Hit-Boy And Audio Push Respond To G-Unit Remix Of ‘Grindin’ My Whole Life’

by 06/03/14

G-Unit created major waves on Monday night when they released “Nah I’m Talkin’ Bout,” their first collaboration in years. In addition to the novelty of hearing 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and Tony Yayo on a record together again, the inherent energy of the song and it’s beat played a part in the excitement, too.

That beat, produced by Hit-Boy, was originally used on “Grindin’ My Whole Life.” The song was included on Hit and his HS87 squad’s We The Plug, which dropped last week. But they weren’t even aware that Fif and the Unit were hopping on their joint.

“We really just seen that on the ride over to this office here,” Hit-Boy told MTV News on Monday, just hours before the song dropped. “50, it sounded like he was gassin’ it, so I’m excited. We really just appreciative to be in the game, man. We been working for a long time. ‘Grindin’ My Whole Life’ ain’t just a song. We really been trying to get to it for a long time, so for people to be taking notice is a blessing.”

Audio Push
, who are also in HS87 and on the original track, were similarly enthused. “50, he’s still a rapper; he’s still hip-hop,” said Price, one half of the duo. “If he hears somethin’ he like, he probably just rapping on it, you feel me. Which is hard.”

This won’t be the last remix from the 18-track project We The Plug, which showcases ...

How Did “The Fault In Our Stars” Inspire This Nat & Alex Wolff Single? Listen

by 06/03/14

Nat Wolff is a huge fan of John Green’s “The Fault In Our Stars.” Not only does he co-star in the cinematic adaptation — and deserve some of the credit for making the movie manifest after sharing the book with director Josh Boone — he also wrote a song inspired by the YA classic.

Nat & Alex Wolff — previously The Naked Brothers Band — are out with that jam, “Last Station,” today, along with another single that they’ve exclusively shared with MTV News titled “Rules.”

So how did a tear-jearker of epic proportions make its way to the band’s guitar strings? Well, after finishing Green’s book — about a pair of teens who meet in a cancer support group — Nat was inspired, to say the least.

“I had the idea of coming to the end of something early,” he told MTV News. “You know, coming to the end of life but living, even if it makes it sadder to know that it’s over so early. I can’t pinpoint what exactly what it was about it, what gets me inspired by the book, but something about it inspired me.”

The result was “Last Station,” a clear-as-a-bell lost love song that Nat says is about “a combination of girls I went to high school with and grew up with.” With a mournful, singalong of a chorus — “Follow your train to its last station/ follow, follow, follow” — and a collection of verses like faded photos, this soft, folky song easily fits into the ...

Justin Bieber’s Racist Joke: Soulja Boy And More Come To His Defense

by 06/02/14

The Internet just about blew up on Sunday after a video surfaced of a 15-year-old Justin Bieber telling a racist joke.Bieber was quick to apologize, calling it a “childish and inexcusable mistake” in a statement to TMZ.

“I’m very sorry,” Bieber said shortly after the video leaked. “I take my friendships with people of all cultures very seriously and I apologize for offending or hurting anyone with my childish and inexcusable mistake.”

But the Internet was divided on whether or not that apology was enough. Over in the comments of our initial post, a veritable firestorm erupted, with user versatyle tha wildchyld saying: “its [sic] amazing how people will rationalize such behavior and then think that an [sic] public apology rectifies the issue, we excuse him because he is ‘famous,’ when we have people who are dying and losing their lives daily over such issues, such a mentality, because we as a people… as a country accept this as the ‘norm.’”

On Twitter, that sentiment was echoed by several users:

Fellow MTV commenter e_hartley agreed, adding “[I] was horrified by the video when [I] saw it,” but there were also quite a few fans coming to his defense — and some big-name celebs, too.

Also sticking up for Justin were long-time friends Floyd Mayweather and Soulja Boy. Mayweather took to Twitter to say the “Boyfriend” singer has been “nothing but kind” to him and his family, while the rapper told TMZ that “Let ...

G-Unit Is Back: Listen To ‘Nah I’m Talking Bout’

by 06/02/14

If last night’s G-Unit reunion during Hot 97′s Summer Jam wasn’t enough for you — and it wasn’t enough for us — this might help: The crew has reunited on a song for the first time since 2008 with the release of “Nah I’m Talking Bout” on Monday (June 2).

The song brings the Unit together for the combination of slick and tough talk that fans grew to love during their run last decade. 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo and Kidd Kidd all rhyme on the track, whose original, “Grindin’ My Whole Life,” is performed by Hit-Boy and his HS87 crew and included on their recent We The Plug release.

Chris Brown Stuck With T-Pain Through His Two-Year Depression

by 06/02/14

When you’re a music star with tons of hit records, plenty of people are your friends. When those hits slow down, though — like they did for T-Pain — and when people fall out of love with your sound — like they did with T-Pain — well, not everyone is as eager to be buddy-buddy.

That’s the harsh reality that the singer says he faced during a recent two-year depression when his professional success stalled and he slept and drank his days away.

But a couple people did prove to be loyal, including Chris Brown.

“I did it for him,” Pain told MTV News last week, after acknowledging that Breezy was in a rare class of those who didn’t disappear. “I did it for everybody, but, you know, Chris the most, because he was going through so much with all the backlash and stuff he was going through. And I still called him, hit him up, visit him in the studio, checked on him, make sure was OK, went by his house, just popped up in places that he was.”

