Deryck Whibley: ‘If I Have One Drink…. I Will Die’

by 05/17/14

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley revealed he was hospitalized for a month due to alcoholism in a post he shared on his website on Friday, titled “Rock Bottom.”

“The reason I got so sick is from all the hard boozing I’ve been doing over the years,” he wrote. “It finally caught up to me.”

Whibley, formerly married to Avril Lavigne, wrote that he was admitted to the hospital after collapsing and being found unconscious by his fiance. “My liver and kidneys collapsed on me. Needless to say it scared me straight,” Whibley confessed. “I finally realized I can’t drink anymore. If I have one drink, the doc’s say I will die.”

It was an apparent wake-up call for Whibley, who also revealed the experience has inspired him to get back to music. Sum 41′s latest album, Screaming Bloody Murder, was released in 2011. “I already have a few song ideas for new songs. Soon it will be time to start making a new album and getting back to touring again.”

He also shared a bit of hard-learned wisdom with his fans: “I’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly.”

We hope the best for Deryck in his recovery.

Listen Up You Bedwetters: Diarrhea Planet Want You To Rock Harder

by 05/17/14

So… I’m not just saying this because I’m a huge garage rock/punk fan, but Diarrhea Planet just basically won Hangout Fest 2014 thus far. Three words: “Crowdsurfing on donuts.” Need I say more?

Friday, we issued an unofficial challenge to the boys from Nashville to best Black Lips, their Southern garage rock counterparts, when it came to delivering a hot and spicy, crazy show in Alabama.

And, dudes, did they deliver. Not that the Black Lips were not amazing and wonderful and brimming with joyful menace — it’s just hard to beat inflatable donuts.

So how did a band of guys with the most uncomfortable-to-utter name in music manage to throw a serious gauntlet down in front of the rest of the fest participants?

After busting out blazing singles like “Separations” and “Babyhead,” they tossed a whole mess of Homer Simpson-esque inflatable donuts (read: pink and gnawed-on) into the crowd and urged the assemblage: “Let’s see some people crowd-surfing on donuts.”

The flower-crowned, tattoo’d, sunburned masses obliged, and soon the sea of flesh abutting the stage was transformed into a literal sea, replete with reclining fans floating by on a wave composed of hands and trust.

Just take a look at these snaps and try not to be jealous:

Yes

Oh, and the dudes also encouraged the denizens of the crowd to download Tinder and find some quick love (“We gotta turn this sh– into the Olympic Village!” they shouted. “You have three minutes to crowd-surf your way into a ...

As I Lay Dying’s Tim Lambesis Sentenced To Six Years For Murder Plot

by 05/17/14

As I Lay Dying singer Tim Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison on Friday in Vista, California, for attempting to hire a hitman to murder his then estranged wife, Meggan Murphy. Lambesis was arrested last May. The “hitman” Lambesis approached for the plot to murder turned out to be an undercover police officer from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

During the sentencing hearing on Friday, Noisey reports that Lambesis addressed Murphy. “I do want to apologize, and I do feel a deep sense of remorse.” He added, “In the midst of all the heartache, you still find the strength to pray for me, and I’m thankful for that.”

“After our separation, I was only allowed to see the kids twice a week,” he told Alternative Press West Coast. “And it had to be somewhere Meggan could sit in the distance and literally watch me watch the kids.”

Lambesis also discussed preparing for prison. “I know what it’s like getting ready for a long tour. The problem is, this isn’t a long tour,” he said. “Career wise, and as a father, I don’t even want to depend on getting in a van or on a bus to make a living. I need to have a backup plan. It’s hard to prepare without knowing how long I’ll be inside.”

An upcoming not-for-profit documentary is also planned on Lambesis’ story, he told Associated Press.

by 05/16/14

Two of the most popular things over the last month have been “Game of Thrones” and the NBA Playoffs. Now, the two have been married in this hilarious parody.

Bleacher Report created an animated spoof that merges the two otherwise unrelated entities, and the result is fantastic. Basketball stars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook take a “GoT” approach on their quest for a championship.

