Jay Electronica’s ‘Into The Light’ Trailer Proves He’s The Most Mysterious Rapper In The World

by 14 mins ago

Jay Electronica walks a steady and deliberate path. The New Orleans native could’ve released his major label debut album years ago, there’s been interest and a growing demand since he dropped his classic “Exhibit A” single in 2008, but instead he chooses to take his time.

The bad news is there is still no release date for Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn), the good news is that there’s a new Jay Electronica documentary coming and it looks like it could be the most interesting story ever.

On Monday (October 13), director Jason Goldwatch dropped a two-minute trailer for “Into the Light” on the MassAppeal.com. The upcoming film is comprised of footage that Goldwatch collected when he and Jay Elec traveled to Napal several years ago.

“Jay Electronica is full of mystery, and like a magician, his character lends itself to new ways of seeing things that would seem impossible to many,” Goldwatch wrote in his post. “Several years ago, Jay and I traveled to the other side of the Earth. We left a piece of ourselves there. In exchange, we brought back something entirely new, and the images that follow are a glimpse into that magic for everyone who’s curious.”

Curious can’t even describe our excitement after watching the clip which shows Elec meditating, taking part in native rituals, flying in a helicopter and holding what looks to be a falcon. Yes– a falcon!

We can’t wait for the doc, even if we have to wait ...

RZA Drops A Crazy Freestyle In The Middle Of Our Interview

by 3 mins ago

You have to be razor sharp to make it as an MC in Wu-Tang Clan. When the nine-member crew recorded their first LP 21 years ago, they would have storied rap battles among each other to determine which rappers would make it on a particular song. It seems like not much changed during the recording of the Clan’s upcoming December 2 album A Better Tomorrow.

MTV News caught RZA on October 3, and during our interview, he recalled one time when Inspectah Deck questioned his lyric choice on a song they recorded for the new project. Feeling like he had to prove himself, RZA says he rapped for an hour straight.

Clearly, RZA is a lyric machine because he stopped mid-interview and gave us a freestyle without us even asking for one. Check the video below.

Wiz Khalifa And Amber Rose Are Dealing With Divorce Differently: See The Proof

by 1 min ago

There was something so right about Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose as a couple. When the two first appeared on MTV’s “RapFix Live” back in 2011, we rooted for their love story and have been cheering every step of the way. But now that the former lovebirds are headed for divorce, we have to admit that we’re going through a range of feelings and, of course, we aren’t the only ones.

Both Wiz and Amber have been dealing with this heartbreak in their own way — from new looks to inspirational quotes. Take a look at how the rapper and his onetime lady are coping:

You can smile through the pain

Or let it burn

Or go out and try to have some fun with friends, even if it does start rumors

You keep your thoughts positive

Or just make a change and dye your hair purple

Either way, we’d just rather remember the good times

Exclusive: Watch Rick Ross And R. Kelly Shoot Their ‘Keep Doin’ That Video’

by 19 mins ago

The first time Rick Ross and R. Kelly filmed a music video, the Boss jumped off a bridge into the water to evade the police. That was back when the Rozay was a rising rap star, but now life is all good for the Maybach Music CEO as evidenced in this behind the scenes clip for his upcoming video for “Keep Doin’ That” (Rich Bitch).”

The song, which features Kelly was released last week, and while the track is star-studded on it’s own, the video (directed by Dre Films) boasts cameos from Jeezy, DJ Khaled, Nipsey Hussle, T.I., Rocko and many more. “The whole A came through, shout out to everybody that came through,” Rozay said.

“Keep Doin’ That” is the new single off of Ross’ upcoming Hood Billionaire LP which is set to hit stores on November 24

Holy Sh–, This Battle Rapper Actually Tried To Take A Dump On Stage

by 26 mins ago

When it comes rap battles, California MC Daylyt takes no crap — except on Saturday when he literally tried to take a crap on stage.

During a match where he was pitted against Pittsburgh spitter Real Deal at the “Duel in the Desert” in Phoenix, Arizona, Day, who was dressed in a headless horseman-type costume, threatened to boo-boo on stage if the crowd booed him two times, according to a report on BattleRap.com.

