Tyler, The Creator Hates Rap, But Loves Jennifer Lawrence

by 06/05/14

Tyler, the Creator kicked his feet up on “Larry King Now” on Wednesday, and he had plenty to say. The Odd Future member discussed music, aspirations outside of rap, fame, criticism, influences, “Loiter Squad” and plenty more with the veteran host during their interview.

Oh, and he confessed his love for Jennifer Lawrence. Obviously.

There were a number of memorable moments, but here are some of the most standout quotes from the half hour sit-down:

On his love life:
“I love Jennifer Lawrence. If you’re watching this, leave the n—a you with!”

On music:

“I hate rapping.”
“I really wanna sing.”
“I’m pretty bored with it.”

On social medial like Twitter and Snapchat:
“It’s making kids so stupid.”

On the n-word:
“You could call me a n—a and I would not give a f–k.”

On Barack Obama:

“I could give a f–k less about his skin color.”

And, finally…Larry, to Tyler, at the end of the interview:

“Love ya, man.”

And there you have it.

I'm serious about these snacks. Catch me @adamfleischer

Okay, look: if this new featurette that highlights the main conflict of “If I Stay,” whether Chloe Grace Moretz should stay in a coma/let herself die, or if she wants to live is any indication of how the movie will play out, I AM GOING TO BE A PUDDLE OF TEARS BEFORE THE OPENING CREDITS ROLL.

You can follow Alex on Twitter (@azalben), but not in person because that would be weird.

Hey, Girl: Here’s Why Teenage Ryan Gosling Is The Coolest

by 06/05/14

I may be alone in my assertion of this, but I have to believe there is a good contingent out there that would second this emotion: old-school Ryan Gosling is better than current-day Ryan Gosling. Hands-down.

My feelings on this matter might be swayed by what is commonly called the “hipsterish” tendency to only like an artist’s early work because one was an early supplicant at the altar of said artist’s greatness.

You see, around 16 years ago I was basically the modern-day equivalent of a Belieber for Gosling. I filled approximately two journals with outpourings of pre-teen adoration for the actor/singer/triple threat — the existence of which I have kept relatively on the DL until now, when they could function as serviceable fodder for an article on an entertainment news site. (Never throw anything away, folks!)

From a brief perusal of said journals, I have pulled together a pretty thorough argument for why Young Gosling is better than this dude.

At least to my 13-year-old self. Because … I mean … abs.

1) He Was On An Excellent Program Called ‘Breaker High’

Gosling played a “nerdy” dude named Sean Hanlon on said show, which was about kids who went to school on a cruise ship — like you do. When the network that broadcast the show in my hometown of Mystic, Connecticut, changed the show’s timeslot to an hour before school was out, I wrote a strongly worded letter. I wish I were kidding.

2) And On ‘Breaker High’ He Had Amazing Hair

Here’s Your 6 Step Guide To Throwing The Ultimate ‘Hangover’ Fifth Anniversary Party (Tiger Included)

by 06/05/14

Has it really been five years since “The Hangover” first hit theaters? Where did the time go? Did we maybe black out for a while, and suddenly found ourselves in 2014?

Regardless of alcohol induced hazes or not, the comedy did dominate theaters everywhere starting on June 5, 2009. And what better way to celebrate than with the most epic party of all time?

Here’s the 6 things you need to get your own Wolfpack on:

1. Tiger
Hangover TigerWarner Bros.
Cost: $5,000-$12,000
Since tigers are extremely rare, this is going to be one of the biggest costs on your list. In the movie, the gang wakes up with a tiger (later it turns out to be one owned by Mike Tyson) wandering around their hotel room. We talked to the owner of Featuring Animals, a company that hires out tigers for private parties and film shoots to find out just how much this centerpiece attraction would cost.

Turns out a party, which will last all night will cost you on the higher end (i.e., $12,000), while a film shoot of an hour or two will be the low end.

Either way, hiring a tiger seems like a swell idea.

2. Chicken
_MG_4070.DNGWarner Bros.
Cost: $500
Look, all I’m saying is that for real, one time I needed to rent a chicken for a few hours and it cost $500. The end.

3. Ken Jeong
kenjeonghangoverWarner Bros.
Cost: $50,000+
What’s going to make your “Hangover” party stand out from all the others? Hiring series ...

Weezer Teases New Tracks — When Can We Get A Record?

by 06/05/14

It’s hard to believe that Weezer‘s self-titled debut — a.k.a “The Blue Album” — dropped 20 years ago for myriad reasons. 1). That would make me old, as I purchased it upon release. 2). The guys are out with two song snippets that have me just as excited today as I was back in 1994.

The snippets could, perhaps, appear on the band’s upcoming ninth record, produced by Ric Ocasek (who produced that debut record, among others). The band has been sharing cryptic clips from the studio for a while now — the first video came out last month, the second is brand-new.

Check out the new tunes below.

Watch Carrie Underwood And Miranda Lambert Go All Bad-Girl At The CMT Awards

by 06/04/14

2014 CMT Awards host Kristen Bell wasn’t lying when she declared the 2014 CMT Awards to be a ladies night’ during her opening monologue. Indeed, two of country music’s reigning queens, Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, proved that during their stiletto-boot-stomping performance of Miranda’s “Somethin’ Bad.”