Is This 1975 Vine The Least Beachy Moment Of Hangout Fest?

by 05/16/14

While most of the folks here at Hangout Fest 2014 are kitted out in bikinis and flower crowns, The 1975 didn’t even kick off their boots to feel the sand between their toes.

Check out this amazing Vine of the dudes playing leapfrog down here in Gulf Shores, Alabama — in jeans, long-sleeves, boots and TONS of black.

Action Bronson Announces Album Title, Confirms He Is Not A “Scientific Wizard Or Inspirational Poet”

by 05/16/14

Many think that Action Bronson is a talented, creative, humorous rapper. If the name of his upcoming album is any indication, he seems to agree.

Mr. Wonderful will be Bam Bam’s major label debut, released through Atlantic Records/Vice Records.

“The album is sounding incredible,” he told NME recently. “The whole album is a standout. I don’t care about individual songs, I’m trying to make a complete, classic project.”

For fans worried that the New York native may switch up his style because he’s releasing a project on a major, fear not.

“I just do my music uninfluenced by anybody else, or current trends, and it comes together at the end,” he said. “Nothing needs to have a f–king theme all the time. This is just rap. I’m not trying to make people think I’m some sort of scientific wizard or inspirational poet. F–k that! It’s just happy, funny, rugged, rough rap.”

After the announcement for the album, which should drop later in 2014, his fans seemed happy, too.

Cam’ron Wasn’t In The Studio With Just Blaze For ‘Dipsh–s,’ But He ‘Would Love To’ Work With Him Again

by 05/16/14

With reporting by Rob Markman

There’s no denying Cam’ron and Just Blaze have incredible chemistry. Together the charismatic rapper and multiplatinum producer have cooked up some unforgettable tracks and they did it once again, earlier this week, when they dropped “Dipsh–s.”

“It’s been a long time — maybe ten years,” Cam’ron told MTV News at the 5th annual FlashFWD Awards. “I just had a show with Just, actually, in D.C. about three weeks ago. So, me and Just are still in communication and we’re still good, but we haven’t actually been in a session together for a while.”

The track, which will be included on Cam and A-Trak’s upcoming Federal Reserve EP, was co-produced by A-Trak, Just Blaze, and Oliver; they just weren’t all in the studio at the same time.

“With the way technology works these days, A-Trak can come bring me a session, and I can end up changing the entire thing,” Just told MTV News on Friday (May 16).

And that’s kind of what happened. Just says A-Trak and Oliver brought him the beat — after Cam had rapped on it — and he ended up stripping it down, removing the sample, adding in live instrumentation, changing the drums and adding Dame Dash’s rant at the end.

It wasn’t a quick process, either.

“I was working on the master to that record up until eight hours before the video came out,” Just said, adding that it took him about a month to finish the record.

“As soon as I sent A-Trak the final, ...

Body Paint And Private Jets: Check Out Kid Ink And Tyga’s ‘Main Chick (Remix)’ Video

by 05/16/14

With reporting by James Lacsina

The perils of fame: Groupies want to be with you, and they don’t even know you for you. All they know is your name.

Ah, such is the life. And such is the struggle that Kid Ink and Tyga wrestle with in the “Main Chick (Remix)” video, which dropped on Friday (May 15).

“It’s me and Tyga having a private plane party,” Kid Ink told MTV News when we caught up with him in L.A. at Wango Tango over the weekend. “Some fan groupies sneak on the plane, which kind of happens sometimes on tour. We’re in the air, so after that, it’s like, nowhere to go.”

Chris Brown, who sings the hook on the song, is not in the visual, as he continues to serve time behind bars.

There are plenty of girls, drinks and paint dripping, though.

“Usually, I do a lot of performance videos, or strictly story videos,” the Los Angeles rapper said. “This one is kind of more about just the visual, and catching the eye when it’s on mute. I think I got a good artsy vibe for it.”

Ink is currently on his My Own Lane Tour.