The crowd continued to boo Day, so he pulled his pants down, copped a squat and attempted to do a number two on stage before security removed him from the Celebrity Theater, where the battle was being held.

“I just want to be an entertainer man, that’s it,” Daylyt, who is known for his on-stage antics, told the site in an interview conducted after he was removed from the venue, and locked outside.

The venue’s head of security explained to BattleRap.com that if Daylyt had defecated on stage they could’ve faced violations from the department of health.

Security pulling @daylyt2k14 off this stage before he could shit. He'll get it someday.

After You Hear Rico Love’s Disclosure Remix You’ll Want A Sam Smith Collaboration

by 1 min ago

Rico Love has produced hit songs for Usher, Beyoncé and Diddy, and now maybe Sam Smith should consider linking up with the hitmaker.

On Monday (October 6), Love posted a #TTLO (Turn the Lights On) remix to Disclosure’s hit track “Latch” onto his Soundcloud account. Rather than rap and sing over the ubiquitous dance beat, Love built a brand new instrumental around Smith’s soulful vocals, giving the song a sexier feel.

Love took other liberties, as well, singing and rapping, intertwining his performance with Smith’s. “Not afraid to tell you everything, I’m latching on, wish I could lock you up inside a dream,” Rico sings to set the tone on the record.

Hopefully, this remix isn’t the last time we hear Rico Love and Sam Smith together.

That Moment You Realize The Rich Gang Mixtape Is Really Romantic

by 22 mins ago

Separately, Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan and Birdman make some serious street tunes, so when they collectively dropped Rich Gang: Tha Tour, Part 1, we were expecting some real murder music. What we weren’t expecting was the love that they peppered to balance out songs like “730,” “Imma Ride,” “Throw Your Hood Up” and “Bullet.”

We are in no way questioning the Rich Gang’s gangsta, but rather celebrating their diversity and vision. After a few spins, we started to realize Thugger and Rich Homie are really romantic. In fact, if they keep this up, they may give Drake a run for his young money — get it?

Here’s what we learned about love listening to Rich Gang: Tha Tour, Part 1.

Love can be scary

RHQ expresses some serious fears on “Hate I,” and you can’t help but feel for him. “I hope I ain’t fallin’ in love,” he says after taking a deep sigh. It’s okay Quan, we’ve all been there.

But love is unconditional, too

When you’ve really found the right one, you can just accept them for who they are. “Girl I want everything that comes with you/ Even if you got stretch marks and two children,” he raps on “Milk Marie,” before telling his girl that he loves her for who she is.

So, if you find her, keep her

They say opposites attract — and maybe that’s true — but sometimes, just sometimes you want a girl just like you. On “Givenchy,” Thugger sings ...

Here Are 18 Of The Most Influential Latino Rappers In Hip-Hop

by 6 mins ago

Hip-hop has been bridging cultural gaps since the early 1980s, when the music and art form spread from New York City to the world. Now, people from all walks of life participate in hip-hop, and since we’re in the middle of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we’d like to look at the contributions and influence from the game’s best Latino and Hispanic MCs.

In no particular order (because we just couldn’t pick our favorites — except Pun, he’ll will always be #1), here are 18 of the most influential Latino rappers in hip-hop.

1. Big Pun

There were a number of Latino rappers who came before Pun, but the Puerto Rican spitter was the first solo Latin MC to go platinum. He made hits and never sacrificed his lyrical ability. Not only was he the greatest Latino spitter of all-time, he holds his place among all the greats.

2. B-Real

The Cypress Hill frontman has been at it for nearly 25 years. Not only has B-Real influenced a whole slew of rappers (and stoners), the Mexican and Cuban MC is one of hip-hop’s best performers ever.

3. Pitbull

Pitbullgetty images

To earn his first major look on the “Fast and Furious” soundtrack, Pitbull had to battle Ruff Ryders rapper Drag-On, and he’s been repping for Latinos ever since. You can’t have a list of Latino rappers without Mr. 305.

4. Fat Joe

You have to salute the Don Cartagena. Not only does he have a number of hits under his name (“We Thuggin,” ...
