Lecrae’s New Album Anomaly Is Coming This Summer

by 06/03/14

One of Lecrae’s defining factors is that he doesn’t fit into preconceived norms. This has been true both musically — as an artist who puts his faith first, and shies away from the materialistic and misogynistic content rampant in rap — as well as in his personal life — as a dude whose “church clothes” may not match the rest of the congregants.

It looks like he’ll be continuing on that path with his seventh solo album, Anomaly, which is set to arrive in August.

To help promote the news of the album, which will be his first since 2012′s Gravity, the Reach Records rapper enlisted a few star athletes to spread the message on Tuesday (June 3). Both Houston Rockets guard Jeremy Lin and Oakland Raiders defensive end Justin Tuck shared similar photos to the one ‘Crae posted.

50 Cent And G-Unit Give Drake’s ’0-100′ A Spin On ‘Real Quick’

by 06/03/14

G-Unit just reunited over the weekend, but it sure seems like they’re ready to put the pedal to the floor on their comeback.

On Tuesday (June 3), 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo and Kidd Kidd released their remix of “0-100,” Drake’s latest track which dropped over the weekend.

“You got me f–ked up you think it’s different now a n—a rich/ ‘Fore I get to cuttin’, all you n—as better cut the sh–,” 50 raps to open the song, which arrives the same day as his fifth solo album, Animal Ambition.

The remix comes a day after the Unit delivered their musical reunion in the form of “Nah I’m Talkin’ Bout,” and just two days since they linked back up on the Summer Jam stage.

And it sounds like this is something fans should get used to.

“We got no dates, we working,” Young Buck told XXL about the possibility of an entire reunion project on Monday night. “[We] in the studio. Stay tuned.”

Banks was similarly elusive with details, but confirmed that more is on deck. “Work in progress,” he said. “We just put out the new freestyle today. Check it out.”

And if the album release and G-Unit track didn’t give you a sufficient dose of 50 Cent today, just moments before the “0-100″ remix dropped, Fabolous liberated his “Cuffin’ Season (Remix),” which features the Queens rapper.

Marvel’s ‘Doctor Strange’ Has A Director

by 06/03/14

Director Scott Derrickson has officially signed on to direct Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” focusing on the master of the mystic arts. This is also the first real confirmation that “Strange” will be a part of the movie studio’s Phase Three.

Though Marvel itself has yet to confirm Derrickson as of press time, the director seems to be a perfect choice for the feature. He previously wrote and directed the surprise hit horror film “Sinister,” as well as the upcoming “Deliver Us From Evil,” which is riding a wave of positive pre-release buzz.

He’s also working on the recently announced “Two Eyes Staring,” which IMDB lists as being released in 2014, though work on “Strange” could, of course, push that back a bit. That said, as — other than an Easter Egg mention in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” — Marvel hasn’t officially announced “Strange” on their schedule, we don’t know yet when it will be released.

Meaning, Derrickson may have plenty of time to tackle another micro-budget horror film, then Marvel’s next big tentpole property.

If our clocks are set right, speculation on who will play the surgeon turned ultimate magician will move online to Derrickson’ previous collaborator Ethan Hawke any second now; though we’ll point people to Joel McHale, who Derrickson cast in “Deliver Us From Evil” and has plenty of time on his hands now that “Community” has been cancelled.

Plus, McHale knows how to play a repentant jerk juuuuust right.

We’ll have more on this as it develops.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Pedro Pascal Has The Most Amazing Funeral Idea Ever

by 06/03/14

Now, if you’ve somehow not been spoiled and/or have thus far successfully kept “The Mountain and The Viper” storyline revelations at bay — and good on you for that impressive feat — it would be pertinent for you to then also skip this post, because guess what? It contains some serious Game of Thrones spoilers. Good? OK.

Pedro Pascal, supremely talented actorperson that brought fan favorite Oberyn Martell to life has a very vivid imagination. One filled with raging parties, impressive elephants, and even a fried-up Lannister or two. Which is likely why, when Vanity Fair asked him to describe what he imagined the Dornish funeral for his character would look like, came out so detail-specific and strange (in the best way, because elephants).

Now we don’t know about the rest of you, but: doesn’t this sound like the sort of funeral you’d be remiss to not attend? We’re hopping on a boat to Sunspear now, Oberyn.