Carrie, who won Video Of The Year for “See You Again,” and Miranda, who scored Female Video Of The Year for “Automatic,” were model gorgeous in their black, sparkly dresses as they belted the song about girlfriends, singing, “‘Bout to tear it up in New Orleans,” some foot stompin’, clapping and drinking (sounds like something good to us).

Watch their performance, which rounded out the night:

Not Even Ellen Degeneres Could Handle John Legend’s CMT Performance: See Why

by 06/04/14

Anyone have a tissue? I seem to have something in my eye after watching John Legend and Jennifer Nettles‘ stirring duet of his chart-topping ballad (and destined to be a classic wedding tune), “All Of Me,” during the 2014 CMT Awards.

Apparently, Ellen Degeneres couldn’t quite handle it either, giving a one-word review on Twitter: “Wow.”

Sitting on stools and backed by CMT Awards 2014 three-time nominee Hunter Hayes on acoustic guitar (Hunter also performed “Tattoo” earlier in the night), John and Jennifer (he in a leather jacket and she in a sultry cut-out leather dress) took turns on the romantic verses before their voices came together to sweetly harmonize on the chorus: “‘Cause all of me/Loves all of you/Love your curves and all your edges/All your perfect imperfections/Give your all to me/I’ll give my all to you.” SWOON. Their performance culminated in the two rising from their seats for a rousing “I give you all of me, and you give me all of you.” #goosebumps.

live Wednesday, June 4 at 8/7c on CMT.

Lupe Fiasco Wanted ‘Mission’ To Be ‘Uplifting’… But Still A Little ‘Ratchet’

by 06/04/14

Lupe Fiasco is on a “Mission” to empower those affected by cancer with his latest single, but he wasn’t always sure that the song would head in that direction.

“When I first heard the track, and the chorus was already in the track, it was like, ‘Hm, what can you talk about, with what the chorus is saying?’ ” Lupe told MTV News on Wednesday (June 4).

“You could be cliche and be like, basketball, a story about a basketball player. Or just something very, very general.” But the Chicago native didn’t want to take that route.

“Coulda died, but I came out fighting,” the chorus booms.

“It was like a eureka moment,” he explained. “I was listening to the beat in the car and I was like, ‘Fighting cancer.’ This is the song right here. Once I kind of established that that is what it was gonna be, I just started to pull from personal experiences that I had with people who are fighting cancer; St. Jude’s commercials. Just kind of every reference point that I had from a personal point to just kind of a more general point.”

Those ideas became the single, which will appear on his upcoming Tetsuo & Youth. Each of the three verses on the energetic song tell the story of cancer’s effects on different people — and, more specifically, how they refused to let it overtake them.

There are also more than a dozen additional vocalists on the track, as Lupe enlisted cancer survivors — among them, singer Charlie ...

T-Pain On His Comeback: ‘I Am All. I Am The Best’

by 06/04/14

It had been a while since T-Pain’s signature sound invaded airwaves and got stuck in heads — until “Up, Down (Do This All Day),” which he released late last year to kick-start a comeback following a bout with depression.

The single was certainly a strong start, and the remix, featuring Lil Boosie, Kid Ink and B.o.B (who was also on the original) didn’t hurt either.

“I wanted to make something different,” the Florida native told MTV News recently about the remix, which dropped in May. “The music has been missing so much lately, I feel like we need to bring those techniques back. You know, nobody’s done, like, a key change in a long time — like when the song goes up a whole note in the middle of it.”

As for how he secured a feature from the recently-released Boosie — an artist who has surely been getting plenty of requests for features: Pure persistence.

“I just would not stop calling,” Pain said. “I just had to DJ Khaled him to death; just kept calling, kept calling, calling.”

The Louisiana product was supposed to get on two other songs for the singer following his release in March, but then Pain thought, why not get him on a remix to a song that’s already a hit?

“Soon as I sent him ‘Up, Down,’ it was insanely fast,” he said. “I can’t even believe it. Maybe he was already in the booth when I sent it to him.”

And there’s more on deck.

“He and I have ...

by 06/04/14

“When your sins weigh heavily upon you, come to Me,” begins the text of the photo he shared, which is lifted from Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young. “Confess your wrong doing, which I know all about before you say a word. Stay in the Light of My Presence, receiving forgiveness, cleansing, and healing. Remember that I have clothed you in My Righteousness, so nothing can separate you from Me. Whenever you stumble or fall, I am there to help you up.”

The photo goes on to quote three passages from the New Testament, as well.

The pop star didn’t write a comment with the photo, which addressed controversy ignited by a video released on Wednesday (June 4). In it, a 14-year-old Bieber sings a version of his hit, “One Less Lonely Girl,” that finds him spewing racially insensitive lyrics: “One less lonely n—-r/ One less lonely n—-r … there’s gonna be one less lonely n—-r.” He also added a joke about the Ku Klux Klan.
