didn’t happen.”

The 30-year-old mother of one was also recently spotted out, getting close to Nick Simmons, but she says that they’re just friends.

Amber filed for divorce from Wiz Khalifa in late September.

Is This More Proof That Jay Electronica’s Album Is Coming Soon?

by 1 min ago

It’s coming. It has to be. No I.D. has been hard at work in the studio with Jay Z and Jay Electronica — and although none of them have commented on where that music will end up — it’s looking like some of it might be for Jay Elect’s long awaited album.

In a recent Instagram post, Dion shared a video of Jay Electronica vibing out to a new beat. The New Orleans rapper looked like he was mouthing along some potential lyrics to the beat, giving us hope that this could be a taste of his upcoming project.

He recently explained that he has plenty of material banked, but he’s simply not ready to churn out a final product yet.

“[Jay's] very involved, and we’ve got a good relationship,” he told MTV News. “The greatest thing that he’s done with me, is that he’s been very patient with me — just letting me do me, and take my time. He’s got the music, but I’ve still gotta get to a point where I’m comfortable with it, because at the end of the day it’s me coming.”

19 Things We Learned About Raury – Including The Origin Of The ‘Raury Hat’

by 25 mins ago

raury

You’ll often hear accomplished artists say that music is a young man’s game — and when they say that, they probably have someone like Raury in mind. The Atlanta rapper/singer/songwriter turned 18 back in June, and he can already show off a body of work and unique style that’s drawing comparisons to a young Andre 3000.

His debut, Indigo Child, was released in August, and perked up plenty of ears with off-the-wall singles like “God’s Whisper” and “Cigarette Song.” Raury is currently signed to Columbia Records, and this year he’s been rubbing shoulders and working with a few notorious musicians — not to mention that he’s just a pretty interesting kid in general. Here are a few things I learned about Raury during our recent interview, in no particular order.

1. He always has an escape plan (literally)
I like to look around and know everything that’s around me in case I have to escape or something. You’ve gotta know your surroundings.

2. He quit playing sports and started recording music in his friend’s basement
I was 14 when I decided this is all I wanted to do for the rest of my life, but my first literal recordings took place when I was about 15. Everything was like really low key, so nobody knew it existed, but I quit playing sports and everything. It was in my good ol’ guy Kip’s little basement. I learned how to produce and everything from him, in a studio set ...

This Brooklyn Teen Was Punched By A Cop For Allegedly Smoking A Cigarette

by 1 min ago

In the wake of high-profile cases like that of Staten Islander Eric Garner, yet another instance of police brutality has been caught on camera. This particular incident took place in June, but the family of 17-year-old Marcel Hamel recently made the video public.

The clip shows a plainclothes New York City police officer in Brooklyn using excessive force on the teen, who he arrested for allegedly smoking marijuana.

In the video, we can see Hamer being pinned down against a gutter, as he pleads with the cop, saying, “Mister, it was just a cigarette, sir.” While Hamer is still laying on the ground, the cop proceeds to strike him and he seems to temporarily lose consciousness.

His friends can be heard in the background hysterically screaming, “You knocked him out!” but the cop simply responds to Hamer and his friends asking, “Do you wanna get f–ked up?” and taunting them by adding, “Yeah, get it on film.”

Hamer was charged with disorderly conduct after the arrest and, according to his family, he has been suffering from dizziness, headaches and memory loss. “He is always complaining of headaches and he cannot remember things,” his mother Mary Hamer told The Brooklyn Paper. “He used to be pretty sharp, and now I am helping him.”

The NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau is currently investigating the incident and the Hamer family’s lawyer William Thompson said that this is clearly an ongoing ...

Teyana Taylor Strips Down For Her Moody ‘Business’ Video

by 5 mins ago

Teyana Taylor finally has a release date for her debut album VII. The project arrives on November 4, which means that we’ll be seeing a lot more of G.O.O.D. Music’s first lady in the next few weeks. Case in point: the new teaser video for “Business,” where she strips down for the camera.

The brief and moody clip begins with Teyana, alone in her bathroom, lighting up a cigarette and singing her heart out on the floor. The tone of the video definitely complements the song, where she’s singing her heart out about relationship issues. Check out the visuals above.

Expect new video teases from Teyana every Tuesday, until VII is released. Collaborations on her upcoming album will include Fabolous, Pusha T, Yo Gotti and Chris Brown.

Nicki Minaj Gives Us Proof That ‘Anaconda’ Is Always In Demand

by 57 mins ago

It seemed like only yesterday when Nicki Minaj stunned us with her “Anaconda” cover art, and then proceeded to paralyze us with the accompanying video — and clearly we’re not the only ones who enjoyed it. Her Minajesty is celebrating the fact that “Anaconda” is now certified Platinum.

Nicki announced the news via Twitter and Instagram last night, noting that the song hit the Platinum mark in the States, just as it was added to iTunes in the UK.

Obviously, as soon as it was added, “Anaconda” climbed to #2, and it was followed by Jessie J’s “Bang Bang” at #3, which also includes a Nicki feature. She also informed us that the song is currently #2 in Australia, while “Bang Bang” is #1 and her collaboration with Usher on “She Came To Give It To You” is #4.

So basically, she’s winning everywhere at the moment. Out here feeling like…

The YMCMB rapper is scheduled to drop her third album The Pink Print on November 24, and hopefully we’ll get one more new single by then.

Watch Steve Aoki Draw Waka Flocka On A Cake — Then Smash It!

by 5 mins ago

Steve Aoki has made a sport out of “caking” fans at his shows — and by caking, I mean that he literally covers them from head-to-toe in frosting — so we decided to put his cake decorating skills to the test. And, obviously, we also smashed cakes at the end of this.

Hit the video below to see Steve Aoki draw his tourmate Waka Flocka Flame on his cake, while I did my best artistic/frosting impression of Steve himself. (P.S. I won this cake-decorating contest — if you were wondering).
