Martin Lawrence Confirms ‘Bad Boys 3′ Is Real. Where Is Will Smith?

by 16 mins ago

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence know a thing or two about Hollywood blockbusters and now it appears that the two funnymen will unite for a third time and complete a trilogy to their “Bad Boys” franchise.

“I believe so yes,” Lawrence told Conan O’Brien on Wednesday night after he was asked if the long-awaited “Bad Boys 3″ was a possibility.

The original “Bad Boys” paired Smith and Lawrence as two smart-aleck detectives who take down a drug cartel; it was released in 1995 and spawned a sequel eight years later in 2003. Both films were directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

“I just talked to Jerry yesterday and he said it’s real,” Lawrence confirmed. “They’re working on a script, they’re getting close and it all looks good.”

Wiz Khalifa Says He’s Not Going To Jail, So Everyone Just Calm Down

by 11 mins ago

Wiz Khalifa caused quite a stir when he was arrested for possession of marijuana in Texas back in May. While in custody, he took a selfie that threw his fans into a tweeting frenzy, spawning the trending topic #FreeTrapWiz.

The MC was eventually released hours later, but after he missed a scheduled court appearance earlier this month an El Paso judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

Numerous outlets, including MTV News, reported on it and Khalifa even made light of the situation telling Hot New Hip-Hop to “stop snitching” on Twitter.

In actuality, Wiz isn’t worried at all.

“It’s taken care of, but I’m not really speaking on it too much because it’s not the story of my life,” Wiz told MTV News on Sunday, when we caught him in Detroit right before he took the stage for his Under the Influence of Music Tour. “Nobody has to worry about me going to jail.”

That’s good news, because on August 19, Wiz will release his third major label LP Blacc Hollywood. Fans who can’t wait can listen to the entire album right now on Wizkhalifa.MTV.com.

Wiz Khalifa Says He And Nicki Minaj Are Steps And Steps Ahead Of Their Competitors

by 23 mins ago

Wiz Khalifa takes listeners through a couple of different zones on his upcoming LP Blacc Hollywood. There’s the turnt up, club anthem “We Dem Boyz,” the smoker’s ode “KK,” and on “True Colors”, Wiz links with Nicki Minaj for an inspirational tune.

Wiz’s album doesn’t hit stores until August 19, but fans can go to WizKhalifa.MTV.com to get an exclusive first listen. On “True Colors,” both rap stars give first-hand accounts of former friends who turned green with envy.

“Me, I make different types of songs. Some are for the club, some are for the smokers and some are very inspirational and motivational. Songs like ‘This Plane’ and things like that with a message behind it and that’s what ‘True Colors’ is more down the line of,” Wiz told MTV News on Sunday when we traveled to Detroit to catch him on his Under the Influence of Music Tour.

Collaborating with Nicki was a big deal for Khalifa — she’s a tried and true hitmaker and an artist that Wiz has a great deal of respect for. “She kills it inspirationally, [and] lyrically. You know how we both do,” he said of their performance.

With her verse, Nicki starts off singing, then transitions into a rapid-fire rap verse. By the time she ends her rhyme, Minaj displayed expert wordplay, flipping the word pink a few times before she teases her new LP. “They know I’m ...

Joey Bada$$ Goes The Opposite of Fancy In His ‘Big Dusty’ Video

by 29 mins ago

Joey Bada$$ isn’t into keeping up rap’s status quo, so when it came time to shoot the video for “Big Dusty,” he opted not to bring the fancy cars, expensive jewelry or exotic women.

The Pro Era MC dropped the track — the first from his upcoming debut album B4.Da.$$ — at the top of the month. On Tuesday night, he followed up with the video, which finds Joey and the Pros rhyming to camera while standing in a dimly lit hallway. No bells and whistles here, just hard hip-hop.

Here’s Your Step-By-Step Guide To Work The Drake Vs Lil Wayne Tour App

by 26 mins ago

Growing up I was a huge fan of the “Street Fighter” video game series, so imagine my excitement when Drake and Lil Wayne announced their Drake Vs Lil Wayne Tour, using the iconic fighting game’s fonts.

In the weeks leading up to the tour, the Young Money superstars even dropped at “SF”-inspired trailer (geeked) and now a phone app, developed with Capcom, the geniuses behind “Street Fighter.”

I already got my ticket for Friday’s (August 8) kick-off show and I’m making my way to Darien Center, New York, but before I stepped foot inside the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, I wanted to get familiar with this interactive Drake Vs Lil Wayne app.

Supposedly when concertgoers interact with the app, they can “power up” either Drake or Weezy and impact their performance on stage. It’s all a little hard to imagine, so I figured I’d take it for a test run right before the show, because we all know how phone service gets at summer concerts.

1. Open The App

First step is opening the app, never mind the 27,000 unread emails and 175 voicemails, that’s not important right now. Note, the wallpaper of the first time I met Weezy; it was a cool moment.

2. Marvel At The Title Screen

Once the app opens up you get this cool “Street Fighter”-inspired title screen. Round 1, fight!

3. Choose Your City

14 Hip-Hop Artists Named After Comic Book Characters

by 26 mins ago

Everyone loves comic books, not just the nerds. The myth that only pimply-faced, four-eyed, brainiacs are the only ones who love superheroes was debunked a long-time ago. Still, there are some comic books aficionados out there that may surprise you — especially in the hip-hop community.

Here are 14 hip-hop artists who named themselves after our favorite guys (and gals) in tights.

1. Ghostface Killah a.k.a Tony Starks

ghostface

Not only did Ghostface Killah name his 1996 solo debut Ironman, he often uses the alias Tony Starks and even had a brief cameo in the 2008 blockbuster film.