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Animated Interview About Addiction And Happiness Will Break Your Heart

by 06/03/14

Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s emotional vulnerability is often what made him such a spellbinding actor. His commitment to owning and living in those truths is what made him an icon gone far too soon.

Never before have the actor’s mastery of the complexities of human emotion more evident than in Blank on Blank’s latest animated video installment, featuring Hoffman in conversation with Simon Critchley from December 22, 2012. To call it worth your time would be an understatement.

Despite the sadness permeating the conversation at hand — coupled with the fact that Hoffman lost his life to the darker impulses he makes reference to — it is clear that the actor was an optimist and uplifted by his handle on reality. Both fully aware of his excess and impulses (and what it takes to control them), while simultaneously longing for that lack of control and understanding, Hoffman’s thoughtfulness on the matter cannot be understated. It’s poignant, sad, uplifting, and funny: everything we’ve come to expect and love from the actor.

T.I. On Floyd Mayweather Incident: ‘I Don’t Even Know What There Is To Squash’

Tip says if he has a problem with someone, he'll approach them.

by 06/03/14

T.I. and Floyd Mayweather reportedly got into a bit of a scuffle in Las Vegas over Memorial Day Weekend, but Tip is remaining relatively hush on the situation.

“Whatever did happen — if anything did happen — he may be used to talking after his fights,” the rapper told TMZ. “Where I’m from, we don’t talk after ours. Ain’t nothin’ else to say.”

He’s likely not only referencing the fact that Mayweather, a champion boxer, does interviews after his bouts, but also that he spoke on this particular incident.

“I guess [Tiny] put a picture up on Instagram of her at the fight so I guess he was feeling some type of way,” Mayweather explained last month, suggesting that the incident stemmed from his relationship with T.I.’s wife.

You won’t hear T.I. talking about their issue, though.

“I don’t even know what there is to squash,” he said. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I don’t even know…I just know, if I got an issue with anybody about anything, I’ma approach them and we gon’ handle it.”

Parquet Courts’ ‘Black And White’ Video Will Make Your Brain Twitch

by 06/03/14

What’s black and white and … black and white? Brooklyn band Parquet Courts‘ new city symphony of a video for “Black And White.”

For those who have not yet discovered the glory that is Parquet Courts, the band is out with their third album, Sunbathing Animal, Tuesday (June 3) on What’s Your Rupture?/Mom+Pop. The followup to 2012′s critically acclaimed LP Light Up Gold — and crasher of an EP, 2013′s Tally All the Things That You Broke — the new album has been weaving its way through the Web and TV for a while now. “Black And White,” for one, premiered on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” with the entire album streaming on NPR.

Now, that ominous, finger-snapping, jittering track has some visuals, courtesy of directors Austin Brown and Johann Rashid and inspired by the experimental films of William Burroughs and Brion Gysin.

It’s a simple video — featuring a black and white stroll through lead singer Andrew Savage’s Brooklyn neighborhood, ending with that image projected on a wall in an empty room — but it’s meant to capture all the life and living inherent in a mere walk through the city.

Think of that next time you amble to the corner store and back.

Exclusive: Listen To Joss Whedon’s New Song From ‘In Your Eyes’

by 06/03/14

Joss Whedon isn’t exactly keeping a low profile. He’s currently directing “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the sequel to one of the biggest movies of all time, producing “Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” — and in his off-hours, writing the independently released “In Your Eyes,” via his own production company Bellweather Pictures.

But Whedon didn’t just write “In Your Eyes,” he also provided a song for the soundtrack. The song, “Crumblin’” is performed by Noah Maffit and Jessica Freedman, and marks the first time Whedon has penned music for the screen since “Much Ado About Nothing” in 2012.

For those who know Whedon better from his time behind the camera than his time behind the piano, the multi-talented creator has a long history with the musical arts. After (surprisingly) writing a song for the direct-to-DVD “The Lion King 2,” he composed the songs for the legendary musical episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” titled “Once More With Feeling.” A critical and fan-friendly hit, it has spawned multiple sing-alongs and screenings over the past decade.

He then wrote the iconic title track for his own show, “Firefly,” in 2002, followed by the highly successful web series “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” in 2008, which included more than eight new songs.

Other than the musical commentary track for “Dr. Horrible,” Whedon hasn’t had a multitudinous musical output as of late, but hopefully this “In Your Eyes” track will change his tune.

The soundtrack for the movie will hit digitally on June 10, and CD on July 8 from ...