The “Up, Down (Do This All Day)” singer was also appreciative of another hit-making R&B powerhouse.

Ne-Yo stayed down,” he said. “Ne-Yo was in every strip club I went to, every time I went. Where you at? I’m coming. I don’t care where you at. I’m driving, I’m flying. Anywhere.”

As for others?

“Everybody else just kind of fell off and was just like, ‘Aight, well, make a new song and we’ll call ya.;”

Here’s Why You Need The Orwells’ Brain-Melting New Record

by 06/02/14

Chicago punks The Orwells’ sophomore record, Disgraceland, is out Tuesday and if you don’t already have the anticipation shakes, well, we’re here to help induce them.

There are a lot of up-and-coming garage and punk acts out there as of late — and always, because remember rock never died — but we’re seriously vibing on The Orwells this week. From frontman Mario Cuomo’s onstage, full-body fits to their Tales-From-The-Crypt-Come-Doo-Wop sound, every jam from this band is a must-listen.

But don’t take the preceding paltry collection of words for it, we’ve got 11 perfectly good reasons to nab their next disc below:

1). This Brand-New Music Video

Feeling cooped-up ‘n’ crazy this Monday? Well, fix your eyes on this new video from the Orwells, in which they do all manner of bad things around their hometown of Chicago. One order of vicarious-carnage — coming up.

2). This ‘Letterman’ Performance

It’s probably no coincidence that Letterman announced his retirement soon after the Orwells took his stage. There’s really no topping this performance.

3). This Claymation Version Of That ‘Letterman’ Performance

Unless, of course, you bust out a claymation version of the aforementioned career-topping gig.

4). This Assertion

According to frontman Mario Cuomo, the guys don’t just bring it out for late-night. They try to make every performance as fit-inducing as possible.

“I learned that a good show or whatever — a good show or song or album — is a lot more important to other people,” he told MTV News. “Even if you’re not feeling it one night or some ...

Hello Kitty ‘Avengers’ Assemble

by 06/02/14

Because dreams do come true, here’s the cast of “Marvel’s The Avengers” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” if they were covered in “Hello Kitty” paraphernalia!

As far as our copious Tumblr research has uncovered, the meme was popularized by user Science Oven (and warning, blog is extremely not safe for work), but then picked up by more users as it rolled along.

The meme seems to have started with Chris Evans as Captain America:

…Continued with The Falcon and Iron Man:

Arguably was perfected with Thor:

And even includes Hawkeye, sporting the sparkliest arrows you’ll ever see:

Finally, over the weekend, Agent Coulson was posted after a direct challenge:

For bonus points, users also made The Winter Kitty:

So there you go! Day made. What do you want to see them make next? And are you as confused as we are that there’s no Loki yet, because it’s Tumblr and the site is 95% Loki GIFs?

Check Out Devonte Hynes’ Bummer-tastic ‘Palo Alto’ Track

by 06/02/14

Get your dark ‘n’ twisted teenage angst on Monday (June 2) with a new track from James Franco’s “Palo Alto” soundtrack, courtesy of Devonté Hynes.

The soundtrack for the film — featuring Hynes’ first-ever score — is out today digitally and physically on August 5, with Hynes’ single “April’s Bathroom Bummer” streaming right now.

Replete with tense percussion and plaintive horns, the jam is reminiscent of Air’s soundtrack for “The Virgin Suicides,” evoking a kind of desperate-yet-mystical sadness. Hynes wrote and performed the entire score for the film, which is based on a series of linked stories by James Franco in which a teenage girl (Emma Roberts) begins an illicit affair with her soccer coach (Franco).

The soundtrack also includes tracks from Robert Schwartzman (Rooney), Coconut Records (Jason Schwartzman) and Nat & Alex Wolff, one half of which — Nat — also appears in the Gia Coppola-directed film.

Drake’s ’0-100/The Catch Up’: What We Learned

by 06/02/14

Drake wasn’t even on the official lineup for Hot 97′s Summer Jam on Sunday night, but he still found a way to be one of the most talked about artists of the day. Not only did he come out during Nicki Minaj’s set, but Drizzy also dropped a brand new track, “0-100/The Catch Up,” just minutes before.

One of the distinguishing traits of Drake’s music has always been his willingness to talk openly about his life and feelings. He has lyrical ambiguities just like any other rapper, sure; but he’s also often pointed in his approach. That again proved true on his latest six-minute release.

With that in mind, we took another listen to “0-100/The Catch Up,” and here’s what we learned.

If Drake Wasn’t Drake, Drake Would Diss Drake
At the opening of “The Catch Up,” following a beat switch from “0-100,” Drake admits he understands why there’s so much hate that comes his way. He brings the listener to a conversation with a woman named Lavish Lee, who challenges him to put himself in a competitor’s shoes: “She said they love me unconditional/ ‘Imagine how it feel to watch another n—a at the top/ You know that if it wasn’t you, you would be dissin’ you, dawg’/ Damn, okay, from that perspective/ I can see what you’re talkin’ ’bout.” Well, he’s got the humble brag down to a science.

There’s Probably A Password On Drizzy’s iPhone
In this digital age, it’s not the craziest thing for someone to have some risque photos ...