2. Method Man a.k.a Johnny Blaze

methodman

Ghost isn’t the Wu-Tang Clan’s only comic book junkie. Method Man once recorded a song called “The Riddler” and has been using Johnny Blaze as an a.k.a. since the mid-1990s — a nod to Marvel’s Ghost Rider.

3. Big Pun

bigpun

The late-Big Pun was known for tongue-twisting rhymes and his admiration for the gun-toting Punisher.

4. Ja Rule a.k.a Loki

jarule

Technically, Loki existed in Nordic mythology way before he became a thorn in the Avengers’ side, but either way, this was a bad alias for Ja Rule. Thank the Gods it was short-lived.

5. Grandmaster Flash

grandmasterflash

We don’t know for sure that the iconic Grandmaster Flash named himself after the DC Comics speedster, but let’s just say he did.

6. DJ Clark Kent

Life After G.O.O.D. Music: Common Explains His Relationship With Kanye West

by 19 mins ago

Common’s Nobody’s Smiling, his 10th solo album, which he dropped on Tuesday provides a deep look into Chicago’s streets. The album’s dark and penetrating beats do well to help Com paint a picture of his native city; and while the LP excels there is one ingredient that seems to be missing: Kanye West.

“Honestly Kanye, he didn’t produce on the album,” Common told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway during a special “RapFix” interview that aired on MTV Jams on Thursday. “No I.D. is the center point, he’s the producer.”

Yeezy produced two of Common’s most-revered, LPs 2005′s Be and it’s 2007 follow-up Finding Forever. Both albums were released on ‘Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, as well as 2008′s Universal Mind Control. In 2011, Common dropped The Dreamer/The Believer without G.O.O.D. and with Nobody’s Smiling he’s reunited with No I.D., who he has known since the fourth grade.

“Artium is the label I’m on, that’s No I.D.’s label on Def Jam,” Common clarified, confirming that he was no longer a part of West’s label in an official capacity. “G.O.O.D. Music that’s still my family, ‘Ye is my brother, but point-blank business wise it wasn’t like ‘Ye was really like, ‘Let’s go do this album.’

“I think his focus was somewhere else; marriage, life, baby — in good places,” he continued.

The truth is, while a Yeezy beat or two would have been nice, No I.D. and Common’s chemistry is more than enough to create a compelling piece of work — after all, No ...

Bobby Shmurda Judges The ‘So You Think You Can Shmoney Dance’ Battle

by 28 mins ago

(Watch Bobby Shmurda judge the Shmoney Dance contest above)

Bobby Shmurda is on fire right now. His “Hot N—a” music video is quickly approaching four million views on YouTube and the shmoney dance that he shows off in the video is the hottest step in hip-hop.

The dance has spawned several Vines on the Internet, captivated parties from New York City to Miami and even helped the 20-year-old rapper to sign his deal with Epic Records. Last week, on July 16, MTV took Shmurda and his GS9 partner-in-rhyme, Rowdy Rebel, out to Fulton Mall in Brooklyn, New York to judge a shmoney dance battle.

Bobby’s version of the dance features him throwing his hat in the sky, swaying his hips back and forth and waving his hands in the air. “You could be doing your own shmoney dance, but as long as you got feeling in it and you’re confident 100 percent, you doing it,” he said.

Jeezy Rounds Up T.I. And Rich Homie Quan Behind The Scenes Of His ‘Me Okay’ Video

by 17 mins ago

With reporting by FLX

When Jeezy first came onto the rap scene in the early 2000s, the Snowman showed fans the gritty streets of Atlanta; and now for his upcoming video for “Me Okay,” the Trap or Die MC wants to go back to his roots.

“The video is basically about touching my town, getting in the streets and running through the neighborhoods that I often ran through and getting back out with the homies, kids and people of Atlanta,” Jeezy told MTV News on July 12 when we were on the set of the Motion Family-directed video.

Jeezy says he is the people’s champ and his city’s hero, but he wasn’t alone at the shoot. Snow was joined by T.I. and Rich Homie Quan, who will both appear in the clip when it’s done.

“Me Okay” is the first single from Jeezy’s fifth solo LP Seen It All. Though the album doesn’t drop until September 2, Jeezy dropped the title track, which features Jay Z, at the top of July. While we were on set with the rapper, he explained how Hov’s verse, where he told a detailed story about his hustling past brought the superstar MC to tears.

“We got on the phone and [Jay] was like, ‘Yo, Jeezy, when I was writing the verse I had tears in my eyes, man,’ because it took him so far back to Marcy,” Snow told us. “Every bar in that song was real — I put my hand on the ...

Jeezy Gives His Side In The Freddie Gibbs Beef

by 3 mins ago

When Jeezy first signed Freddie Gibbs to CTE back in April 2011, it seemed like the perfect pairing. Who better than the Snowman to help usher in the Gary, Indiana street rapper?

Well, things didn’t go as planned and in December 2012, Gibbs had announced that he and Jeezy had amicably split ways. But in June 2013, Gibbs told MTV News it wasn’t all that amicable, saying he was tired of the “fake and the empty promises” from Jeezy and likened his one time collaborator to a “scary lil’ boy.”

Snowman has been quiet about the split, until now.

“I put him on a song with Eminem, I put him on a song with T.I., I put him on numerous mixtapes that I had,” Jeezy told veteran hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson during an installment of his “The Truth” video series. “I took him on tour, I took him around the world, I spent money on videos that he didn’t use ’cause he didn’t like ‘em and it wasn’t his money.”

Jeezy insisted that he tried to get Gibbs signed to a major label, but together the pair couldn’t garner enough interest. “So at the end of the day my whole thing to him was, I took you to every label in the game, they don’t wanna sign you. I don’t have no reason– I love you, I think your music is dope, but they don’t wanna sign you,” he explained.

According to the Thug Motivation rapper he called ...
